I remember reading somewhere that Xiaoqiao used to have a thing with Zhuge Liang before she married Zhou Yu.

This probably gonna get emphasized in the movie.

Hmm Xiaoqiao was supposed to be intelligent and a good wife... Not sure how her role will be implemented in the movie though.

I remember reading somewhere that Xiaoqiao used to have a thing with Zhuge Liang before she married Zhou Yu.
    I think that's most likely a fanfiction.

Somehow I think he will do just fine as Zhuge Liang... as long as they don't give him some outrageous outfit or makeup...

Ken Watanabe would have made a great Cao Cao. Pity nationalistic frenzy canned the idea.

Hu Jun as Zhao Yun?!? Wasn't Zhao Yun supposed to be a fair scholarly type?

Uhh... what do you mean by that? Zhao Yun was mainly a general so looking less scholarly would be totally fine.

    Oh I see.

So how was Zhou Yu being described in the novel, if you can remember? Masculine, well-built and looking older than his age?

Then don't be surprised Hu Jun got the role of Zhao Yun, since Chow Yunfat can get Zhou Yu. Miscasting people is a terrible crime.

Pity, Chow should be Cao Cao. Not sure if this adaptation will credit the Allied strategy at Red Cliff to Zhuge or Zhou.

excuse my illiterateness in RO3K, , but why is Chow Yun-fat a miscast? I think he did great in Curse of Golden Flower as the great emperor, im sure it's no burden for him to act as a general. sorry, ive never read Romance of 3Kingdoms, and have never seen the adaptation, so id like to know why Chow is a bad choice for the role....

Yes, CYF is a good actor, that cannot be denied.

It's his appearance I have a problem with. His appearance isn't suitable for Zhou Yu at all. I believe that while acting skills is important, the suitability of an actor for the character is important too. I'm sorry, but CYF don't really fit the bill at all and it's going to look, and feel weird with him as Zhou Yu. It's just like casting a girly-looking guy as someone like Genghis Khan or Cao Cao.

    Then again, it's just me.

    all right....point taken

it's rather funny how you described casting a girly-looking guy as genghis khan... now that would be a total miscast....

Yes. Just trying to highlight my POV to you.

Unfortunately, CYF looks too masculine, dark and, ahem, a little too old for a 36 years old naval commander who's anything but masculine and dark in all accounts.

Here's probably good news for Guo Xiang

Chow Yun-fatt left John Woo's Battle of Red Cliff

    Source: MonkeyPeaches.com
    Date: April 16, 2007

According to a statement Chow Yun-Fat sent to Sina.com, Chow resigned from John Woo’s The Battle of Red Cliff last Friday not because of some unrealistic demands from him. Chow received the screenplay just one week before and the production had already begun. This gave him very little time to prepare for his role as he had to deliver his lines in Mandarin. Chow said he had agreed to take a pay cut for playing his role. Also, he did not believe the US-based insurance company played any role in his departure. Chow also hoped this incident would not affect his friendship with John Woo and producer Terence Chang.

In another newsflash posted a day before the above came out,

Not sure how credible this one is. According to Sina.com, Chow Yun-Fat is no longer attached to John Woo's US$80 million war epic
The Battle of Red Cliff. Reportedly, out of the objection of an US-based incurrence company, financial backers of the costly project have decided not to accept some demands, including a lump-sump payment of an unknown figure, from Chow Yun-Fat. Another reason for his departure is that he is too old for play her role, Zhou Yu, who is supposed to be a young man. Please wait for further update.

Liu Ye is replacing Chang Chen as Sun Quan? *gee, after that role in Curse of Golden Flower, im still picturing him as the sissy guy*

    Source: MonkeyPeaches.com
    Date: March 24, 2007

According to several Chinese newspapers, Chang Chen (The Go Master, Three Times, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) has left John Woo’s The Battle of Red Cliff and his role, warlord Sun Quan, has been offered to Liu Ye (Dark Matter, Curse of the Golden Flowers, The Promise). Based on the real historical event and classic novel, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, The Battle of Red Cliff will feature the decisive battle (208 AD), which split the Han Empire into three kingdoms. At the turning point of the battle, the joint fleet of Sun Quan and Liu Bei destroyed the invading fleet of Cao Cao in Red Cliff with fire.
