5 starts? The movie had no story. It was all special effects. Wow, so the actors moved their arms and lightning came out of their hands. Wowww. I saw the whole thing from beginning to end and all I know is they had to kill that big evil thing.

The movie had a story. It just didn't do a good job executing the story.
regardless of the flaws, Legend of Zu deserves recognition for the mesmerizing SFX.

I could swear there was no story. it's a movie that will definitely make you dumber if you watch it, it made me dumber.
It means you got eyes like apostrophes, you dress white, talk black, and drive Jew. So how am I supposed to know what kind of zipperhead dog-munching dink you are if you don't?
Here's the story in a nutshell, damn it:
the monster is out there. Ekin Cheng, Louis Koo, Zhang Ziyi, Wu Jing, Cecilia Cheung, and Sammo Hung are trying to annihilate this evil force, and in doing so Louis Koo turns evil, while Ekin Cheng gets burned, but in the end it's the usual good guys win scenerio.

I can watch the movie over and over and over, just for the SFX.

Yea, I understood that part. If you watched the whole movie you should have understood at least that much. So what was that in the beginning when Cecilia breaks up? And isn't ekin a god or something? Where did the monster come from?
If a movie is good because of its special effects, the max it should be rated is 2 stars. The story was "executed crapply(is that even a word)". But 5 stars?
Anybody can learn how to use some sfx program and create some nice colors. In order for a movie to be good, the storyline must be good.
All scenes including Cecilia Cheung deserves 5 stars. The rest deserves 0 stars.
i thought the series was okay. not a 5 star for story but definitely a 5 for cast and special effects.
best scenes:
louis vs evil louis (fighting wit the wings)
ekin vs. evil ekin (cool moon crescent technique)
part where her face breaks into a million pieces
ekin vs evil louis (why he die so sad)
did you guys think louis looked funny with the hat on when he was a bad guy.
one scene i did not understand was the part where louis saves the fairy and she tries to kiss him? so was he inflatuated with her? story so confusing. argggghhh if i understood the story better--fustration!!!!

"Happy posting."
still I have to repeat. story? what story? how many lines in the movie anyway? I think it's less than a handful. anyone wants to understand how crappy the HK film industry was during the recent era, that is THE movie to watch.
so what if it has CG, so do tons of other movies nowadays. and CG doesn't make a good movie, good story and good acting makes a movie good. I think Legend of Poo has exactly the ingredients to please a 2 year old. saying that it deserves a perfect 5 stars in like giving out Oscars to Van Damme or Steven Segal. That's how laughable it is.
ps. completely unrelated to the above point, speaking of Cecilia Cheung, her voice is as bad as Zhou Xun's, possibly worse. but she's a lot hotter.
It means you got eyes like apostrophes, you dress white, talk black, and drive Jew. So how am I supposed to know what kind of zipperhead dog-munching dink you are if you don't?
That's what I've been trying to say. Lets make something clear here, I am not saying the actors in the movies are bad actors, in fact I don't think there was one bad actor in the movie. Its just you really didn't have to show much skill in that movie. The whole thing was sfx. Like the fight scene between louis koo and himself, he didn't even move. He just stood there and the computer took care of the rest. In fact none of the actors really said anything or did any major movement. In fact most of them just waved their hands a bit and the sfx did the rest. I would give the sfx 5 stars. Not the movie as a whole.
i love the special affects. those are so cool. the actors in there are OK. i like Ekin and Louis. Cecilia is so pretty in there. i like ZiYi too (for the first time) and the other guy who ZiYi hugged in the movie, he was very cute! , i think she acted very well in there. overall, the movie is OK, deserves 4 stars.
The movie was more of an SFX exhibit--like watching a really long movie trailer--than anything else.

really, you liked the acting in there? I felt that every single character was a cameo appearance. Did anybody delivered more than a dozen lines? did they really even "act" in the movie? Zhang Ziyi's character for one, is completely useless, so useless that it made her other useless role in "Hero" seemed absolutely essential to the story.

yep, I agree. in essense, it lacks everything else needed to be classified as a movie.

So does Ashes of Time. Now that's a movie that deserves a negative ten rating. Yet it also gets 5 stars. There's no way to justify that.

Ashes Of Time might have lacked the action scenes it should have.
But the music, acting and background all were great.
The story got confusing at times tho and some scenes were dragged.

AoT is along the lines of an artistic film. while it's not something I can appretiate, I certainly understand why it received good reviews. I don't even want to comment on LoP, because I'm sure you know what I have to say.
It means you got eyes like apostrophes, you dress white, talk black, and drive Jew. So how am I supposed to know what kind of zipperhead dog-munching dink you are if you don't?
This is why it's so hard to rate a movie. If I were to write a review of the Titanic right after I saw it, I would've given it 2 stars, and with the subject "Biggest Waste of $200 million EVER".
If I were to write the review now, I'd give it 6 stars out of 5. Because if the movie can rake in the most money ever, then it deserves that many, regardless of my own feelings.
I never seen ashes of time, but I did see Titanic. I personally didn't think it was super good or anything, but it was alrite. There was a storyline and it required acting. Legend of Zu didn't even have a storyline, the whole thing was special effects. Half the time the characters didn't even move...
