In the world of wuxia, it's pretty much a given that soldiers, at least individually, are no threat to wulin martial arts experts. Although soldiers are trained warriors, their individual skills simply cannot compare to those of wulin fighters.
That's the ordinary rank and file soldiers. What about generals, however? Generals are valued for their strategic ability (which is more mental than physical), but a number of them probably also had good individual fighting skills as well. Not saying that most generals would challenge wulin's Greats, but are there a few generals who could hold their own in man-to-man combat against wulin experts? In ROCH, there seemed to be a Mongol general or two who could fight the likes of Lo Yau Gerk to a standstill. In HSDS, there seemed to be at least one Mongol general capable of fighting a Ming Cult Guardian Lord (perhaps not winning, but at least holding his own). Were there such generals in ancient armies?
