Are you talking about her actual voice or the voice they used to dub her in the series?

Heh, glad you and sora like my new icon. I was actually looking for Ren icon, but I couldn't find a good one, so I just use Kyoko haha.

Sora, I really hope the drama does Skip Beat justice, too. No more news on it recently, aside from the accusation from the the TV station that Fated To Love You was trying to steal the chicken costume idea from Skip Beat. *rolls eyes* I really do NOT like some of the marketing strategies of the Skip Beat producers, but hopefully the director and cast will do a great job with it, whoever they turn out to be.
Puh-leaz! The chicken costume idea is nothing new. What a cheap maketing ploy! The filming hasn't even started yet, and they'd already created such a negative impression. I can only imagine FTYL fans throwing rotten tomatoes at the producers for such a groundless accusation.

Oh, thanks for the Skip Beat fanvids!

I don't like it either... but that's not her real voice. Blame it on the dubber =P

I know it isn't her real voice. I like how Ariel has a lower and mature voice compared to alot of those cutesy , ditzy, younger actresses coming out these days. I can't believe they dubbed a really annoying voice to her..

Sora, thanks for starting the Skip Beat thread! Did you see my post in the SB thread about Joe and Da S’s new drama, though? It may put an axe to plans for Joe as Sho… :-\

    XwingSuki, yup, that’s Figaro!

Sugar, I agree. I wanted to cry when I first heard the voice they gave Ariel for LOCH. I like her real voice so much more. I’ll learn to deal with it, though, because I really want to see LOCH.

    Hi tstars!

    Jilly Jie, me sneaky? Never….
Haha, Kyoko’s fun, too. You couldn’t find a Ren icon? Lol, there are some Ren icons that tiffiany made in the Skip Beat thread in AF, but they’re of Vic as Ren

I know, very cheap marketing :P I wonder if GTV will still do Skip Beat now. (I hope so). Seems like it’s not on the GTV calendar of preferred dramas yet, though (whereas some other 2008/2009 dramas are).

Btw, kudos on her for being fluent in korean. Impressive

Sugar, hehe, it helps that Ariel majored in Korean in college What really impresses me about Ariel is that she finished college on time while in the midst of filming and her hectic e-world schedule. (Plus, during her senior year, she was flying back and forth between China and Taiwan for filming and school).

    New article:
[2008.05.30] Lin Yi-chen taking up cooking, wine tasting; decorating her new house into a "dream doll's house"

After looking for a new house for half a year, Lin Yi-chen finally spent more than NT$10 million (based on the Chinese figure, this could be anywhere between NT$10 million and NT$19 million) of her her hard-earned money to purchase her ideal home. She's been busy lately visiting furniture stores and browsing through interior decoration magazines as part of her plan to decorate and turn her new home into a "dream doll's house" with a field/garden.

Lin Yi-chen and her family love small pets. Her first priority when she was looking for a new house was it should be near Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall so her mom can take the dog out for walks. Her new house is really near SYS Memorial.

With her simple nature, instead of buying a luxurious home, Lin Yi-chen chose a two-decade old apartment measuring 40 pings (about 132 square meters). As such she has to have the whole place renovated, which is estimated to cost millions.

Lin Yi-chen recently registered for cooking and wine tasting classes.
She said: "When my new home is done, I'll start cooking."
Having taken class for so long, what is her specialty?
    She laughingly said: "Making salad."
    Preparing salads sounds too easy.
She stressed: "The salad I make is very rich (includes a lot of stuffs); the color (combination) is beautiful. [My] teacher and classmates all said it was delicious."

As for wine tasting, Lin Yi-chen said: "My mom had insomnia, so the doctor suggested that she take 100cc of red wine -- instead of sleeping pills -- before going to bed."

Since Lin Yi-chen started taking up wine tasting, her mom -- who never touched a drink before -- now would even drink bottoms up.

Lin Yi-chen said: "If the wine is really good, my mom would even take the glass out of my hand and drink it. I laugh and say, 'You're drinking again.'"

I actually knew that , but I was still impressed that she was still fluent to the point that she can dub shows and what not. Impress that she pulled thru college here

swim mei, thanks for the Marie Claire video. Her hair is so long... is she wearing extensions or is it her real hair? Ah, but she's gonna cut it short soon Um, what is she doing with the giant magnifying glass? It looks like she's holding a pan in a glance. Kinda weird there, hehe..

Sugar, yeah, I was impressed with Ariel's dubbing in Jeff Chang's MV, too. (I'm guessing that's what you're talking about? ) She did it so well and so emotionally. When I first heard it, I thought it was some Korean actress dubbing. I always thought she'd be a great dubber for an animated film, because she's able to carry emotion well in her voice and not just her expressions.

