Default (your) Opinions on 2 wuxia TV series

In the 80s/90s, 2 TV series have been produced about 2 of the most mysterious personas in Jin Yong wuxia: Central Divinity Wang Chongyang played by Ekin Cheng and Demonic Swordsman Dugu Qiubai played by Felix Wong. I would like to know your opinion of those 2 TV series.

At first this topic may seem to belong to the TV series forum. However I specifically want to know the opinions from the wuxia novel readers/fans, so I kindly request that the moderator keep this topic on the wuxia forum.

Was there one about Central Divinity Wang Chongyang??? Never seen it, but i seen the other two 'prequels' that tvb made XD. And about Demonic Swordsman Dugu Qiubai, i thought the story was quite good. The father of Lin Kang, later to be Dugu Qiubai, from an unorthodox sect was the strongest fighter of his time but was taken down by dirty trick?I can't remember.... anyway, the story was good in that it showed that just because certain sects were othordox on the outside, in fact they were all greedy and corrupt, tried to force Dugu Feng to pass his kung fu to them. Cool storyline, but Felix Wong's character got too strong too quickly i recon, its like they rushed to finish it. But it was cool how he says that because he is strong he is right, because he had strong martial arts, his words carried weight. Such a cool hero, killed people because he realised the clans were all corrupt/misguided and no amount of talking was gonna convince them that he was in fact the good guy.

I dont remeber this one. Could you tell more about the plot.

I rather enjoyed the DGCQ with Felix. I was quit young at the time and havent read anything of JY. Dont remember if the plot was plausible or not. But I consider it as one of the good wuxia series. They dont make like that anymore.
You do know that it is just fiction, dont you?

They deviated somewhat from the real plot. LCY dies at the end at the hands of the main villain. WCY was going to marry her and forget about QZ. LCY's kung fu turns her hair white. When she finds out WCY still loves her, she destroys her kung fu to get her black hair back. Thus she dies to the main villain because she couldn't fight back.

That's really all I remember. I remember liking it, but that was before I found out the real story. And back in those days, I loved EVERY wuxia series

All that's needed to say have been said, why say anything more? The man is drunk, why stay any longer?....

Central Divinity Wang Chongyang otherwise known as "Rage and Passion" starring Ekin Cheng, Gallen Lo, and Fiona Leung.

i can't remember much about this series except that the storyline between ekin and fiona was well developed so when fiona's character sacrificed her life for ekin, the audience understands why ekin (chongyang) chose to be celebate. it was a good storyline on it's own and one of the better "prequels" which tvb came up with.

VERY brief synopsis: ekin and gallen started off as friends who fell for the same girl. gallen won the girl's heart, but later, he became corrupt because of greed thus causing the friendship to fall apart. ekin on the other hand lets go and meets fiona, who was a girl raised in the wilderness by her mom...i honestly can't remember much about this part. supposedly, ekin's crazy guardian is fiona's long lost father. with time, ekin and fiona would meet in unusual circumstances and fell for each other. since fiona's swordskill requires her to remain neutral towards love...well, basically, she gives up her martial arts to be with ekin...hence making her more susceptible to gallen's fatal stroke.

not to digress too much, but despite gallen's evil acts, ekin forgave gallen time and time again until gallen killed fiona (who took a palm that was meant for ekin).

hmm...in terms of my opinion, i rather enjoyed the series as the acting was quite good and the martial arts wasn't so bad. plus, back in the days, ekin was quite ripped. the series was well paced with a somewhat convincing storyline which made sense compared to many tvb's useless series these days. and i remember liking the themesong a lot too...does anyone have it by any chance?

as for Demonic Swordsman Dugu Qiubai ... i saw it when i was very young. if i'm not mistaken, it stars felix wong and maggie siu. felix was quite the misunderstood outcast who was framed for a crime while maggie was a disciple of felix's main enemy who helped him. naturally, the two fall in love.

the series was memorable for the wrong reason...i can't help being girly. but maggie sacrificed her virginity to save felix. before she takes her last breath, she had encouraged him to move on...and what does he do? she barely died 1 week and he retires from wulin with his childhood crush who was a useless and bland character.

so much for a review from a girl who saw both series and can't remember much.

Patricia, You've got most of it right.

Well in Rage and Passion, Wang Chong Yang (Ekin Cheng) became friends with Gallen who happens to be the prince of the Jin Empire. So it seems unlikely that JY's WCY would befriend a Jin, since he spent most of his life fighting the Jin empire.

LCY and her mother learnt this martial arts from a few pages from this manual? I don't remember if it was 9yin or not, perhaps not. But it was a kung fu manual that WCY's parents died over.

WCY's father was a taoist priest who fell for this nice blind girl who he did cure and accidently had WCY because of a poison that causes yin and yang to mix, ya know? That's also how LCY was conceived too, her father was a taoist priest and her mother was the sister of the villian...she fell for WCY's father's senior martial art's brother but he didn't want to have anything to do with love or women. Eventually that smoke poison was the cause for WCY and LCY being conceived. HAH! TVB has such a imagination.

Wayne Lai also played Zhou Bo Tong here...but he's a taoist priest here already so if WCY became a taoist later, this ZBT would be WCY's senior MA brother, instead of his junior. So that's a error there.

Eh...well I enjoyed watching it. I watched all those prequels. Even the one about Xie Xun and another one about Z3F.
