Default Missed Opportunities in Jin Yong wuxia

We usually talk about characters who experienced great opportunities/

Did any character miss any great opportunity that made you sigh and/or weep and/or say "Darn it, you idiot, why didn't you....?"

I'm talking about FORSEEABLE opportunities. Not like "if Ren Woxing would have been born 500 years for Dugu Qiubai to meet" kind of opportunities!

One example is that Lord Long and Lord Mu of Gallant Island could not interpret the secret of Ode to Gallantry art. If they could have concentrated on the right parts of the art, they could possibly have discovered the secret.

I always felt that its a pity that foo' XZ did not tell Wuyazi that the girl depicted in his precious scroll was just outside (WYY).

Or better still, while MRF was fire-deviating, have WYY mess up the board and save him instead of XZ. Then we'll have WYY receiving the inner power from her Grandfather (if he doesnt get a heart attack first). Since she already knows all those martial arts techniques in theory, she could conceivably use the inner power quite well.

    1. Guo Jing didn't kill Gengis Khan and Ouyang Feng in Mongolia at the end of LOCH.
    2. Guo Fu didn't chop down the remaining arm of Yang Guo.
    3. Guo family didn't retreat to Peach Blossom Island after Xiang Yang fell.
    4. Zhou Zhiruo didn't kill Zhao Min.
    5. Zhang Wuji didn't come to the throne so he couldn't marry the other 3 girls and Zhao Min couldn't become the Queen.
    6. Linghu Chong didn't "go futher" when he was stay by Yue Lingshan's side in the cave atop the Cliff of Repentance overnight.
    7. Dongfang Bubai didn't kill Ren Woxing when Ren was being taken prison in Gu Mount Plum Manor.

Tian Bo guang did not manage to catch yi lin because of LHC's interference
XLN did not become pregnant after her rape
Zhang Wuji did not just say screw this and take all those girls
GJ did not succeed in chopping off GF's hand
GF did not chop off YJ's head instead of his hand
Sword god did not showcase his pinnacle of perfection skills in a positive light in the wulin

There should have been a third and final Mt. Hua Sword Tournament at the end of ROCH.

Also, what about people not interpreting He Zudao correctly when he said "It [The 9 Yang Shen Gong manual] is in the gorilla."

ROCH also should have ended with a scene where after the hypothetical Third Mt. Hua Sword Tournament, Gwok Jing gives Yeung Gor the complete 9 Yum Jen Ging, and Yeung Gor gives Gwok Jing the Heavy Iron Sword.

He Zudao said that? I believe it was Xiao Xiang Zi's partner in crime.

Everyone wants a GJ vs YG at end of ROCH. Round 1, fight!

Not so fast. There are three other Greats present. It's every man for himself, just like the original Mt. Hua Sword Tournament.

The old buggers might say, let the new generation take over and pass the popcorn!

I think Yideng, HYS and esp ZBT will be very interested to see DP vs SP.

He did say it to the monks. The message was given to He Zudao by Xiao Xiang Zi's partner in crime. He repented at the end for his sins and decided to tell He Zudao where the manual was. Unforuntaely, He Zudao didn't hear Wun Hak Sai (cantonese pronounciation) too clearly and thought he said the manual was in oil instead of the manual was in a gorilla.

Yeah, another BIG what if. What if the guy survived long enough to tell He Zhudao exactly where to find the manual.

Xia Xueyi. Why he didn't just go with the idea and just massacre the whole "Oh" (sp?) family and rid of those lousy damn-to-hell old bastards. Xia Xueyi I think is one of those main characters that did not lived til the end. You know how everyone says the main character will not die until the end because they are the main character. I think Xia Xueyi is one who was a main character type that died early.

Not just the two Lords, but everyone who was on the island and did not want to get off. But I guess the two Lords are the biggest "sigh" because they were the best fighters among the group, before Shi Po Tian came.

BTW, in the novel, Shi Po Tian beat them both at the same time? Was it all out, or more like sparring? Or were the Lords an hour away of dying and Shi Po Tian JUST SO HAPPENS to come in time and learn it in full.

Sounds more like a very entertaining twist. That would have been something. WWY might think WZY is a very old version of DY or something after watching WYZ reaction.

Genghis Khan died of old age I think. Jin Yong does not want to make up some supposed deaths to real characters. But then again, didn't Yang Guo kill some Mongolian dude. Maybe I am contradicting myself.

Looks like Guo Jing would rather die than retreat. Should he not go the "as long as we are alive, there is hope to reform the Song dynasty" route? If you want to revenge, even 10 years would be too late. I guess they think it would take more than 10 years, they would be dead by then. So they would be unable to do anything. Hence, they hid the possessions of the Yue Fei War Manual and 9 Yin manual hoping someone one day can use them and try to resurrect the Song dynasty.

Unless Huang Rong truly knew that this was it, if Xiang Yang fell, it is gone forever.

That would be what I have wanted, Zhang Wuji with the 4 girls. But I guess Jin Yong had to follow history and make the Chu (sp?) guy the Ming Emperor.

I think DFBB figures (like all villains do) living is even worse than dying.

    Nods vigorously.

I agree on Zhang Wuji, that is probably my most biggest disappointment.

Had Sword God been showcased the right way, we would have the great Sword God v Sword Demon debate, move over GJ v YG.

You mean involving the real Greats right? To finally end all this GJ v YG debate? I do believe they did have one, but it involved pathetic losers. In ROCH83, HYS saw some dead guy saying he was here for Mt Hua Tournament. HYS "I can't believe on Mt Hua Tourney, there are useless people like this." Haha, you are classic HYS.

You think when Cheung 3 Fung master came and the Greats heard about the 9 Yang manual, they would want to try out with the master to see what this 9 Yang is all about. Chow Ba Thung I am sure would ask Guo Jing to spar with the monk to see 9 Yin v 9 Yang.

The 2 Lords went all out, while Shi Potian might not have needed to go all out yet. Therefore his maximum potential is unknown./
