Quite impressed with Miss Lin. And, I see some familar posters here (swimyfishyswim06, who seems to head the fan squad, and Sugar).

I think her fine performance enabled me to actually watch a Taiwanese idol drama again (ISWAK, TKA). So fine in fact that I've read some comments that seem to stereotype her to the 'dumb, ditzy' character. Which I find ridiculous considering she is very good in serious takes and is so mature off screen. And, I do actually like her singing voice...I thought I'd never see an actress except Liu Tao who has a true balance of singing and acting talent.

Good on her for her 'learning passions', I very much understanding as I'm in the same boat . Although, I think it's a strange reason she gave for learning wine tasting (despite being probably part of the 'learning package'). Wine instead of sleeping pills...uhh, the reliability of wine to ease insomnia is low. Have heard it works for some people, but I'm sure there are other more genuinely therapeutic methods...I think she needs to get a second opinion for her mother.

I have just been on a 'defending rampage'...happen to like Ariel Lin at the moment so I think I've been defending her shows e.g. ISWAK, Love Contract.

I'm usually quite sceptical about acting leads' off-screen 'couple rumours'. However, I think from the promos and interviews, this 'Arjoe' thing may be an exception. From Joe's manner and responses, he seems to be quite keen for a relationship. Ariel, though typically reserved, I thought was quite interesting to see her side-step a direct 'are you dating' question with explanatory ramble when she could've just answered with a simple no if it was the case. And that 'I-have-a-crush-on-someone-I-met-on-the-Indonesion-promo' is such a red herring IMO. Oh dear, drowning in media gossip I am.

Her new series with Joe is 'Love or Bread' (Chinese 'Wo De Wan Yi Mian Bao' aka 'My Billion Dollar Bread').

There is a synopsis of the series, but I'll only translate it upon request.

I am happy to say, this time, it's Joe who will be chasing after Ariel! Woohoo! There was news that said the female lead was first given to Ariel, then it was Da S. Da S turned the role down at the last possible minute (after the promo posters had been done) - which I imagine really aggravated producers - then the role was given to Ariel (presumable because the filming of her other series had been delayed). Was this meant to be or what?

I believe Ariel is someone who likes different experiences, so there must be a very good reason for Ariel to want to work with Joe for the 3rd time.

Ariel is sort of obligated to be with Joe for all the promotions for TKA...they are the leads. Other than that, both have only attended each other's birthday and book promotion. Then one time shopping together. Ariel has been busy with LOCH08'...so technically, she has been with Hu Ge.

Junkrat, they haven't been "everywhere" together. It may seem that way because they are so popular so there are so many MVs, news, mention of them.

If you're bored, go and re-watch Ariel's previous series where every male lead was different.

I can't wait for 'Skip Beat'. I'm apprehensive at Ariel cutting her beautiful hair, but I'm looking forward to all the singing she would have to do for the part.

It's a shame she is so shy, she would make an excellent singer. I understand too her hesitation at producing an album (I honestly think she is only coming out with one to shut everyone up). A potentially popular album would entail another wave of interviews, performances, and very likely concerts. Heaven's, that would be a horror for the stage weary Ariel.

That's so cute and contrary in its own way...a shy professional.

(Of course, with all of the schedule changes, I don't know if she'll still be able to do it). Here's how her tentative schedule is:

Love or Bread with Joe - starts filming end of August (BUT, the director, Dir Lin, is likely going to China to help with another series, which will push back filming start to end of September) - Dir Lin is known for being speedy with filming (Romantic Princess was filmed in 45 days!)

Skip Beat/Extravagant Challenge w/ ? - starts filming in October (as far as I've heard, the main male leads aren't set yet - Jerry is likely to be Ren, though he hasn't confirmed, and Joe seems sort of hesitant about being Sho, but he may pick the role after all... who knows) - per Winnie, the director, filming is expected to take at least 9-10 months

Paper Rose w/ Zhang Rui Jia - sometime next year - as soon as Skip Beat finishes?

I'm not thrilled about Love or Bread, I'll be honest. I never liked the storyline to begin with, and another pairing with Joe so soon is... very soon *blinks*. Ariel must have her reasons, though. It has been a whole 8 months since she's filmed a series or movie, and I'm sure she wants to get back to it. Plus, I bet she's excited for the challenge of seeing how her and Joe can beat their ISWAK/TKA chemistry as completely different characters. The female lead in Love or Bread is an average village girl, but she's distinguished by her hard work ethic and love for money (it reminds me a little of Tian Yu in Prince Turned to Frog).

It's kinda cool to see how the timing worked out, though, because there were a lot of factors involved. Ariel first turned down Love or Bread, along with a lot of other dramas, because she wanted to do "Paper Rose," which would have started filming in June, but the script and set weren't ready. So, Ariel was free. Then, Barbie dropped out due to schedule conflict, so Ariel hopped right in. I dunno what will happen with Love or Bread delay and Skip Beat right there, too. I hope Ariel won't have to sacrifice one of Love or Bread, Skip Beat or Paper Rose - but if she does drop one, I'd rather she keep the ones with the more interesting storyline, more challenging acting.

Poor Ariel's so shy of singing in front of people. Aiyoh, I'm hoping that with Paper Rose, she'll get some formal voice lessons and be able to sing in front of crowds for the actual drama and get some of her stage jitters out that way. I'm excited about her potential album coming out, but I hope she never leaves acting for an extended period of time to sing, because I still think acting is her true forte.

