Default Gu Long swordsmen double header tournament (not a game)

Gu Long has no shortage of supreme swordsmen in his novel. Sai Mun Chui Sheut and Yip Goo Sing from the LUK SIU FUNG stories and Tse Hiu Fung and Yin 13 from the THIRD MASTER'S YOUNG SWORD novel, however, seem to stand out from the lot.

So what if we did doubles tournaments like they do in tennis? What would be the results of these duels?

Round A: Sai Mun Chui Sheut and Yip Goo Sing vs. Tse Hiu Fung and Yin 13.

Round B: Sai Mun Chui Sheut and Tse Hiu Fung vs. Yip Goo Sing and Yin 13.

Round C: Sai Mun Chui Sheut and Yin 13 vs. Tse Hiu Fung and Yip Goo Sing.

I just pity who ever gets Yin 13 for a partner cos he is going to kill himself halfway to spare his opponents.

I wonder if it is even possible for this type of martial artist to work with someone else on a team.

Both of them fighting a single opponent/unified pair of opponents, or just the two of them fighting separate battles at the same time?

I know XMCX and YGC can fight "together" by saying "dude, you take that group, I'll finish this group", but what I'm wondering is whether they'd be receptive to fighting as a team with someone else, ie. using some two-man strategy. They seem to be very much individualistic loner types.

But I suppose for your question they could/would just divide up the opponents and fight separately.
havent come up with a good one yet..

One of the more memorable occassions was quite fun. Luk Siu Fung and Sai Mun Chui Sheut were matched up against two lama monks and two swordsmen. Sai Mun Chui Sheut, interested only in fighting other swordsmen, told Luk Siu Fung that Luk should take the lama monks and Sai Mun would take the two swordsmen.

Well, that was the plan, anyway. But the best laid plans of mice and men...

The two lamas showed up first. Leaving the lamas to Luk Siu Fung, Sai Mun Chui Sheut exposed one of the two swordsmen (who were both hiding in crates for the storage of dead bodies for cremation) by skewering his eye out and then making quick work of him. Luk Siu Fung, meanwhile, held off one of the lama monks and proposed a trade: Luk would take one of the swordsmen while Sai Mun would take the other lama. Sai Mun Chui Sheut was amenable to that and finished off the second lama quickly (even as Luk Siu Fung subdued the first lama). The last swordsman they didn't even need to fight. The poor guy died of fear after watching Sai Mun Chui Sheut and Luk Siu Fung take his three comrades apart like it was a game.

LOL, yeah, I remember that scene

But in essence then, your doubles matches would probably be two simultaneous one on one fights. So seeing who would win would be like seeing who would win various singles matches.

If any two of these sword masters were amenable to developing some kind of two-man formation however, that could give a big advantage. But I don't see them ever fitting into that style.

    Ye Gucheng/Ximen Chuixue v Yan Shisan/Xie Xiaofeng

What if Ye Gucheng stop fighting against Ximen Chuixue and they pair up? What if Yan Shisan and Xie Xiaofeng stop fighting and they pair up?

    Which team wins?

If TigerWong's ranking of Gu Long experts is to be believed, then there isn't even a comparison. The Lu Xiaofeng team would get squashed by the Third Master team.

With all due respect to Tiger and his research, Sai Mun Chui Sheut and Yip Goo Sing were no pushovers. This would be a duel for the ages.

Well, we know what Yan 13 and Xie Xiaofeng are capable of, thanks to Bliss' translation. What kind of proficiency in swordplay did Simon the Snow Blower or Master of the White Cloud City demonstrate? (p.s. Have they reached the peak of perfection like SWORD GOD Zhuo Bufan?!?!)

Not long after he first appeared, Sai Mun Chui Sheut was capable of cutting down a large tree with a single motion of his sword. The sword blade did not appear to touch the tree, as it was out of the scabbard for only an instant.

Not long after Yip Goo Sing first appeared, he used his "Teen Ngoi Fei Seen" to disable the arms of an opponent in a single move. The sword's blade did not appear to touch the opponent.

By the fifth LUK SIU FUNG story (SILVER HOOK CASINO), Sai Mun Chui Sheut no longer carried a sword. He didn't need one, as his sword was, in his own words, "everywhere."

Well, GL's world is full of people who can slash tree trunks yadda yadda. The newly appeared Fu Hongxue could also do what YGS did.

But Yan 13 appeared to practically do a cheap movie SFX by locking time and putting him and his opponent in an other-dimensional stasis.
