    Default Tudors

I can't believe I haven't started a thread on the Tudors earlier. It's one of my fav series, not really bc of the show, but because i'm a huge brit history buff and this is one of my favorite periods of history. oh, and jonathan rhys meyers is incredibly handsome. *swoons*

so this is the final season, and i'm very surprised that his next wife is going to be julia from nip/tuck. he's going from that jailbait Katherine Howard to HER? so weird.

i'm also very excited because the next show, after tudors ends, is the BORGIAS!!!! that's like the 2nd family in history I'm most interested in. it's like showtime made these shows especially for me.

lemme end this post with a smexy picture of jonathan rhys meyers.

The Borgias as in Pope Alexander and his son Cesare Borgia? If so that is indeed an awesome time period with alot of cool folks around.

I'm curious how they would portray Lucrezia - a sick evil woman or a victim of family politics.

I hope they make Cesare badass and fitting of Machiavelli's inspiration. Maybe throw in some Assassin's Creed in there. =]
What about the third son Jofre.

From what accounts do you know of the Borgia family by?
I knew it mainly from Mario Puzo's interpretation of them. Lucrezia being Cesare's innocent lover, Jofre being somewhat of a 2 faced schemer and Cesare as a brooding hero.

I didn't manage to watch The Tudors at all. Is it that good? There are some other Western historical series I want to watch too.

the borgias? asked GX, she knows im also super interested in them....=p they are like the renaissance mafia, who isnt interested with a bit of exciting history?

actually, surprisingly the borgias are pretty 'popular' in japan, there were books published in regards to cesare borgia in particular. fiction wise, there are various ways to portray this family though; and evil popes are a good source of gossip. (despite being a catholic, i do love to dig out the 'not-so-pleasant' scandals of the catholic church).

i only became interested in them recently, after reading alexander dumas' account. before, i just thought of them as less successful medici. now, i think they're pretty badass. i was very excited walking through the vatican, having a total fan girl moment thinking, OMG, this is where Cesare walked!!!

You should try Mario Puzo's version of it. He's the author of the Godfather. The novel is called 'The Family'. It was his last book before he died, he didn't finish it so his girlfriend with his blessings finished it for him.

i'm hesitant to read fictionalized accounts. kinda like how i don't believe all the "history" in tvb serials. alexander dumas did his research and included direct quotes from first hand accounts and letters. i have a feeling Puzo's version might make me angry, if it differs from what i know.

Puzo was said to be have been fascinated by the Borgia family and studied them well. Working with the facts that were known and adding his own interpretation when there were rumours.

Ofcourse, that's what it says in his book. Who knows if that's the case, but give it a try.

    Straight from wikipedia.
The Family is a 2001 novel by Mario Puzo.

The novel is about Pope Alexander VI and his family. Puzo spent over twenty years working on the book off and on, while he wrote others. It was finished by his longtime girlfriend, Carol Gino. Effectively his last novel.
    [edit] Plot introduction

The book has a factual core, with fictional events used to create the unknown aspects of Pope Alexander VI, formerly Cardinal Rodrigo Borgia, and his family's life. Many of its characters were real people, including Niccolò Machiavelli, Duarte Brandão and members of the Borgia Family.

LOL! Ok you beat me to it. I wasnt thinking about Cesare when I walked through the vatican ~ but he remained one of those historical figures that got me intrigued.

I also like the manga Fuyumi Souryo wrote about Cesare. It's fiction, but nevertheless, and enjoyable read.

Just can't take the actor playing Henry seriously since he's such a pipsqueak compared to the real Henry who was well built, blond, and 6ft 2in tall.
