    Jilly Jie, yup, there are two series. Paper Rose is the upcoming one that Ariel is cutting her hair for, and Rui Jia is set for the male lead right now. (I’ll be sad if they take it away from him before he gets to prove himself, but oh man, Mike and Ariel would be soo amazing *sniffle* It doesn’t look likely though, after that last article :-\ unless the producers can convince Ariel’s manager that they’ll be very cautious about media coverage and protecting Mike and Ariel.

    Eh, looks like Jerry is currently being considered as the main guy lead, Ren, in Skip Beat. There are really two male leads, but Ren is more prominent. (The manga isn’t finished yet). Ariel would be playing Kyoko, a 16-year-old girl (who doesn’t act like a typical 16 year old) out for revenge against her former crush, Sho (maybe Joe, but unlikely?), and Jerry would be playing Ren, who’s 20/very mature, etc. In Skip Beat, Kyoko’s and Ren’s roles are acting within acting (the characters are actors). Sho is a singer. Kyoko goes into the e-world to get revenge on Sho, who used her to make it big in the music world, and then she meets Ren and eventually develops feelings for him. It’s one of the best mangas ever, and I’m looking forward to Ariel taking part in it (if she decides to), but I am *really* worried about the two male leads (especially Ren) and the other female lead. They have to be really good.

    Paper Rose is about a girl who is in love with a guy who is trying to follow his dream to become a rock star. Then, the guy leaves (actually, I thought he dies), and the girl is devastated. She decides to follow through with the guy’s dream to become a rock star and cuts off her hair and sets off, even though she has no music industry knowledge. So, Ariel would have short hair in both series… but eh, I’m a little nervous about Skip Beat, because Kyoko actually *bleaches* her hair. Ehehe, I want to see Ariel’s haircut, but not bleached! *blanches*

    Thanks for the info, swim mei. Hmm, the two series sound very similar in that Ariel will cut her hair and enter entertainment industry because of a guy. The good thing is that the character isn't like the typical dumb role she'd been offered and known for. Hopefully, she can unleash her acting talent like she did in Love Contract =)

    Ohhh, I'm dreading her new bleached short hair. I hope the hairstylist won't do any drastic change to her. Maybe something like light brown would be okay, but not platinum blonde! As for the main lead for Skip Beat, I still can't picture Jerry as Ren, especially not after watching him in "The Hospital." I just don't think he looks convincing enough to play a 20-year-old character, although he won't have a problem with the mature part. Oh well, the filming won't start till early next year; we'll see how it goes. For the other main character, Sho, I guess he's a bad boy. He's like the total opposite of Ren. I hope the casting directors can pick some really good actors to bring out these characters.

    Thanks for the pictures. How come Joe looks short? I mean he still looks towering next to Ariel, but he looks like about the same height as Jiro in the picture (Joe is 188cm/6"2" and Jiro is 181cm/5'11"). Maybe it's the angle.

    Jilly Jie, yeah, thank goodness! I think Ariel wants to get away from “dumb” roles for now; she’s already had two series as Xiang Qin. I’m really hoping Paper Rose will be a serious, deep role. (I assume it is, since Ariel’s been wanting to go deeper in her character roles).

    I don’t know if she’ll actually bleach her hair, because the character in Skip Beat has dark hair, then bleaches it, then dyes it black again. They might just go with light brown or red or something… but anyway, Skip Beat shouldn’t be until later. For Paper Rose, she’s just cutting her hair. I really hope the producers/directors pick good candidates for the other characters.

    Hrm, in the above pics, I think it’s the angle, and Jiro is standing closer, too. Not sure.

    She looks beautiful in those pictures. The cute pink dress, the hair, the make-up, the necklace... I thought she just looks so adorable! At first I didn't realize that she's holding a dress in the second picture. I thought it was part of the dress she's wearing... a weird dress style, that is... with black and white in the middle and pink on the side, lol. Then I realized it must the gift she received from her Korean fans, along with the shoes haha. So the three of them are promoting TKA in Korea and Japan now? On a side note, I just read an article saying that Skip Beat cast confirmation will have to wait till October.

    Jilly Jie, I know! She looks lovely in the pics - I just love the pale pink dress and black bow and her perky ponytail (her hairstylist is really great - I love the guy!) Oh, and haha, guess what? Ariel actually brought Mama Lin along with her on this trip! She showed up in a couple of the pics! Heh, Ariel and her mom are really close.

