    Default Good and Bad Renditions

Do you know any old songs that has been sung by contemporary artists? Sometimes these renditions are good but some are not.

Please list the original song title and singer and a different singer who sings the same song and whether or not you thought this other singer did the song any justice?

i.e. Andrea Botchelli sang "I can't help falling in love with you" in his Amore album which is one of Elvis Presley's signature songs.

Lin Dai's Bu Liao Qing and David Tao's Wang bu Liao. although only the chorus is exactly the same... i prefer david tao's version..

Eric Clapton's Wonderful tonight; Damage's version and my personal favorite: Liu Li Yang's version!

Sailing ( dunno who did the original version) and N sync's version. i like n sync's better..

Lol, agree on David Tao's Wang Bu Liao. It's a nicer version, though I hate the front rapping part. And of course on Li yang's wonderful tonight. Muahah..

Er, maybe it's not coutned, but I like Z-Chen's version of Kuai Le that has a small part of cantonese song (forgot by whom)..

And Freya Lin's Yi Ge Ren Sheng Huo (has a lot of remakes, but i still prefer her version)..

Definitely Jacky Cheung's version of Wen Bie, so much better than MLTR's Take me to your heart which is WAY Too cheesy..

    Original:
Love Will Tear Us Apart by Joy Division

    Good covers:
The Factory All Stars (fast forward to the middle) - You can't go too wrong when New Order members are part of it
The Cure (no voice and incomplete) - I have the complete version and it is very good, especially the music

    Bad covers:
Arcade Fire and U2 - Meh
    Swans - Horrible
Susanna and the Magical Orchestra - ZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

sorry but I would like to ask if anyone heard a remake of Smoke gets in your eyes by a female singer? its a faster, slightly edgier and jazzier version. I have been trying to trace it but not successful so far...

I totally agree on Nsync's version of Sailing...its really very pleasant to listen to. and just to add, for a band given the conventional label of boyband, Nysnc produced really good music and the guys were good at their craft.

This is Christopher Cross (original singer) singing on Nsync's version with the guys. I like JC's voice. The sound quality does not do justice to the song though.

my contribution 'get down on it'. Original by Kool and the Gang, remake by Blue, i much prefer Blue's version, its hipper and has much stronger beats which I like, what I call very danceable music:

    Original:
New Order's "Blue Monday" - Still the best-selling 12" single of all time

    Cover:
Orgy's "Blue Monday" - Not bad but the band are poseurs.

I know it's not an older song, but Ronan Keating's version of "Iris" I thought, was horrible compared to the Goo Goo Dolls' version/original.

    Original:
    New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle"

    Covers:
Frente!'s - Too slow for my taste
No ideal who this is - This is like a cover of a cover
By two Chinese dudes - I have no idea who they are and on what show they are on but this rendition cracks me up. The music in this is very cheesy to say the least
Naked's - This one is similar to the cover of "Blue Monday" by Orgy; same sound

What's up with these bands covering New Order's tunes? Naked and Orgy? What's next, Intercorse?
