Default Live performances that really threw you off

A lot of singers/bands sound great on recording, but when you hear them live, it's suddenly a different story, and you cannot believe that they're out earning money with voices like theirs.

What are some of the live performances that you remember really throwing you off a particular band/artist?

For example, with Chinese singers nowdays, it's basically all lip synching and if it isn't, gosh, it's either background singers you hear instead, or it's just plain off-tune, flat, probably in the wrong key, pronunciation flying everywhere...

Liu Yifei and "Fang Fei Mei Li"...

Hu Ge's live performance of "Liu Yue De Yu" wasn't hot either...he looked really nervous so that might be the reason, but let's just say it sounded better recorded.

now now, that's bias creeping in here.

you weren't thrown off by the performance - it was always your opinion.

I for one, am thinking Black Eyed Peas - gosh they really really really sucked live the first time i saw them and since then i have NEVER listened to a single song of theirs.

Really? I've never heard them live before, but I'm so not a fan of Fergie. She's oversexed and overrated!

hahaha, shez a bit snobby too. all of her songs are about herself, but i have to admit, i LOVE fergalicious... but mainly only because I do hip hop dancing.

she can't carry a tune unfortunately. The first and only time i heard her, i was thinking... gosh, she's the worst singer i've ever heard- totally flat... likely TOTALLY flat.

    If LYF gets a 1/10, Fergie gets a 0.0001/10

In rock 'n roll music, fans generally *don't* want performers to sound the same live as they do on a record. That would defeat the whole purpose of attending the show. Good rock music should sound a little rough around the edges...not too slick like the records do.

I think Panic! At the Disco sounded different when they performed live.

Avril Lavigne sounds like a dude when she performs live, which is why I sound away her Concert DVD.

I feel the same way. I find it very interesting when the live performance has a different feel. I don't want to hear the exact same thing as in an album. Might as well lip sync if that's what people want.
My obsessions: Joy Division, New Order, Bones, The Office.

In some cases, live versions totally blow away the studio recordings. For example, Cheap Trick's "I Want You To Want Me" didn't make any impression on the public in its studio version, but the live version from their 1979 concert at the Budokan in Tokyo became an all-time classic. Ditto Peter Frampton's "Baby I Love Your Way" (original version wasn't a hit; live version from FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE was huge), and Paul McCartney's "Maybe I'm Amazed" (Wings' live version from 1977 was a bigger hit than the 1971 version from McCartney's solo debut album) and "Coming Up."

Heck. The Grateful Dead's entire repertoire is better appreciated on their live recordings than on their studio recordings.

joey yung, miriam yeung 50% of the time, occassionally they'll sing some really good ones live.
I haven't really heard any others sing live that were really offkey, but then again I don't really listen to much pop.

I haven't been to the pink concert, I just saw a live performance at the grammies or mtv or some other awards thing a few years back.

but I have been to quite a few concerts in Australia and HK. I've seen to Sammi, Eason, Jacky, Joey, Miriam, Beyond, Ronald Cheng in concert in HK.
In Australia, I've seen quite a few local bands and overseas bands on tour.

one of my friends is a big eason fan. she went to his concert with her sister and brother-in-law, and as eason was leaving, she grabbed his hand and wouldn't let go until her brother-in-law took a picture of them. eason had to literally pry his hand free.
