but if you think about it. how much repect does the average person, or celebrity get? not much. people just go on on forums saying how much they hate so and so when they really don't have any reason to. or, they make comments like, 'shes not pretty at all' or 'shes/hes ugly' or 'she/he can't act' or... you get the idea.
and dont say, well, they entered the celebrity world so they should expect some feedback. well no. they are people, too.

the difference between criticising the way someone looks/etc and commenting on a piece of artwork, is that, you are born with what you have and how you look, and the only way you can change that is by plastic surgery, which isnt very nice, is it. so if you're not the most beautiful thing, then, you really have no power over it.
but with art, you can practice and improve. its not like it has a mind of its own and can experience hurt and pain.

some/a lot of people don't even think twice about critizing someone's looks. many people don't even give others the proper respect, and you are telling me to give a PIECE OF ART some respect? kind of silly, don't you think?

i disagree. i think u should respect art work just like anything else. there are ppl that dont respect anything, but there are ppl that do. unless u want to be 1 of those people that dunt respect anything...

See, I think art is some thing abstract and not concrete at all. In fact, art has no limitation for some people... and you know people out there call child porn "art?" Would you respect that type of art then?

I am just saying in general, art is open to interpretation and criticisms. It's fine to criticize something, but we just all need to criticize using constructive criticisms.

As for the drawing criticism thing, I didn't exactly follow the whole thing (haven't visited in a while) but I don't think there's anything wrong with what linger said. It might've been critical, but she never said "this person can't draw and is probably blind" or anything along those lines. She just disliked the way she drew LYF. Now, it'd be nice if the effort was acknowledged (I personally think the drawing isn't that bad since I don't do well with figure drawings - I'm more of the performing arts type), but I agree that once you go public, you put yourself out for judgment. Life's harsh like that. You go to an audition, you screw up, and you'll get rejected regardless of how "nice" the judges are.

I think the key is the line between constructive criticism about someone's WORK compared to personal insults. There's a difference between saying "LYF's acting/singing sucks," "LYF's fashion tastes are awful" or even something physical like "LYF's thighs are big and could use some toning" (I've probably used those phrases) and going right out and saying "LYF is an @$$h0le."

many people on this forum diss other people's idols, which isnt very nice. i see it going on in many threads.

im one of those people who feel the need to point out stuff in art. probably because it means more to me and im more into it. if something is wrong or doesnt look that good, there's nothing wrong with pointing it out. especially if it doesnt look that good. its not like i went up to someone and yelled at them their art sucks or something. usually when i show someone my art i want them to offer critism so i can improve.

This is what I am saying. Art is subjective. No one is right or wrong when interpreting it. You don't call child porn art, but there ARE people who in this world call it art. Why are there so many pictures? People go draw things like so. The put their time and effort and call it art. In fact, that is where the problem arises. Some find that since it is "art", people can argue that banning such things is infringment into freedom of expression and speech.


Also, there is a case where I saw that at a ceremony, a naked guy walks into the building and sprayed himself in multiple colors and completely showing no respect to the ceremony that is occuring. To the general view, it was downright disrespectful, but some people said it was art, and the man was expressing his artistic side.
