Yup I thought the ending was a big F'ing lamo.
What's wrong with letting the 2 lovers walk off into the sunset?

    Finally watched it.

    Things that i liked:

So glad it turned out to be closer to a hk film than the recent big budget stuff coming from mainland directors

Andy lau did well in his role

    Siege warfare was ok

    Other things:

Early in the film, the jedi-like Ge Li simply mentioned his name and the city guards opened the gates for him. Granted he is just 1 person, but when the city is about to be attacked, security should be tighter, imo.

FBB as an officer of the elite cavalry unit??? Major Suspension of disbelief is in order.

Her character is of little significance, but bonus points for her death at the end, i hate happy endings.

Insufficient background coverage of the Mohist, I was really interested in this ancient group of people.

There was antiwar message somewhere but it was not effectively or forcefully conveyed.

At the end, I thought the part when the Zhao general and Ge Li went into the room to go mano-a-mano but ended up talking philosophically was silly and unrealistic. That the seemingly renowned, wise and accomplished general would turn this into some sort of macho personal duel is BS.

Was the movie based on fiction or real life history?

Because not all things always end happily.

One thing I don't understand was why there was a black guy in the movie. There were a few black slaves in 1500's-1600's brought in by portuguese. But in warring states period?

I think the black dud e in ther was supposed to symbolise how similar he is to Ge Li, in that they don't really fit in. i thought the ending was quite bitter, but quite well done. It shows the dark side of human nature, and how it would eventually ruin our lives. I thought it was stupid how the poeple hated teh king, yet cheered for him at teh end, If i were them, i would have ganged up and beat the wits out of him!

The black guy was nonsense, there were no Africans in China back in the warring states.
How Fan Bing Bing died was a perfect depressor for the viewers.
Ge Li tried so hard yet achieved nothing for his troubled soul that wished for goods.
    And the poor prince.