    Seriously, Skip Beat cast won't be confirmed until October? Does that mean it starts *filming* in October, or they won't even confirm the cast until then?

    Oh, speaking of news, I just saw an article that said that Ariel has found a new house for her family finally, and she's planning on buying furniture and accessories for it now. Also, I think it says Jiro and Joe whistled when they saw her in her dress and boots outfit, lol.

    Swim mei, here's the thing about Skip Beat cast. When I read the article about Jerry, it mentioned that Skip Beat filming will be delayed till Feb 09, which gives Jerry hope to join the cast since he's committed to another series "Starlit" at the moment. Then I read another article on Joe, which mentioned that his casting won't be confirmed until October. It seems like the production team really wants the three of them together for the series. But other than Ariel, the male lead roles are up for grabs.

    Oh, she tucked her hair under? I thought she cut her hair =P My brother said her face looks rounder with short hair, haha. And that's one happy and lucky fan there, lol. I read the article. Jiro's and Joe's teasing remark to Ariel is so funny, hehe.

    Ariel Lin or Angela Zhang, Paper Rose waiting for Jerry Yan

    April 30, 2008
    TW Next Magazine, vol. 362

    It was reported that although the main lead was announced, the production team of Paper Rose is waiting for Yan Cheng Xu to accept the role. Ariel Lin also showed her desire in working with Yan Cheng Xu by saying that she had missed the opportunity to work with Yan Cheng Xu for 2 times already. Actually, there 3 male characters in Paper Rose, including main and supporting roles. As Ariel's agency is one of the investers, it tries to promote Ariel's little brothers and sisters by including them in the cast. It even announced one of Ariel's little brother as male main lead. Actually it is unknown whether he will play the main lead or supporting role. In order to secure the overseas profits, the production team is still waiting for Yan Cheng Xu to accept the role. However, if Yan Cheng Xu will accept the role, his schedule won't be open until next year. Then it is Ariel's turn that she may not be available at that time. Then it is possible that she will be replaced by Angela Zhang as the female main lead.

    Aiya, this article is a real curve ball. Isn't Jerry supposed to be in Skip Beat? How come it now becomes Paper Rose? Another article also said that Skip Beat filming will start next Feb, making room for Jerry's schedule. But this article said Ariel can't wait til next year, which implies filming will start this year. Which one is right?? Really confuse the heck out of me! I think it makes more sense if Ariel starts filming Paper Rose with Rui Jia first, then continue with Skip Beat possibly with Jerry later. In any case, Ariel shouldn't be replaced by Angela just because Jerry can't make it. This is her drama, isn't it?. If Jerry is too busy, then find someone else. But Ariel's brother? Lol.

    Hi Jilly Jie and XWingSuki! Sorry it’s been awhile since I’ve been back!

    Jilly Jie
    , thanks for the clarification for Skip Beat. Ugh, both Skip Beat and Paper Rose seem to be one big mess right now =P All of these weird rumors floating around… grr.

    Heh, yeah, roundish faces always seem to look rounder with shorter hair.

    I like the TVB news clip of the Korea TKA promo =) Ariel speaks Korean throughout, which the Korean fans really appreciated. You could tell she was a little nervous, but it’s good for her to get practice with her Korean *in* Korea, instead of just teaching other Mandarin speakers on variety shows.

    I saw that article, and it’s driving me nuts. I don’t want to believe it, b/c it’s Next Mag, but there’s probably some truth to it. I read that Jerry currently has *ten* series/movies he’s considering/being considered for – Paper Rose and Skip Beat being two of them, I guess. How long would the Paper Rose people wait to hear back from him, though? I’d think they’d want him to decide soon, so production isn’t delayed. The problem is that Jerry’s not free now, but someone from Paper Rose really wants him for overseas audience pull. So, if Jerry agrees to do Paper Rose, production would be pushed back to next year, right when Skip Beat is going to film. So then, Ariel would be forced to choose between Paper Rose or Skip Beat. And I think she already committed to Skip Beat, so she’d have to drop Paper Rose then. At least, that’s what I think is happening. *rolls eyes* I don’t get it at all. I hope it’s just fake gossip. Oh, and when the article talks about Ariel’s “little brother,” it’s talking about her “shi-di,” Rui Jia (management company little brother, not literal little brother). I used to get confused with that too

    Wow, 10 offered projects? I know Jerry is famous, but I didn't know he is still that famous. This whole mess is truly unbelievable. I hope Ariel can still do these two series. Worst come to worst, at least she already has one series on hand, and I thought Skip Beat story is interesting.