Ah! I thought Ariel would be cutting her hair for Skip Beat because Kyoko cuts her hair too. But I am mistaken, because Kyoko is an actress rather than a singer.

Can't get a link to Paper Rose manga though. Is it a manga? If so, can someone tell me the Japanese name so I can do a search.

So, Winnie (as in Winnie who did ISWAK & TKA) is directing Skip Beat? Woohoo! Love his attention to manga detail.

If Ariel had to drop any, I'd wouldn't mind Love or Bread falling out (despite my wish to see the Arjoe pair in different character type). I too like seeing Ariel handle more meaningful and challenging roles. Compared to Paper Rose and Skip Beat, I don't think Love or Bread sounds all that challenging or original in terms of character dynamics.

Voice lessons would be excellent for Ariel - think she needs to work on the higher notes (lower ones sound pretty good to me). And if she can master abdominal breathing while singing, she can get more of an 'umph' (strength of projection) to her voice as well. But, if Ariel comes out with an album, I'd be happy to buy it - a first ever for me, never have bought music from idol singer before.

I thought those silly antics that they did around Ariel while she was singing Er Zhou Qu in the ISWAK New Year's Special was somewhat cruel when they knew she was stage shy.

She needs to imagine everyone is naked . That would surely cure her stage jitters...or make it so bad that she falls down in a dead faint .

Have you seen the 'Nan Shan Love' interview with Ariel swimfishyswim06? What do you think of it? It's convinced me that there is no Arjoe.

I'd say yes. From her most recent online message, seems she wants to 'find love' in 2008. I can't imagine one would still want to do that if one is married.

It would be hard to work out (or maybe not for dedicated, investigative fans) if she is married or not. Joe Cheng did comment on an interview once that Ariel, as private as she is, won't probably make public anything until she is on the way of having a child. Ariel not only confirmed, but seemed to hint she would not be wanting a public wedding (not like Liu Tao).

I find it strange sometimes, the amount of things I find out and know about a favoured actor/actress of mine. Actors/actresses are people like anyone of us...just that their professions are so much more public than others. I'd like to think that I don't give a damn about who they are, because I respect what they do because of their skill in performance. I suppose it is the need to understand what makes them 'tick' so that they can portray such moving emotions onscreen that makes me want to know more about them beyond the silverscreen. Because honestly, I don't consider myself a fan or anyone...well maybe Einstein (but he's dead, so I'll never get to meet him ).

The difference is that a fan - if they met Ariel Lin in person - I imagine would at least like an autograph. There maybe even a little anxiety (at varying levels depending on the individual) at meeting a 'famous' person. I think I would find such a meeting interesting, maybe a little amusing...but not anything enough to warrant expected reactions in meeting a star. Depends what sort of people shake the foundations of your own security as an individual I suppose.

I would welcome meeting Ariel in person though, if 'fatum' decides as such. She is a current favourite of mine because she has such an interesting personality.

I actually think she got together with Joe at some point... not sure if they're together right now but she seems to have a really soft spot for Joe (and Joe seems head over heels in love with her)... check out their thread at Asian Fanatics forum for the in-depth analysis as to why everyone thinks they're together or got together at one point.

I find her to be very down-to-earth, family-oriented and filial, which makes me like her even more.

Once she was asked in an interview about how she got into the e-biz and she said from winning some kind of local "cover girl" contest. She entered b/c she wanted to use the prize money to buy her younger brother a computer.

I couldn't have agreed more with you! Ariel was a "show-stealer" in this adaptation of "The Condor Heores" - I've seen many versions of the story, but I personally think Ariel Lin came closest to my imagination of how HR is supposed to act, look, and 'IS'

This is my first Ariel Lin series too, so I didn't start the series with a biased opinion of hers, but rather, the extreme opposite! I've heard of many great things about her, looks and acting alike - thanks and no thanks to one of my closest friends (she'll kill me if she sees this)! Based on looks, I've always thought she was very AVERAGE (which is she, minus the smile, everytime she smiles it makes me want to smile with her - very charming, I must admit)! And acting? I don't watch much Taiwanese dramas, and the ones I've seen prior to this series, none of them had Ariel in it. Point trying to convey: I've always thought my friend was a bit over the top about Ariel, so I came in wondering who in the world she is!

Needless to say, she won me over instantly. She was the HR that I've always imagined! Not just that, but her chemistry with the casts were just stellar. From Hu Ge to Anthony - which I thought they had great chemistry as the 'hard on the outside, soft on the inside' father and spoilt daughter - she made all the relationships work!


I do look forward to more of Ariel's performances!




I've just recently saw "It Started with a Kiss" - didn't really love it, but it was very entertaining, for laughs and as a time-killer. But I did like "They Kissed Again" a lot, it was so deep and moving, not to mention, different! Its not the usual guy-chases-girl Taiwanese dramas, but its the complete opposite! The depiction of AL/JC as a young married couple is just so real that everytime they cried, I cried, they laugh, I laugh!

Ariel was really amazing in both, she portrayed XQ so well! I'm watching Toyko Juliet right now, and again, Ariel is very good! I'm not completely drawn to the storyline, but Ariel is so flexible with her emotions, whether it be comedy or drama, she does seem to bring it out the best!


I'll be looking for more production from her, for sure!
