Yes I was quite surprised (but happy) when I saw Thai listed in you're poll, cas this site doesn't have that many people who listens to Thai music, obviously given the nature that this site is set up more for discussion on chinese, japanese and korean entertainment ect...

    Question

Oh gosh...this is a good poll. I vote .... Japanese....I've recently turned off Cantonese and mandarin music cause I find it a bit boring ... Japanese music is a new kind of music I've never heard before compared to chinese music. Forgive me, chinese music is good but I wanted to listen to other music from other countries...I've never knew Jap music is soo good...

Note: korean music good too...me, I lliked Cantonese, Mandarin, English then Korean then Japanese (lol I keep switching back & forth)

Prefers Korean songs as the singers sing with emotion and even though I dun understand the language,I can feel what emotions is the singer is trying to translate through .. .... ...The atmosphere set up by the song is

Thai songs sound funny to me and Indian Songs totally hilarious as it sort of tuning into the potrayal scene of Indians playing with trees, their face siding to left and then right side of the tree trunk ... ... :0 Kinda entertaining.(You would understand if you watch a few Indian shows...)

English songs is great as well, esp rock.Chinese songs okok.

I voted for English. I don't understand people who say that English songs are boring, that's beyond me. English is hands down the best IMO because it is diversified. You have many different genre to choose from, ie country, R&B, pop, rock, heavy metal, punk, emo, synthpop, europop, etc. Can you say the same with Asian music? I'm no specialist in Korean, Japanese and Thai music but it seems that when it comes to the modern era, almost everything is pop music. Very rarely do I hear something different from Asia. It's either pop or ancient music.

I'm not big on pop, I tend to go on the alternative side and the British are strong with alternative. When I was a teenager, I used to like synpop a lot with groups like Depeche Mode, The Pet Shop Boys, Erasure and New Order. I am at the moment rediscovering music from New Order and Joy Division that I didn't notice when I was younger. Anyway, not only do you get different genre but the sounds are different within each country like I generally prefer British alternative sound over American alternative. That's how diversified it is with English.

Now I have a question... What type of music do you like? Is it just me or do Asians only listen to popular music (pop, rap and R&B)?
My obsessions: Joy Division, New Order, Bones, The Office.

I only listen to chinese music and Thai, so can't really say about the others, I do have to agree with you that chinese music does seem to be more pop, Rnb, rap and ancient tunes, well of all the chinese songs that I have they seem to be the only genre.

But I do have to disagree with you when it comes to Thai music, they obviously have there fair share of those genre mentioned, but they also have lots of good rock bands and singers. Another big market for Thailand is their country music, usually enjoyed more by the folks who live in the provinces, but what is different about these songs is the lyrics, they don't just sing about love and heartbreak. They sing about prostitutes, drugs, ect quite heavy and sombre topics, but the lyrics are quite moving.

There is also another form of country music in thailand but that ones harder to explain. Anyone else wanna try?

To answer your question I tend to like rock music the best, well Thai ones anyway, though I have favourite songs from all different genre. I don't listen to English music these days, I only like 80's songs.

It's very understandable that you disagree with me because I know absolutely nothing about Thai music . It's good that there's different genre, it's less boring you know.

In general, I don't listen much to music anymore because I don't find it as good as before. I like everything from the '80s better, including British music. In those days, there was more experimentations, now everything is pretty much generic. I also was a fan of the '80s TVB theme songs, especially the songs from ancient series. Now that was good music. That was and still is the only Asian music I like.

Thats probably why I voted for Thai music over chinese, cas they have more variety, though I probably listen to both equally.

Yeah 80's english music just rock! When I'm at a nightclub and if any 80's music is played, people just go crazy, I don't know what it is, it seems to evoke something in people to scream and jump. eg. everytime the intro of "eye of the tiger" is played, my friends would all scream, grab each others hands and head for the dance floor while singing the song at the top of their voice and jumping up and down. Admittedly, now, I think i'm the first one to scream!

tru0001, I don't mind China Dolls, though my fave album of theirs is the first one, and "muay ni ka" is my favourite song of theirs. I like heaps of Thai singers, though I tend to like rock songs and artist more. eg.blackhead, sillyfool, loso ect...... I also like heaps of Carabao songs.

Of the newer artist, I like Film, not because he sings good, but because his cute, and Golf & Mike for the same reason. I'm also starting to like Lydia a lot, I like listening to her voice.