    Oh, little brother is "shi di"? LOL. I thought they are talking about her real brother. Now that would be a really bad rumor, haha.

    LOL, I would NOT want to watch a drama of Ariel in a romantic pair with her little brother! Haha, but Ariel (and her real lil brother) would never agree to do it in the first place either

    New article that makes me kinda angry :P

    [2008.05.02] Being shoved aside by Angela Zhang? Ariel Lin angrily pulls out from starring in Paper Rose

    There has been an uproar of cast controversies for CTV new idol drama, Paper Rose. Ariel Lin could possibly be removed from the cast list because of the filming schedules and the cast arrangement, and could be replaced by Angela Zhang. It is known that Ariel Lin felt annoyed about this, and bears the thought of retreating from the cast.

    It is rumoured that the female lead has to be changed to suit Jerry Yan's schedules.

    The drama originally appointed Ariel Lin, Bryant Chang and Chen Chu He to take the leading roles, however, there have been a lot of controversies breaking out after that. SETTV was not happy with the fact that Fated To Love You's very own male lead, Chen Chu He, was chosen to work with its opponent CTV. Later, there were rumours speculating that the crew disliked Bryant Chang, and wanted Jerry Yan as the male lead. They could even agree to postpone the filming date until next year, just to suit Jerry Yan's schedules, and to change the female lead from Ariel Lin to Angela Zhang.

    Ariel Lin felt bitter about this speculation, her manager Zhou Mei Yu felt assaulted on behalf of her as well. According to inside sources, Ariel Lin has already discussed this matter with her manager, and they planned to retreat from this drama's cast list, as one of the problem solutions.

    If the drama will not be filmed, it will affect the coaching fees.

    If Ariel Lin really decided not to participate in Paper Rose, it will pose difficulty to CTV. The drama was scheduled to be filmed starting on June, if it is not done according to the schedule, CTV will not be able to apply for coaching fees in the future three years. One of CTV's directors, Chen Zhi Han, said that Ariel Lin has always been chosen as the female lead, and that they hope to be able to start filming on June.

    Regarding to the matter, the drama producer said that cooperation has to depend on fate; this drama was specially designed to suit Ariel Lin. How about the final decision? Zhou Mei Yu refused to clarify about it in the mean time.

    ---------

    My thoughts: Obviously, the reporter made the title purposely inflammatory to stir up trouble (as if there weren't enough gossip :P). Just wanted to point out that the situation is neither Angela nor Ariel's fault (nor Jerry's nor Rui Jia's, nor River's fault), so they shouldn't be blamed. I don't know if the fault lies with CTV or the director or someone else, but there's something wrong when none of the 3 leads get the lead roles they were promised. I guess we'll see how everything pans out (since no decisions are made yet), but if I were Ariel, Rui Jia and River, and I knew they were seriously considering replacing me and my colleagues, I'd think hard about jumping ship. Why wait around just to be replaced? Then again, ideally, I'd like to see the casting worked out, so filming can begin in June. I'd really love to see Ariel, Rui Jia and River in this drama if possible, but I just hope that Ariel can work with a good cast and crew/director/producer who appreciates (or *learns* to appreciate) her... and that goes for CTV as well... grr!

    Hey guys,
    Hehe thnx for the news and everything, but the reason why I haven't replied for a long time is because I'm not really interested in Ariel's new projects (no offense) . But my response to the article:
    YI CHEN! Come join the mainland drama industry, where you'll have great, deep roles, won't be pressured for schedules, and will get to work with a *certain person* !!!!
    I dunno, I personally like Mainland dramas best. Usually because the storylines are more realistic

    Swim mei, yeah, the title is quite inflammatory. It makes it sound like Ariel acts like a diva. It is nobody's fault, but if Jerry can make a decision soon, all these bad speculations can be preventable. Btw, why do Angela and Ariel always sub each other? Angela was supposed to take the lead role in Tokyo Juliet, but because she's busy fliming Bump Off Lover, the role was given to Ariel. Both of them were also considered for the lead role in Hot Shot before they turned it down. And now they cross each other's path again in Paper Rose.

