    Always on my Mind!
original: Elvis Presley - the King of Rock n Roll
    cover: Pet Shop Boys
I prefer Pet Shop Boys' version, it sounds cooler, and the clip is funnier as well.

    Seasons in the sun.
    original: Terry Jacks.
    cover song 1: Nirvana
    cover song 2: Westlife

Lol, Kurt Cobain was so funny. I couldn't have ever thought that he could play the drums and sing at the same time so well like that.

I actually thought the cover was better than the original. But I like the remix of Orgy's Blue Monday more.

Like I said, it's not bad; meaning it's good. It's just that the sound is not too original and I don't like the band, it's trying too hard to look cool, that's why I say they are poseurs. As a fan of New Order, of course I prefer the original and original it was. Blue Monday was released in 1983 and at the time its sound was revolutionary.

    New Order's "Temptation": 1982, 1987, 1993, 1998 - Which version do you prefer?

    Cover:
Moby - Another slower version of a New Order song.

    Original:
Erasure's A Little Respect - The melody is so catchy. Pop at its best, although it's quite gay; no macho men would admit liking this. That applies for all Erasure songs BTW.

    Cover:
    Wheatus - Annoying voice.

    Original:
    ABBA - Very good melody.

    Cover:
Erasure - I like this version, good for dancing.

I found another cover of "Blue Monday"... Nouvelle Vague. It's quite an original take on the song, different than the other covers.

    Good covers:
The Factory All Stars (fast forward to the middle) - You can't go too wrong when New Order members are part of it
The Cure (no voice and incomplete) - I have the complete version and it is very good, especially the music

    Bad covers:
Arcade Fire and U2 - Meh
    Swans - Horrible
Susanna and the Magical Orchestra - ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Found a few other covers of "Love Will Tear Us Apart"...

Nouvelle Vague - Yet another cover by them. They must be fans of Joy Division and New Order. It gets quite boring after a few seconds
Fall Out Boy - Sounds kind of emo, not my cup of tea
José González - The slowing down of Joy Division and New Order songs bores me to death
Toy Division - The best cover ever! LOL
Arthur Baker - Not a cover but a remix and I kind of like it
My obsessions: Joy Division, New Order, Bones, The Office.

The Bobby Fuller Four's version wasn't even the original. The song was originally recorded by Sonny Curtis of The Crickets.

The Crickets - This video is not the original recording but it's performed by the original band
Bobby Fuller Four - This version was more successful and it is this version that The Clash was inspired to do a cover
The Clash - This cover is very good and this live performance is simply amazing, the best IMO
Green Day - This one is quite similar to The Clash's and it's like a cover of the cover

I finally found a video of The Cure's cover of "Love Will Tear Us Apart" with Robert Smith's vocal. This is one of my favourite covers. It is as good as the original.

I wish that people would participate in this thread more often. I'd like to find out more covers because sometime, you don't know that it's cover like Whitney Houston's "I Will Always Love You". If Huang Rong didn't mentioned it, I would have always thought that that was an original. I'm glad that I learn about Dolly Parton's song because I actually prefer hers.

Original: Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now - Starship

George Lam made it his own with a cover version.

Sandy Lam is the queen of cover songs.

Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself

Original: Morrissey - Who can beat the legendary Moz?

Cover: The Killers - These guys come close to the Mancunian legend

    Shadowplay

Original: Joy Division - This is post-punk at its finest; raw, emotional, gloomy, creative, influential, Mancunian

Cover: The Killers - Most of you probably prefer this up-to-date and pop sound

As a side note, Tony Wilson died last night (August 10th, 2007) at the age of 57 of a heart attack. Those who love indie music will ever be grateful. RIP Anthony Howard Wilson.

    Electricity

    Original: OMD - Catchy synthpop

Cover: NOFX - Meh, it sounds too pop punk for the band

    "Unchained Melody"

Good: The classic, 1965 Righteous Brothers recording.

Bad: Every damn drunk karaoke singer that's attempted this.
