Oh, who cares about her english? As long as she says it clear and audible, I'll have nothing to say against it.

She's the most beautiful Chinese actress I've ever seen until now. IMO, she even beats Cecilia Cheung for beauty!

And Xiao Longnu in ROCH2k6 is the best played XLN ever! XLN was supposed to be naive and innocent, to the point where she looks childish. Liu Yifei really brought out that character. Two thumbs up
It was often said, "Among horses, Chi Tu (Red Hare). Among retards, Lu Bu."

    Vice-President of Wuji Haters Club!

Originator of "Wuv Kuddly Hamsty" activity.

I was hoping that someone who had supposedly lived in the U.S. for 2 years would sound a little more fluent

I don't think her english is very good. Her grammar was so awkward

" the story is based on like a foreigner point of view of china legend and martial arts.. STUFF..erm. I think it is special and interesting and fun and and attracive story"

"jackie and jet's, that iss their first time they are working together. It's erm.. historic moment in film."

"fighting was it temper ( i think she meant with)

"taught me..let you actions be more real"

Tang wei, who never lived in the US, had a smoother interview. She didn't have the greatest pronunciation, but she seemed more cohesive with less "erms, buts, like".. and pausing and her range of vocabulary was fancier.

In all honesty, her pronounciation isn't TOO bad. Her grammar on the other hand...uhh..

I'm surprised by Tang Wei's English, did she study the language before?

I think LYF's awkwardness in the interview is more a matter of personality/self composition than a language problem. On the whole, I would say that she always tends to come across as nervous, uneasy and unnatural in most of her interviews (be it in English or Mandarin). Maybe she's inexperienced or she's just an introvert by nature.

I feel that is a bit too nitpicking. First off, not a LYF fan, nor a hater. I'm just speaking my mind. I feel that people expects too much from this girl. Maybe she doesn't deserve her fame but there's no reason to be picky on that. Some people are merely more fortunate than others.

I don't think Tang Wei's grammar was perfect either. I also think that her interview was more formal than LYF's.

It's obvious that LYF was nervous in her interview. And her English was fine. It just sounded like someone having a casual conversation. We're not very sophisticated in casual conversations ourselves. Like you, Sugar, look at how many words you've spelled wrong in that one post. I'm not trying to offend you, I'm trying to highlight a similarity. Some things we say in everyday life will not make sense if we put it in a sentence, but is still completely understandable when spoken. And that's just how LYF's interview is; a casual interview.

I also agree with Sunnysnow. LYF seems like an introverted person who's easily anxious in a pressured setting.

I never boast about going to Bejing Academy or claimed that I can speak the language did I? She has people claiming she is completly fluent in Japanese too. I guess personality wise, I am anal when it comes to speaking a language. If she didn't boast about going to Yale, Stanford, and how she lived in the US for 2-5 years ( and I swear, people keep telling different years) or w.e, I probably would have been alright if she spoke english like that.

Happy to hear that you are multi-lingual.

Just found it odd that people devote so much energy to praise / criticise someone that they don't even personally know, that's all.

Just watched The Forbidden Kingdom yesterday and liked it very much. I am a fan of LYF since her condor heroes days. Good for her to have a lead in Hollywood movie like this one. I think her english is not bad but not fluent neither. She's kind of awkward or something as compared to LBB. LBB's english is much more better and clearer, IMO. Anyway, maybe this is her first major english movie, I think with more roles she should be improving and I can detect her American accent too
    be happy

I can tell you that every single female will think she's not pretty enough 100+ times in her life. It's psychological, not physical.