    Red, sorry to hear that you're not interested in Ariel's new projects. I've only watched a few Mainland dramas, but I like Taiwanese series better hehe.

    hmm, i would have to say that i like tdramas better than mainland, too. lol.

    they want jerry yan because ariel lin and skip beat's mangaka have both expressed strong prefrences toward him as Ren, although some have aruged that he would actually make a better Sho. Rumor has it that at first it was suggested that Mike He be cast as Ren and Jerry Yan as Sho, because of the success of "Love Contract". However, Jerry is now not only being considered for the role of Ren, but it seems that they're bent on having him and ONLY him as Ren, since they completely changed the production schedule to suit his, and have announced him as the role already.

    Ren isn't necessarily "more prominent", since there are several chapters in the manga which focus on Sho, and in which Ren is completely absent. In fact, the entire plot focuses on Kyoko's desire to get revenge on Sho, who keeps accidentally running into her. I've only read the manga, though, not the screen adaptation. I'm really curious to know who they're going to cast as Sho, since he will also be a very interesting role.

    As to hair care worries, fret not: Kyoko's hair is black at the begining, and red later, but it's never blonde XP that would look so strange. For a large portion of the manga (when Kyoko is acting the part of "Mio"), she has black hair. Personally I'm curious to see what Ariel would look like with red hair...

    Actually, a lot of people have been voicing complaints about Ariel being cast as Kyoko, because she's so closely tied to the "air head" role. Personally, i think she'll make a really great Kyoko, both acting and looks wise. Kyoko is the girl-next-door who steals your heart, not some absurdly breath-taking beauty. Speaking of which, they have yet to announce who will be playing the role of Kanae Kotonami, Kyoko's friend. The rumors I've heard have been troubling, since a cutesy-girl in the role of Kanae would absolutely ruin it.

    For anyone who hasn't read the manga, there is some good info at wikipedia here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Skip_Beat

    Or if you want to read it, scanlations are here: http://www.onemanga.com/Skip_Beat/1/

    Thanks for the clarification, soratorashi. They are so adamant on having Jerry as Ren. I just don't get it. I know they are trying to bank his popularity overseas, but I thought the main focus here is Kyoko. Of course Ren and Sho are also important characters, but if Kyoko is miscasted, this whole series will be completely ruined. There's no doubt in my mind that Ariel can bring out the depth of the character.

    As for the original rumor of Mike being casted as Ren and Jerry as Sho, I have no complaints about that. In fact, I wish that's not just a rumor, haha. I really want to see Mike and Ariel together again after Love Contract. And oh, I'd like to see red haired Ariel (thank God it's not blonde! lol).

    What kind of troubling rumors have you heard on the actress who'll be playing Kanae?

    Hey red, no problem, lol! Actually, I’m really surprised that there are all of these rumors about Ariel doing *series*, because she had expressed a wish to work on movies and deeper roles. Maybe she should move to China -_- I’m kidding, she couldn’t leave Mama Lin behind! (although she did just buy a house for her family, supposedly…) Heh, but if moving China would get her away from all of these rumors, I’m all for it! Heh, I think she’d actually move to France if she thought of moving… she’s been itching to take that 2-year break to study acting outside of Taiwan.

    Jilly Jie, yeah, there have been a *lot* of rumor articles coming out about Ariel’s roles in dramas, and not one of the articles has a direct quote from any of the actors/actresses mentioned in the articles. I’m so annoyed. I think Ariel and Angela always sub each other, because there aren’t that many leading TW actresses who can really act (*cough* sorry, but true). There’s Barbie, but I can’t see her as Sui. And Ella usually has a full schedule with S.H.E. and endorsements. Did I miss anyone?

    Soratorashi
    , oh really? Skip Beat’s mangaka wants Jerry for Ren? Did Ariel really want Jerry for *Ren*, or did she just want to work with him on *a* project? (Well, I guess if he took on a role, though, it would have to be the *lead* role). I actually see Jerry more as Sho, I think, but eh, I dunno. I’d like Jerry to work with Ariel, but maybe not as much for Skip Beat. I can’t exactly see him as either of the male leads. I would have liked to see Mike work with Ariel again, if the rumor about him being considered for SB really was true in the first place. He could probably do either Ren or Sho.

    For the hair, Ariel already had red highlights, so she’s part way there =D I’ve heard that some people in the Skip Beat thread have been complaining about Ariel as Kyoko, but seriously, they’re probably thinking Xiang Qin. Ariel is the most likely TW actress I can think of who can pull off Kyoko’s complex character.

    Like Jilly Jie said, what rumors have you heard about Kanae? *scared expression* A cutesy girl *cannot* be Kanae.

