TVB's DGSD '81 was known for having taken a number of liberties with the source material, particularly towards the end of the story. Here are a few oddities from DGSD '81 that I would like to check for novel accuracy:
After Mo Yung F'uk and Wong Yu Yin meet up following the Wulin Conference to clear Mo Yung F'uk's name for assorted wulin murders, the two discuss Mo Yung F'uk's ambitions. During the discussion, the names of the Kunlun Sect and the Mt. Hua Sect come up.
The Kunlun Sect mention seems feasible. In HSDS, it was said that Kunlun was among the oldest wulin sects still in existence (along with Shaolin, the Beggar's Union, and the Ming Cult). Was there, however, any reference to Kunlun Sect in the DGSD novel?
The Mt. Hua Sect is more problematic. Apparently, the Mt. Hua Sect (at least the version that figured so prominent in SOD/SPW) was founded by Gok Dai Tung of the Cheun Jen Sect, who would not even be born until several decades after the end of DGSD. If so, there could not have been a Mt. Hua Sect for Mo Yung F'uk to allude to in DGSD...unless it was a different Mt. Hua Sect that had no connection to the later version other than name and location.
So what's the skinny on all this?
