One of the great 1970s and 1980s bands. They were a veritable hit machine for several years, and played a variety of styles. They influenced everybody from Michael Jackson to the Smashing Pumpkins.

in terms of musical arrangement : the blending of classical music and rock, they're amazing.

Indeed, but they had way more than that going on (they really only did that on one record): like the other great bands in rock (i.e. Beatles, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, etc.), they had great versatility. They had that baroque rock thing going with "Bohemian Rhapsody," they did straight arena rock with "We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions," they did Elvis-rockabilly with "Crazy Little Thing Called Love," and they did disco and 80s dance music with tracks like "Another One Bites The Dust" and "Under Pressure." Only the best bands were capable of such versatility.

    yeah, that's the word: Versatile.
and no other bands followed, not that i'm saying they're crap.
even freddie mercury's voice is versatile. from angry to sweet. from victorious to desperate. his voice can really portary the emotions in the songs.

Freddie Mercury has often been described as having the greatest voice in the history of rock music. While that's a purely subjective statement, I would not question any declaration putting Mercury among the top five rock singers in history. There certainly wasn't another voice like his.

not to mention the simple yet powerful showmanship on stage.
no frills, no leathers, just the voice is enoguh to captivate and hold the audience.

Not a huge rock fan, but I started listening to some of their stuff after hearing one contestant from American Idol(i know that's sad isnt it =( ) sing "somebody to love". It's weird because I had heard alot of their stuff but I didnt know it was queen(freddy mercury) material. Everyone has proboally heard 'we are the champions and BR and we will rock you before, but I was shocked to find out that it was queen that did this little thing called love!!! I swear he sounds just like elvis on that track. Even a song like another one bites the dust(remixed), which I used to love to pop and lock to years back with out even knowing who sung it was orignally made by queen. A great band IMO and I hate rock music for the most part.

Also freddy mercury had a sick voice, if you ever heard him in a interview he had a pretty deep voice, but he hits those high notes like nothing when he sings...his natural singing voice also seems to be in the higher notes.

One of the best Rock Bands in my opinion. Their so influential, from hiphop, techno, modern rock, you can hear traces of them here and there.

    And don't forget Brian May!

On that note, I was never crazy about them. Thought they were amusing.

The first time I knew of Queen is when I heard the song 'We will rock u' covered by the boysband Five. Then I bought a CD consisting of their 20s hits. In general, their music sounds very funny, somewhat like disco/techno mixed with a bit classical music.
The best song of them I think is 'We are the champions'. Wow, if you listen to this song in any sport tournament, I bet you can't help singing along the lyric of it inwardly.

I was just listening to Queen's last single together before Freddie Mercury died, "These Are the Days of Our Lives."

Those lyrics, combined with the fact that Freddie Mercury would die very soon after this single was released, make the song very sad.
