Default Ngor Mei Sect - Buddhist, Taoist? Why the ambivalence?

A number of prominent martial arts sects that appear in numerous works of wuxia fiction by various authors are associated with assorted religions. Shaolin is always Buddhist, as is the Shaolin Temple in the real world. Likewise, the Cheun Jen Sect and Mo Dong Sect are always Taoists, also in keeping with their real world counterparts.

When we get to the Ngor Mei Sect, however, there seems to be a point of confusion. Jin Yong depicts them as Buddhist, but Gu Long depicts them as Taoist. Was there no real world counterpart to the wuxia fiction Ngor Mei Sect upon which to draw from? Why this confusion?

I have a feeling they're mixed. They shave like Buddhist monks and have the fly dust like taoist priests.

The real Mount Ngor Mei does not have any martial arts sects in it.
It was formally a place where Taoist hermits hang out and have fun before the raise of Buddhism in China during Tang Dynasty.
Since then, many Buddhist Temples have been build on Mount Ngor Mei.
Basically, Mount Ngor Mei has both Taoist and Buddhist holy grounds on it.
It is currently more well known for it's Buddhists side, though.

Yes it does. The Emei Sect is real and still practices martial arts.

While there is an actual marital arts called Er-Mei Fists, I have yet to see actual historical records of Er-Mei Sect.
Please share with us where you get the information that Er-mei Sect exist in reality, thanks.

You can read all about the history of the Emei Sect here: http://baike.baidu.com/view/909790.htm.

There was also a real Emei disciple who made it to the finals on China's Got Talent.
