Default Did Kiu Fung ever get to use the "simplified" Hong Lung 18 Palms in DGSD Ed. 3?

One of the more interesting new developments from Jin Yong's revision of DGSD is that until Kiu Fung's time, the Hong Lung 18 Palms had been the Hong Lung 28 Palms, and only became the 18 Palms after being revised and simplified by Kiu Fung and Hui Juk.

Before he died, did Kiu Fung ever get a chance to use the new, improved Hong Lung 18 Palms, or did he only ever use the Hong Lung 28 Palms?

based on the book, it seems XF never got the chance to use the new and improved XL18Z.

    此时一灯大师的“一阳指”功夫实已到了登峰造极、炉火纯青的地步,指上发出的那股罡气似是温淳平和,但沛然浑厚,无可与抗

redundacy cut out. More powerful as in power wise (the biggest part) and I think it combined some of the Xiao Yiao Art elements into it since Xu Zhu helped out XF with the remodification.

It's interesting to think that North Beggar Hung 7 Gung and Gwok Jing might have unknowingly practiced some Siu Yiu Sect martial arts on top of the martial arts they already knew.

i believe the XYP influence was mainly internal, because XF reduced the stances insteading of adding more, he probably did not use it to the fullest after the refinement. the external became more DGKB style, simplicity overcomes complexity. the internal becames more varied, instead of just overwhelming power, the inner power was released in more complex and brillient fashions that was harder to resist, e.g. 'indomitable dragon regrets' in HSDS had three waves of power joining together in one strike, while in DGSD seemed to be just one wave of power in one strike.

Come to think of it, did XF use anything other then Kang Long You Hui in DGSD? I don't remember any of the other 17 stances being stated.

It would make sense that if XF thought there was a better way to use XL28 palms, he would have done it rather then sticking rigidly to pre-taught stances.

    Yup, exactly.

XF would have just used what he thought worked best and was most efficient. Which is why he thought XL28Z needed an update. He does need to have total mastery and understanding of the skill after all.

I'm trying to imagine the kind of awesome that Hui Juk's Siu Yiu Sect-powered Hong Lung 18 Palms would be. The guy must have spent his senior years blasting apart mountains.

In the new version, he uses 2 other stances. Against DCQ, it was changed to "Seeing Dragon in the Field" and I believe he also used one stance against a tiger that Wanyan Aguda was fighting.

If the 2 other stances on top of Kang Long You Hui was also from the list of 18 that we find in LOCH/ROCH and JY did not bother naming or showing him using the extra 10 (which I would assume had their own stance names), thats a hint that XF didn't bother to use those strokes which he felt was redundant.

Somehow, the 18DP Hard Yang style doesn't fit in with XZ's Xiao Yao skillset. His skills were Yin style vicious attacks (life-death talisman) or the Soft Yang absorbent style (6 Yang Palm). Note that JY also did not show XZ using his full inner power potential in attack, it was only shown in defence. Its part of the plot device not to have him shown hitting harder then Mr Extreme Yang I suppose.

=> Xu Zhu's internal energy is rather similar to 9 Yin energy of Guo Jing?
If that's the case, then because JY wrote that GJ's XL18P reached the level of perfection so with the total amount of energy which is 3+ times as much as Guo Jing's, Xu Zhu's XL18P must have reached the PEAK of perfection in Yin-Yang combination, perhaps being capable of wiping off the Great Dipper formation in 1 Kang Long You Hui or breaking several ribs of Sweeper Monk in one stance!

Yang Guo & Zhou Botong said in Chapters 6, 11 & 25 of ROCH:
    - 这道姑也算得美了,只是还不及桃花岛郭伯母,更加不及我姑姑。
    - 原来郭伯母竟是这般美貌,小时候我却不觉得。
    - 龙姑娘,我瞧你品貌才智,和那小黄蓉不相上下,武功也跟她差不离。

Guo Jings internal energy was pretty much neutral but its leaning towards the Yin side. Xu Zhu's Bei Men Zhen Qi was a perfectly balanced between Yin/Yang.
