Somehow I think A Sang's song "Yi Zhi Hen An Jing" (In Chinese Paladin) had a similar tone to Fish Leong Jing Ru's "Jie Shou" but I prefer Jie Shou coz the tone is nicer and sharper

I like Sheryl Crow's cover the best.

I actually like Puff Daddy's version quite a bit, I even bought the single some time ago and that's surprising because I usually don't like rap, hip hop, R&B and stuff like that.

Ronan Keating's cover was not as good as the original but I didn't think it was horrible.

You are so cruel on my nerves. Just hearing the words "LYF" and "Eyes on Me" in the same sentence is enough to make me hide in a corner, with hands over my ears. Very painful rendition for a Faye Wong fan like myself.

Good renditions...DHT's "Listen to My Heart." The ones Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon did in Walk the Line were all pretty good, especially "Jackson" and "Times A Wastin." In fact, I felt "Times A Wastin" was better in the Joaquin/Reese version than in the original version with June Carter and her ex-husband (the one before Johnny).

S.H.E has done lots of bad renditions of good songs, both english/korean/chinese. They're voices are very weak, especially on the ballads.

    Original:
Joy Division/New Order's "Ceremony" - This is simply my favorite song. There is no song that I like more than this one, it's really special to me.

    Covers:
Galaxie 500's - Hmm... kind of flat, I don't know how to say it; not enough oumph.
Xiu Xiu - This is horrible. The music is too noisy and the vocal, oh my gosh... it's like if it's sang by a mad man.
My obsessions: Joy Division, New Order, Bones, The Office.

    I will always love you!
I think Whitney Houston's version is kinda better than the original of Dolly Parton.

Oh my gosh, thank you so much for this. I never knew that Whitney Houston's version was a cover! I actually prefer Dolly Parton's version because I feel it's much more touching and personal.

Though Dolly Parton's singing voice is soft and very sweet, I prefer Whitney's singing voice. In a part since I find her singing voice so special, very high and strong. Err, well, and in the other part since I love the film Bodyguard with the actings of her in the role of herself and Kevin Costner.
    +++++++++++++++
Another very famous pair of the original and the cover:

    More than words

    performed by:
    Extreme
    and
    Westlife.
Personally, I like the original so much more than the cover song. The guitar techniques and the singing voices of Extreme - a rock band - are far far better than those of Westlife - a boysband.

The Clash's version of "I Fought The Law" is considered definitive, even over the Bobby Fuller Four's original 1960s version, but the original is by no means bad.

Similarly, the Rolling Stones' version of "Not Fade Away" rocks out more than Buddy Holly's original, although Holly's version was great as well.

Steer clear of the Small Faces' and Bonnie Raitt's version of "Runaway," though; only Del Shannon could do the song justice.

no, light my fire is written by robby kridger and jim morrison, the guitarist and the lead singer of the doors. the doors couldn't cover the song because it's their own song. well, but there've been a lot of music bands and singers covered this song.

Strutter by Kiss, the original was awesome.

The cover of Strutter by The Donna's was lame.

, thanks sooooo much pemberly!!!!! I was extremely surprised when I read your post since I've never heard anyone says that the song "Last Christmas" was written by the Beatles, eventhough I'm a big Beatlemania girl.
I was very confused so I've asked some of my friends. It turns out that there's a band which copies the style and covers the songs of the Fab Four called The Rubber Band.
Lol, they covered "Last Christmas" of George Michael, but they sounds like the Beatles sooooo much that many people think that George Michael covered that song.
Here is the song covered by The Rubber Band:
    Last Christmas

And the original by George Michael.

Lol, this band is so funny, how come I didn't know of them before. I think I'll have to buy some CDs of them.

Omggggg!!!!! They sell an album of The Rubber Band - The Beatmas at the price of ~ 50 $, while the initial price was just 16$.
