Yeah, I've been trying to get Legendary Siblings (the one with Jimmy Lin, right?) but Yesasia won't sell/ send outside the US.

To foreva, yeah, I didn't think much of Prince> Frog, but I've seen abit of It started with a kiss and it's alright!

TVB had its detective mystery series and thriller sci-fi ones (a good example is Mystery Files with Maggie Cheung Ho Yee and Gallen Lo as stars), I think the good TVB series are found in the 1990s for that genre. Of course they're some law and crime solving, perhaps you're not looking at the right places for series from TVB.

Taiwan is known for its melodramatic/romance dramas. I've yet to see any thing different.

I think Taiwanese series go to extremes---either extremely melodramatic Qiong-Yao type ill-fated love stories or really juvenille, overly light-hearted, teeney-bopper love stories like Meteor Garden and MVP Valentine. And too many remakes of Japanese comics as well.

I hear ya!!
However, there are a few teeny-bopper (idol worship) series that i quite like (i.e. being long past teeny bopping myself...) such as MG1 and MARS which are based on Japanese manga and are quite compelling! But I agree that alot of other series of this gendre are quite juvenile and warrant alot of eye rolling and >>>> from us 'past it' brigade!!

Plus, I'm don't mind melodrama as long as its relatively believable. But some of these series, everytime something is resolved, up pops the next obstacle and I'm like 'Now what???!!' (cue eye rolling- my eyes have done a lot of exercise since watchin TW Drama!!) and to top it off the give you a sad ending.

If I had to recommend 1 BEST TW drama.. i would say go for MARS. Avoid at all cost Marmalade Boy & Peach Girl (it's hard to believe these came AFTER MG1! as (apologies to fans) the acting from the leads are terrible.)

i'm currently watching The Prince who turns into a frog. does anyone know the soundtracks for it? i really like all songs they have in there. i like the series too. my family also liked it (which suprised me a lot, because they don't like taiwanese dramas that much). oh well...i hope i will able to get the songs.

i think taiwanese dramas are just to plain and the acting is not so great.. but i watch them because sometimes.. it's just wen ur bored you want sum laughs..

so fari think that the good ones would have to be:

legendary siblings 2
iswak
silence
MG1 (but japanese one was much better)
smiling pasta (if you want something dat's cute.. acting isn't so great)
the kid from heaven (very sad.. and soo cute)
crouchign tiger hidden dragon (old costume and asian version.. not the american one.. this one is with peter ho and shui ling and huang yi)

From the Taiwan series I've watched, I highly recommend:

-IT STARTED WITH A KISS (this show got me to appreciate modern Taiwan dramas again)
-Huan Zhu Ge Ge 1 (Princess Pearl 1) The second one sucked

Series that are OK:
-Devil Beside You (it's draggy and the whole time you're just like, "what's wrong with them?" I've been watching it but in the middle, I stopped and watched the ending of ISWAK again cuz it was so good)
-Legendary Sibs 1 & 2 (they're good but the endings all sucked.. Jimmy wasn't the best at acting in the first one but he got better towards the end and his later series are all VERY GOOD)
-Meteor Garden 1 (I refuse to watch #2 cuz MG 1 was already mediocre for me)

Anyway, if you watch ISWAK, you won't regret it!

both mars and prince who turns into a frog are good. first i thought mars will be more about motorcycle racing, but it turned out to be more romance and a lot of action. but the storyline was really good, i would like to watch the whole thing again. as for frog prince, i think it was funny and a little of romance at the same time. overall, both are worth watching.
