Well, Ah Ching from JY's short story (can't remember the name) shot chi through her bamboo stick.

real life, yes! but of course no special effects is seen-able. if u know who is the late master wang xiang zhai, then u know.

DYQ did this. He can transmit internal energy through his stick, and fire them at a distance, although not that far.

Supposedly Yang Guo has that ability. So we can safely assume that Du Gu Qiu Bai can shoot as far as the Death Star.

There are several examples of GL characters who can emit sword chi like this, especially in the earlier stories, but even in "7 Weapons: Separation Hook" I seem to recall Mr. Blue blasting a tree with a beam of blue energy coming from his sword.