    Jilly Jie
, you're welcome! Ehm, I'm not sure if she's wearing extensions. I thought it was her real hair, because she had long hair like that in the Jasmine Tea ads with Vic, but come to think of it, her hair was just a little longer than shoulder length in January. Do you think it could grow that much by now? Hahaha, I don't get the giant magnifying glass either. Now that you mention it, it does look like a pan (a mini-wok? lol)

Hi L4love, yeah, Ariel's great at playing a bunch of different roles. I've liked her in all of her series - although Xiao Min in Secret Garden is/was a bit of a struggle for me. (Her character's so *mean* sometimes!) I can't wait for LOCH either! I wonder how much longer we'll have to wait for another Ariel drama...*sigh*.

Long wait for the Paper Rose, Lin Yi-chen rejects 12 idol dramas, NT$4 million gone

    Source: Sina
    Translation by btzigane@asianfanatics.net

Please copy entire article and credits including this message if reposting. Thank you.

After waiting for six long months, filming of “Paper Rose,” starring Lin Yi-chen and her “shi-di” Zhang Rui-jia, has been postponed. During this period, Ariel had rejected 12 idol drama series and two movie offers, losing NT$4 million in [potential] income.

Ariel’s film projects haven’t proceeded smoothly in the past two years. When she was filming “LOCH,” male lead Hu Ge was involved in a car accident and shooting had to be suspended. When shooting of LOCH resumed, it coincided with the shooting of TKA, resulting in the two film crews fighting for Ariel’s time.

The fate of Paper Rose, which was scheduled to start shooting in June, has been very 舛 (??I swear I've never seen this character, but that's probably only me). Planning was riddled with problems: first they couldn’t decide on a male lead; after all the difficulties and settling on Zhang Rui-jia, the problem now is the set and the script are not yet done, so filming has been delayed to next year.

    Long six-month break, taking classes

Lin Yi-chen gets paid NT$3 million for each idol drama and NT$2 million for each film. Given that she turned down 12 idol series and two movies during this waiting period, Lin Yi-chen is estimated to have lost NT$40 million in [potential] income. Asked about losing NT$40 million because she was waiting for Paper Rose, Ariel said open-mindedly: “It gave me more time to spend with my family, and to attend baking and wine tasting classes. It’s not a waste of time, so I don’t consider it a loss.”

Film producers waiting for her nod
While the start of shooting for her new series has been halted, Lin Yi-chen remains very much in demand for commercials. Aside from continuing her contract with a sanitary pad maker, she is the image model for a Chinese food item, sports wear and other products.

According to Lin Yi-chen’s agent, TKA is very popular right now in China. Aside from advertisers, they’ve [Ariel/agent] also been approached by a Hong Kong filmmaker. The terms of the offer are very attractive, they’re just waiting for Ariel’s nod.

Oh no, filming of Paper Rose has been postponed till next year. I hope it won't clash with Skip Beat filming >< And wow, she lost that much potential income? Poor Ariel. Good thing she always thinks positive instead of being bitter about it. Hopefully she can do one of those series/movies offered during this waiting period so that her time is not completely wasted.

Thanks for the pics, swim mei. Ariel reminds me of Yoo Ha Na (the Korea actress in My Lucky Star) in that yellow dress hehe. What kind of show is she attending anyway?

_Mist_, I love that pic, too. It looks like she's lost the baby fat in her face

Hi Jilly Jie! Yeah, I'm worried about filming clashing, too :-\ We all know 6 months for filming is fast for Winnie, so I'm worried that Ariel might not be able to do Paper Rose, which I really *really* want her to do (and really really want her to do Skip Beat, too - I'm so greedy :P)

There was a recent news article [2008.06.30] that cmiley@asianfanatics.net translated... here's the last sentence that talks about Skip Beat (rest wasn't related):
As for Ariel, her manager Xiao Yu says, Ariel likes to pick dramas, even though currently there's no dramas, but in October she's be accepting a role "Extravagant Challenge", the role is about a girl that is really good at acting.

So, I guess Ariel will be doing Skip Beat starting in October, but the male leads still haven't confirmed yet.

kandie, thanks for the TWFX pic! Ariel's so cute as Xiao Qi

i_fotted, Ariel's voice is dubbed, because since she's from Taiwanese, she doesn't have the same "crisp, emphasized" Mandarin that the Mainlanders have. So, to give her the same crisp accent as the Mainland actors, they dubbed her voice (she doesn't really have a Taiwanese accent, but her way of speaking is a bit less emphasized than native Mainland speakers).

    Some recent scans and pics:
