i hate to start another arguement, but I really don't understand how some people insist that LYF was a bad XLN. persoanlly, even though i also really like carmen lee's XLN, i think seh played it rather out of character whereas LYF really grasped the atmospehre and nature of XLN. for example, in the scene where YG asked XLN who she would choose out of the wu brothers and XLN answered twice that she would marry YG, i thought lyf's version was the only only version taht actually brought out the feel of the book. to those who could read chinese, this is what the book says:

杨过待她走远，笑问：「倘若你是她，便嫁那一个？」小龙女侧头想了一阵，道：「嫁你。」杨过笑道：「我不算 。郭姑娘半点也不欢喜我。我说倘若你是她，二武兄弟之中你嫁那一个？」小龙女「嗯」了一声，心中拿二武来相 互比较，终於又道：「我还是嫁你。」杨过又是好笑，又是感激，伸臂将她搂在怀中，柔声道：「旁人那麽三心二 意，我的姑姑却只爱我一人。」

don't you agree that carmen lee's version is way too technical and doesn't grasp the feel of the scene at all and fann wong's version is way too deliberate. actually both versions of XLN look like they have the answers preprepared in their minds. only LYF's version is the naturalest and carries the original feel of hte book.

my point is i'm not saying the otehr xln's are bad, but why all attack lyf when other verisons have flaws too?

first of, I had never said in my post that LYF was one of the lousiest LYF out there. Second, you commented on why people stil watch her series when they dont like her. FOr TLBB, I am pretty sure people watched the series because it was a famous JY novel. FOr Chinese Paladin, the series was based on a very popular chinese game. ROCH 06, is also another adaption of from one of JY well known novels. For my case, I dont'think I was watching all of those series for the sake to see her acting. In fact, with what she did in CP and TLBB, i wasn't even looking foward for her as being a XLN and had no expectations for her. SHe did better than we all anticipated, but I guess some fans insist she was the best.

On the clips you posted, I wouldn't say she was horrible but pretty decent. But look at how much more dramatic the script is this time around? ZZY REALLY dramatized everything in this series. THe opera music, the slow bit frame, more romantic atmmostphere. For Carmen, she was a bit too cold as a XLN, but her chemistry with Louis was veyr endearing when you see the look in her eyes. FOr LYF, i found that her chemistry with HXM was a bit too blank and her long stares were just blank at times. I read an article along time ago explaining how she acted while they filmed.


ANd i think i still hold a bias for people who use their real voice to act all parts out like Idy and Carmen because i think if you can use own voice to act, you should get more props

i do agree with you about the chemistry between carmen lee and louis koo vs. lyf and hxm. it's just that for that particular scene (sorry, that happens to be my fav scene from ROCH, which is why i'm so picky about it) i was extremely extremely crossed with carmen's performance. when i first watched it I was like ????????.... It takes both bad directing and bad interpretation to lose the essence of a scene like that... again, not to criticize carmen or anything cause 1. i do like carmen and 2. i am not stupid enough to blatently criticize carmen and hope to not be slayed in spcnet.

as for lyf's version of that scene. even without that opery music and atmospehre, the acting itself could have stood strongly. I do agree that the dubbed voice helped a lot too. but i'm sure lyf could have managed with her own voice also, becuase as we all know, all mainland martial arts series are dubbed afterwards, even if the actor/actress decides to use her own voice, so sitting in a room, even the worst actress could produce a good voice fitting a scene with enough help. i guess it just would have been too time consuming and unnecessary.

Crystal is flawless! She has a stunning young, innocent type look. Her facial expressions are adorable! Her acting is amazing!

About ROCH 2006, I thought LYF portrayed XLN quite well. Although I perfer Idy and Carman's XLN over hers, she still did a great job.

Idy Chan's has a unique and classic type beauty. Her portrayal of XLN was great! She was cold, and showed no emotions, but at the same time she was sweet. Throughout the whole series, she acted her part extremely well. She and Andy were such a strong couple with a great chemistry. Idy is the CLASSIC XLN!

Carman Lee has a beautiful and mature look. Her XLN fitted the novel well. She was icy-cold and sometimes actually too cold. However, on the scenes with YG, she was sweet and innocent. Most importantly, she acted the part using her emotions, tone of voice, facial expressions and eyes. She and Louis are the best looking YG & XLN. Their chemistry was also beautiful and touching.

Crystal has a stunning, young innocent look. Again like Idy and Carman, she showed no emotions and was cold. Not too icy cold like Carman but more of both like Idy. What I liked best about her was that she was always graceful in every scene. She handled the fighting scenes best as well. Her flexiblity makes the fighting scenes look very impressive. Crystal & HXM are a great couple who shared a lovely chemistry.

After so many actresses who've acted as XLN, Crystal was one of the best. She's my third favourite after Idy & Carman
