But I don't know Beansprouts... I mean, I grew to love the storyline of the first anime, so watching the first episode, I felt it was really different to what I expected. Ed and Al... I got this feeling that they weren't the same as the ones I remembered.. Would you agree? And because it didn't follow the first series and instead the manga, I think people who haven't read the manga (like me) would have trouble understanding the storyline.
And is it just me or the graphics a little different to the first anime?
No to both, I have not been following new animes for a while now, the last anime I watched was Natsume Yujinchou. Care to intro both animes to me? I have a revived interest in anime watching since FMA and Suzumiya Haruhi both came out recently, I am a major fan of both
Ed and Al are the same as I remembered, I guess this is so probably because the manga Ed and Al are much more deeply imprinted in my mind than the first anime's Ed and Al. So can't say I feel the same way as you about the Elric brothers in the 2nd anime.
The remake is actually exactly what I expect since it was suppose to follow the manga storyline closely. Not sure why you don't understand the storyline since the story is starting from the begining of the anime with the exception of the original first episode. I guess the best way to enjoy and understand the show would be not to compare it, or expect it to be very similar to the first FMA anime. The first FMA veered off from the storyline in a major way from the middle onwards, it would be like a totally new story for anime-only fans in maybe another 10 episodes down the road.
So what do you think of the second anime so far? Enjoying it or think it is too different from the 1st? Oh yes, I think the graphics are a bit different too, needs some getting used to initially but I am already used to it now
By the way, one area that the first anime completely kick the second anime's butt would be the MUSIC. I want L'arc en Ciel and Porno Graffiti!
Remaking fma is a bit nuts. It's like all the remakes of JY stories on tvb series, but using the same actors for same roles. Who'd want to rewatch that?
The 2nd FMA anime is not really a remake of the first anime, the 2nd FMA is going to follow the anime much closer than the 1st. Hence the story will differ substantially as the first story only animate about 30 chapters of the manga. So no, it is not like all the remakes of the JY stories on TVB.
From what you said, then it's exactly like the tvb JY remakes. 70% same, ending different, different actors. I bet you if they did remakes with the same people playing the same parts, most people wouldn't bother watching it.
My point was people only watch the remakes because of the different actors. And since the anime looks and feels the same for at least the first half anyway, most people will get bored if they watched the first FMA already.
Actually, I don't understand why you are drawing comparison to the JY remakes on TVB and dismissing the 2nd FMA series. As mentioned, the first anime only loosely followed the manga in the first 20 episodes and it was all original story afterwards because there was not enough manga material to be animated. The purpose of the 2nd anime is not to remake the first anime, but to create an anime that follows the manga very closely. And if you had watch the first anime and the 2nd anime, you would have noticed that the story is different and characters feel different too. FMA 2 would not be 70% similar to the first anime, I doubt it will even be 20% similar.
I'm drawing the comparison because after watching the first 4 or so episodes, it's not much in look and feel of the characters. so i couldn't be bothered watching any more. same lame "don't call me chibi" jokes, the glasses guy showing everyone pictures of his daughter, the lietenant guy posing etc.etc.
if i have to wait until the 10th episode before things start to become totally different then what's the point of watching the first 9 episodes? I think you'd have to be fan of the manga would you watch it again.
I don't know how to put it, but I guess it's best to say that the love is gone? Sure I liked it when the first series came on because of all the mystery around it, the homonculus were failed human transmutations. But now you know all that. Sure there might be big plot differences later on but the big secret is out, I've seen all the lame jokes comic relief before and I don't really want to see it again.
I guess you could also make a comparison to Eric Bana's Hulk and Edward Norton's Hulk. Not a fan can't be bothered watching again with plot changes when the core of the story is the same - FMA being the bro's trying to get the philosopher's stone and get their bodies back, Hulk being a guy who turns into a green monster when he's angry.
^Well if you have made up your mind about the series, there's nothing much that will convince you otherwise. But just want to say that there's much more to the homonculus and philospher stone story than what the first anime presented.
All the new anime lineup is crap, it has been that way for awhile now. As to old anime i could recommend a ton.

I just finished reading "Her Majesty's Dog". I didn't think it would be that good but I must admit it was fantastic! It's not that popular though because it's not very old.
Synopsis:
Amane Kamori lives in a rural village, isolated from modern society. She is a powerful medium, able to control living creatures and things through the use of its real name. Her main companion is Hyoue, her guardian demon dog, who she powers up through kissing. Forbidden from revealing her identity, she and Hyoue are allowed to move to Tokyo. Together they work to help both the living and the dead deal with various troubles, while also adjusting to high school society. Amane must deal with jealousy from classmates, who don't understand why the handsome Hyoue is so devoted to her, as well as with her own family attempting to force her to come home. The family even attempts to break her bond with Hyoue. Meanwhile, Hyoue devotes himself to his master, while struggling to hide the forbidden feelings he has for her.

I know that this has been posted a while ago but I finally just recently got around to reading it. I've read up to volume 11 and so far I like it a lot. I would totally recommend this one for those who like mystery, historical, mythical, and romance type of stories. The aura of mystery makes it very interesting to read. The artwork is quite pretty, very detailed.
So far, from the manhwas I'v read, I've been finding them a lot more interesting than mangas. I'd really love to read more. If anyone has any other good ones to recommend, please do post them.
