Default Bad Career Moves by Actresses

The best example would be Shu Qi turning down the role for Crouching Tiger, Hiden Dragon for some Pepsi commerical.
Others I can think of Ady An for taking all those second-leading role characters that are doing her no good ever since Dou Yu.
Ruby Lin for doing Qing Shen Shen Yu Meng Meng, even if it's "paying back a debt to Qiong Yao".
Vicki Zhao for the flag thing.

Any more? I'm sure there's lots lol.

Taking a second female lead role in "Chinese Paladin" actually propelled her to instant fame in mainland China. There has been many mainland roles rolling in for ever since but I think she/manager/company is/are pretty dumb to reject some pretty good roles and accept some horrible ones. For example, rejecting the role of "Xiao Qi" in "Tian Wai Fei Xian" which went to Ariel Lin, and taking on the role of "Miao Ruo Lan" in the horribly butchered adaptation of "Flying Fox of Snowy Mt". Another recent example would be her going into singing and releasing a debut album which probably does no good to her because her niche is acting and be concentrating on singing and promoting her album for the next months, she might lose out on many good role offers.

She did that?! Yeah, that's gotta be one of the worse moves I've ever seen. All the people seem to be nuts for being part of that crazy production, with the exception of Nie Yuan I guess, since he hasn't gotten a leading role in a while and lost to HXM for ROCH.

I also remembered--almost everyone in "The Promise", although they were too famous to begin w/ and it didn't hurt them as much, that messed up production sure didn't do them any favors.

Sometimes you would have to wonder at the intelligence of the management. >__>

But then again, they did not expect some of the offers they rejected would become as successful as they did.

The best example would be Shu Qi turning down the role for Crouching Tiger, Hiden Dragon for some Pepsi commerical.
    What role was she offered? Anyway I'm glad that she turned it down, especially if the offered role was Yu Jiaolong. x.x;

Yeah she was offered Zhang Zi Yi's role. I don't think her acting is necessarily worse than ZZY's, but she's not as pretty. Besides, she looks a bit too modern for some reason. But yeah, I'm talking about stupid moves for HER career, not for the audience. Though I think w/ ZZY's determination, she probably would've gotten famous some other way as well.

    oh..

I don't think Shu Qi could have pulled of the char taht well. ZZY had a more ancient look.

btw, HOllywood E voted Shu Qi as one of the sexiest stars out of 100... last year or something

For a lot of these (like Shu Qi) you can't blame her as much as her management company. I actually don't mind Shu Qi so much...she's always really pouty in her movies though, but then again Jiaolong is a pouty character. Zhang Ziyi was just kind of expressionless and just did some cool stunts, that's all.

I do wonder about Ang Lee's casting for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, for the role of Jiaolong. His first choice...Shu Qi...his second choice...Zhang Ziyi?

She did ok for her career if you know how she started out. She is Taiwanese and had a horrible Cantonese accent. Back when she first started she had a gap between her 2 front teeth same as that actress in that Chinese Ghost Story series.

She didn't get many roles and then the HK film economy collapsed and she joined some HK actors/actresses in filming nude Cat III movies just to survive and became known as a soft porn actress . Even actors like Alex Man did that.
It took her a long time to get recognition as a good actress.

that really sucks for shu qi. if she hadn't turned down the role, she would probably be just as popular as zhang ziyi is now, and zhang ziyi wouldn't even be recognized!

True, it is their management company's fault in some cases, but that is also a bad career decision on the actress' part in joining that company in the first place. They should leave as quickly as they can after the contract expires. *cough* Ady *cough*

err.... what mistakes did she make? i think all she did was become a bad gal, spending the night clubbing away, which is typical of hollywood actresses.

if this is not strictly speaking abt Asian Entertainment, i think the one who has made the worse career moves is BRITNEY SPEARS!

I agree. Britney's life outside her career is hardly admirable.

I never like ZZY's Yu Jiaolong in CTHD, except for the fact that she speaks way better Chinese than Michelle Yeoh and CYF. SHe doesn't even look pretty then, only little in an endearing way, fiesty too. Tried to watch the movie again last year and didn't even get halfway through it.

The first time I watched the movie, it was such a drag in spite of all the hype.

i think ZZY looked way better now with all the beautiful clothes and make-up.