    Yeah, I find the rumors to be very strange… both Paper Rose and Skip Beat were said to be trying to desperately get Jerry, to the point of rearranging the schedule for him, buut, for both dramas, Ariel’s character would be the central/main character. Particularly for Paper Rose – the role itself was designed specifically for her. I just think there’s something fishy with the rumors. Anyway, I heard that Winnie wants to direct Skip Beat, and he wrote that he was planning to meet up with Ariel and Joe to discuss the project with them. As bad as this sounds, wo bu yao! It’s too soon after TKA, and I want Joe and Ariel to act in something with significantly different roles compared to ISWAK/TKA. If Joe’s Ren, it’s too similar for my tastes; if Joe’s Sho, that would be more different, although it’s still so soon for yet another collaboration.

    Here’s my ideal Skip Beat cast:
    Kyoko: Ariel
    Ren: Vic Zhou/Zai Zai – he can totally pull off the complexity that is Ren (and he and Ariel already have good chemistry, which will be way better when they start working together onscreen)
    Sho: Jiro Wang – I think Jiro can pull off Sho’s complex nature – the famous singer who’s a spoiled, arrogant jerk in the beginning, who very slowly warms up/grows up and realizes that he likes Kyoko (only only… he might not end up with Ariel AGAIN… *heartbroken already*; plus, he has a busy schedule – he may not have time)
    OR
    Show – haha, it fits! I don’t think this needs an explanation if you’ve seen Show act, know a little bit about him
    Kanae: Megan Lai? (ahah, I think she’d be perfect… I can totally see her as Kanae – plus, I’ve always wanted to see Ariel and Megan acting together)

    Any other and/or different ideas?

    hhmmmmm... megan lai definitely LOOKS like kanae, but kanae is supposed to be kinda badass, you know? and m.l. strikes me as being so... happy. Rainie Yang is who i had heard. that would be just..... NO. Oh dear, I'm almost out of time!

    My ideal cast:

    Kyoko: Ariel. Period.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Ren:Jerry Yan
    Ren, unlike Sho, projects a more approachable cool. that's why i think jerry yan would be better.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Sho: Mike He

    Mike He is definitely cool, but he's the kind of distant, admired cool that Sho is. Also, even though Sho is spoiled, 99% of the time he;s putting out this "Mr. Cool Guy" suave attitude.

    Kanae: Jia Jing Wen? Li Qian Rong? honestly i have no idea. pics of kanae below. if anyone strikes you, share.

    Oh, so the mystery woman is Rainie Yang? She's definitely too cutesy for Kanae.
    Wah, we've got to play "pick your ideal cast" game? Here's mine:

    KYOKO: Ariel. Duh! I guess we all agree on this.

    REN: Mike He. Okay, he's not exactly the best actor around, but if he can pull off Ah Ken in Love Contract, he can play Ren, too.

    SHO: Danson Tang. He's a very unlikely candidate, but he should do well as Sho.
    (Swim mei, I'm so wanting to have Jiro or Show as Sho haha, but I think Danson fits more as Sho )

    KANAE: How about Ivy Fan? She plays Li Xiang in Devil Beside You.

    soratorashi, Rainie as Kanae? Umm, no. I’d like to see Rainie and Ariel as best friends in a MV or something, but not in Skip Beat =P

    Actually, looking at those pics, I think Jerry could be a good Ren. He does fit that cool, approachable look. Hehe, I think I want Vic so much, because I'm being heavily influenced by the tea CF pics and BTS... they look so cute! I really do want Jerry and Ariel to work together on something soon, though... I've been waiting since I heard that they wanted to work with each other.

    Who was the blonde-haired Japanese guy next to Sho’s pic? Actually, I thought of Mike for Sho, too… if only Ariel’s manager would agree. He’d be perfect, I think.

    For Kanae, I still say Megan Lai. She’s an incredible actress, and I know she looks happy in real life, but have you seen her in some of her roles, like in MARS and Delicious Relationship? She’s really good at portraying the b*tchy character, or the jealous love rival. Heh, she can definitely act badass… I can totally see her tossing a kid across the room…

    Jilly Jie, I thought of Danson for Sho, too… hehe, actually, I like that idea. He’s been really good at pulling off all sorts of different roles, and it would be fun to see him and Ariel bickering. I don’t know, though, I’m having a hard time imagining Danson pulling off the totally supercilious jerk that Sho is.
