Well, its all opinion....personally, I think HR is kinda like Xiao Qi...Xiao Qi was also very mischieveious and smart....and later on the role got a little serious, so I think that if she can pull of Xiao Qi, then she can pull off HR.

Huang Rung is not supposed to be a gorgeous character anyways. IMO, Barbara Rung's portrayal of HR was by far the best ever and she was never pretty. I think Ariel can do fairly well with this role.

Hate to have to disagree with you about LOCH again, but I think Barbara Yung, Athena Chu, and Zhou Xun were/are more beautiful than Ariel. Plus, Barbara and Athena were both considered very beautiful for their time. And Zhou Xun isn't exactly the most beautiful actress, but she suits Huang Rong's look more than Lin Yichen...

I have to agree with 0-0-0 on this one. Looks dumb, not exactly mischievious, but very CUTE.

It's like opposite casting. Hu Ge looks too smart for Guo Jing, LYC doesn't look smart enough for Huang Rong.

As for her acting, I've only seen her in ISWAK (quite an addicting series), where she was good, but I don't know how she'll do with more serious roles.

I'll take it that you didn't watch Tian Wai Fei Xian since you said that you have only watched Ariel in ISWAK, because Hu Ge played a dumb and very set in his way character, Ariel played a smart and mischievous character.
I can't tell you how much I've enjoyed Hu Ge's "dumb" acting in TWFX, compared to his "smart" roles in SNYJJ and especially Chinese Paladin. Even though he looks somewhat smart, but he was WAYYYYYY better at playing dumb. Likewise for Ariel, I thought her character in ISWAK was extremely STUPID, and she was extremely annoying as well, but after I watched TWFX, i had a "revelation" and went back to rewatch ISWAK, and I appreciated her even more. She can be both smart and stupid, and please don't judge her by her looks. I think Ariel is ugly despite being a supporter, but acting skills are way more important, the same reason why people bash LYF for XLN, but I still love her dub. I'll say that Idy Chan is the ugliest XLN, since XLNs are most likely supposed to be extremely beautiful, but people still like her. I think Ariel can do a good job.

I don't think her as cute or pretty. To me I think she would fit better in a more serious type of role. I couldn't stand to watch her in ISWAK because that was too silly for someone like her to play. Although at times I found her character in Love Contract annoying, I preferred it because her character was more serious and less silly. For such awkward roles I prefer someone like Rainie Yang or Cyndi Wang whom can make it silly but not overact that it becomes too much.

Rainie Yang and Cyndi Wang won't overact, that's because they CAN'T EVEN ACT. I almost bore myself to death watching them in DBY and TGDJY.

I thought lollipops are used to describe those extremely skinny ones with a big head? Most people don't even think Ariel is SKINNY, they find her chubby. But i think she might have lost weight during filming due to pressure from the director to fit in the role of HR, but you can't blame her for that if she's skinnier due to the constraints of the script.

Ariel's actually pretty slight and skinny, you just don't notice coz she's so chubby and her head is big. Perfect description

I don't know. but she looks pretty normal for an actress. Definitely not as bad as those HK actresses where you can see their bones jutting out or the sinews of their calves which are really disgusting.

I will think that Rainie looks more like a lollipop because of her narrow shoulders and thinner and longer neck, even though their legs appear to be of the same size.

Sure,she's cute Yea .. Look at how she "flies" around in TWFX.So elegant like a babe Marvellous man.I think directors who wish to make a movie for "Nezha" should all just go q up for her. High potential hard to miss her.

Judging by today's beauty standards, obviously Barbara's not "beautiful." But I think she looks the part - cute, impish, and smart. I also think that in her adaptation of LOCH, I couldn't name an actress who I thought was prettier than her, or, just a mon avis, when I think of other actresses of her time, like Idy Chan.

That's why Ariel's situation is completely different. We all know that there are plenty of actresses that look better than Ariel (sorry, but I don't know too many who'd call Ariel the most beautiful woman), they've been actresses that have already played the role of HR...there's a lot of pressure on her.

She looks pretty healthy in that pic - maybe around 48 kg at the least? It's nice to see actresses that aren't anorexic. However, her roundish facial shape doesn't give off the sense of sharpness, which translates to cleverness IMO. I think Ariel's look is going to be her greatest challenge in playing HR, and I hope she can overcome it, since it sounds like she's working real hard.
