Marty may or may not win an Oscar for “The Departed,” but he has definitely raised the profile of the film on which it’s based.“Infernal Affairs,” by the Hong Kong directors Andrew Lau and Alan Mak, is “an embarrassment of action-movie riches,” says Manohla Dargis. And in contrast to the gritty plot, the cinematography “almost looks as if it’s reflected off a sheet of silver.” Catch it in one of the midnight screenings this weekend, and nod knowingly if (when?) Scorsese name-checks it in his next awards speech.

"Embarrassment of riches" is a good thing. That means there is so much good stuff that they should really be embarrassed at the extravagance of it, as if they are just showing off at some point, ya know.

Ridiculous isn't it? I think that it was not about the movie, but about Martin Scorsese. The Acadmy wanted him to get an Oscar (or two), because I guess he was overdue so they gave it to him for The Departed.
