    Smile Gilbert Lam (林韋辰)

in my opinion, he is the most talented actor, he can play any roles and still brings out the best performance. i am very fond of him, and want to search more information about him, but seems most of the websites i have found are in chinese which i do not understand. i have been watching series that has him playing in, and also know that there are many fans just like me who really love Gilbert lam. He is so handsome and so cool . My most favorite character that he played is yelut haonan in the heroine of the yangs. This character left a huge impression....hope to see more of him in ancient series

I agree with you. I love his acting and his look too! TVB doesn't know how to treasure his talent to give him lead roles. Now he's back with ATV i hope they will give him more lead roles. Some kind of hero and cool roles like Ye Lut Hao Nan in Heroines of the Yangs! I'd like him to be paired up with Annie Man and Chrystal Tin!

Actually, in my opinion, his best acting was from The Good Old Days also with Amy Chan Sau Man.

OMG, OMG, I love love this actor!!!! I'm currently watching "Mok Gwai Ying" again (aka, Heroine of the Yangs) and Gilbert is such an amazing actor in there!!! He shines in any role given to him, be it an antongonist or a hero. He's such a handsome guy, IMO, and a credible actor, waaay better than most.

I read online that he's retired from acting now (NOOOOOOOOOO!! ) and that he's concentrating on his dessert business.

What a waste of such a talented actor. ATV and TVB didn't know how to treasure him, that's for sure. But I'll always love him, no matter what!

BTW, I found this touching MV about Annie and Gilbert's series together. Sooo sweet!!! *melts*

I didn't even realize there is a new Gilbert Lam thread! I wonder what happened to the old one. It had pages and pages of long, thoughtful posts from many fans. Too bad that thread disappeared. Oh, just seeing this new thread brings back such good memories of my infatuation with Gilbert Lam. Anyway, I came across this MV just now. It features several couples in ancient series, including Gilbert Lam and Annie Man in Heroine of the Yangs and Jackie Liu and Joey Meng in the Legend of the Yang Family and the Great General. Check it out.

Man!I want to watch The Chamelon Year 1997. It would've been nice to see Gilbert and Annie in a modern series together. Too bad, I missed out on it.

pemberly: I think that old Gilbert Lam thread was deleted due to inactivity! I sure miss that thread. But if you happen to miraculously find it, please let me know.

Suet Sueng: I've read reviews of that modern series with Gilbert and Annie somewhere a long time ago.

I think they did not end up together. I'm not sure I like that. Therefore, I am almost afraid to watch it, for fear that I will just be ticked off.

Mel, if you would like spoilers for Year of Chameleon 1997, read on:

Gilbert and Annie were initially a couple. Their relationship was even an intimate one. Annie really loved Gilbert and believed they would soon get married. Alas, Gilbert was only fond of Annie and never truly loved her. He met and fell in love with the female villain of the series (played by actress Wong Mei). So he broke up with Annie and devastated her. Needless to say, it was not pretty.

The series was 61 episodes and had its fair share of boring moments. However, with a strong cast and good storyline, I remember enjoying it quite a bit. The romance between Annie and Gilbert was rather weak and lacked the chemistry they had in HOTY. Perhaps it is because the characters were not very endearing at all.

Eric Wan and Joey Meng were really adorable in the series. I kept watching because of them.

YAY! This thread is active. There are actually Gilbert fans out there!!!! I'm so happy. Most people that I know don't even know who Gilbert is. They always watch TVB stuff so they are so used to seeing him in "evil roles" or as minor characters. Gilbert had the best roles when he was at ATV. I loved him in "Heroine of the Yangs" and I'm currently watching "Cross Border Daddy" now just for him. He's aged very gracefully in there and still looks so handsome. I love his gentle eyes and smile. It's a pretty good series. I still prefer Gilbert in ancient roles but in modern roles, he looks handsome too. He's one of the few actors apart from Bae Young June who looks tremendously handsome with glasses.

Thanks, Melanie, for the MV. It's so sweet! Wish Gilbert and Annie can be in another series.

Re: Chamelon Years '97, it is worth watching. Gilbert's character was quite complex. Annie wasn't the main character in it though. In fact, I think Gilbert was more of a main focus than Annie. But the few scenes that they did have together was quite sweet. It's worth watching, IMO.

Have you watched ATV's Justice Pao series? He was in at least two cases, one as the main character and another a supporting character.

I love Heroine of the Yangs 1 and 2. A couple years ago, I just HAD to buy the series and keep it in my collection. Rewatching it is great and I just keep falling in love with his character and his coupling with Annie.

tweety: Thanks for that spoiler for Year of Chameleon 1997. Maybe one day, I'll watch that series, since I am also fond of Eric Wan and Joey Meng. If I am not mistaken, this series was pre-Heroine of the Yang, since this series came out in 1997 and Heroine of the Yang was a 1998 production, I think. Now that you told me Gilbert and Annie didn't have much chemistry in Year of Chameleon, I'm wary of watching it. I don't want that series to ruin my good memories of Yelut Honam and Paifong.

AyaAsou: Hey, AyaAsou. Well, you're quite a Gilbert Lam fan, aren't you? Yes, there are a few of his fans here. Some time back, I was so crazy about him that I lived and breathed Gilbert Lam. That fervor has faded a bit now, but he will always be one of my favorite dashing, romantic villains. I loved Gilbert and Annie so much after watching Heroine of the Yangs that I have started writing a story with them as main characters. I have long ago stopped asking people to read my fan fiction, as I have given up on trying to acquire readers. However, since you sound like an enthusiastic fellow Gilbert Lam fan, you may find my story enjoyable to read. Here is the link.

Please give my story a try if you have time and wish to read where my imagination takes Gilbert and Annie. If you don't have time to read or are not interested, that's fine and I will not be offended. However, if you do read, please post a comment as it is always wonderful to hear from readers. Thanks.

Finally, there is a Heroine of the Yang thread here, just in case you haven't discovered it yet. Check it out.

Suet Seung: I have not watched ATV's Justice Pao series. Is it good? Which episodes does Gilbert Lam appear in? Just out of curiosity, is Annie Man in that series, too?

I found it great and enjoyable. Here's how I'd rate the Justice Pao adaptations.

    In order of preference:

    1. Bao Qing Tian (1992)
    2. ATV's Justice Pao (1995)
    3. TVB's Justice Pao (1995)
    4. Mainland Justice Pao (2007)

I don't remember which episode, but I have posted screencaps in the Justice Pao thread in the ATV forum. I don't know if it's still there.

Annie Man is in the series, but the set of dvd version that I have did not have the case that she was in so I didn't get to watch it.

I've seen TVB's Justice Pao, and I quite enjoyed it. Since you rate ATV's Justice Pao above TVB's, I will definitely give it a try, especially since Gilbert and Annie are in it! I've always thought Gilbert Lam was one of the few men who look so look dashingly heroic in wuxia period costumes.

Here I found the posts in the ATV Justice Pao where I made screencaps:

The spoiler tag only works on the the thread, I don't think its accessible through the individual post.

Ah! I forgot to make screencaps of the other case Gilbert was in and post it up. I'll have to do that the next time I rewatch the series. I posted long ago, I don't know if you ever read it when I first posted it.

Wow, Joey Meng is in it, too? Then I MUST watch this! I love Annie, Joey, Gilbert! Thanks for the screencaps, SS.

    Default heroine of the yangs

I have lately been a fan of this serials and like most fans here mostly for the gilbert annie mann relationship.

I have tried to purchase the 2 series but was unable to find them available. Does anybody have the link? A few websites that show that they can be purchased also show that the videos are out of stock.

    Thks,
