I don't think Charmaine Sheh could be considered non-eye candy. Maybe now because she's kind of aging and all that, but she was considered pretty when she first started out, and got some vase roles.

The actress who recently died--Jung Da Bin, isn't too pretty (well I think she's cute-looking), but she got leads.

Another one is Ariel Lin, maybe she's a little bit prettier now, but certainly not when she first started out.

i saw Ariel Lin's Huang Rong pictures from LOCH07 thread.....in my opinion, she's not all that cute as those ppl say....just an average looking gal, me thinking Zhou Xun's Huang Rong was a lot cuter....

Yeah, I don't find her looking that good either. I was perplexed when watching Tian Wai Fei Xian because she's supposed to be this pretty fairy but she's not pretty at all!

maggie Siu, and one of my opinion is that Sheren Tang when she first started I didn't think she was pretty and still today, but her acting is superior to that of many.

and Tiff Lau (tainwain actress I think) is good but not so bright on screen, she was in Body Guard.

Liza Wang was quite pretty when she was young. But now she's really old, and I guess at her age, most women aren't really pretty anymore.

Another one I can think of is the little sister in the Korean drama, "Glass Slippers". She only looks good in some shots, but when they do close-ups on her, she looks VERY plain.

I rather watch "not so eye candy" lead actresses compared to the ones that cant act.
I think Ariel is rather ugly, but I still like her acting. Zhou xun, myolie etc.
But those that are ugly and can't act, like charmaine, I cant stand them.

I don't think Ariel is cute at all except for the fact that she is a bit chubby so that brings out cuteness...but I don't think her acting skills are bad at all (compared to certain actresses) so I don't mind her in Taiwanese series like ISWAK. Zhou Xun's not super cute herself now because of age...Weng Meiling was the cutest

I don't think Eva Huang Shengyi is very pretty at front angles and some other angles, but that's my own opinion. I also personally think Song Hye Kyo is just average in looks and her eyes aren't very...expressive.

I don't even think Ariel is THAT great of an actress. Sure, she's not bad since her hideous acting in "Secret Garden", but I don't see that much range. Has she ever done any mature roles? Most of her roles are very cutsy like and in Taiwanese-idol drama style. But meh, she evidently has mass appeal to the public, probably possesses something I can't see.

I agree--Eva can be quite pretty at certain angles and weird-looking at others. The same goes for Song Hye Kyo--actually many people have said that her individual features i.e. eyes, lips, nose, are very average, but somehow placed together, they create a nice face =P

well then...i question the judges for the year charmaine sheh was second runner up. she isn't eye candy at all. if you take her lack of acting into consideration and the roles that she got, it's somewhat appalling. add her gossip and "personality" into it then it's just a messed up world. how can someone like that take on main lead roles when she is not pretty and not a good acrtress?

linda chung is the next charmaine but at least is improving more rapidly than charmaine sheh. however, she isn't pretty as well. i swear, miss lok pick this girls so that hong kong's standards for beauty goes down and we'll all find even miss lok pretty. thank goodness some of us can see through that scam.

Linda Chung pretty? Pah...I honestly don't see the hype about her--she looks VERY VERY average to me. Charmaine Sheh definitely looked better than her when she was in her prime. Acting, I haven't seen so no idea. Fala Chen looks heaps prettier than Linda Chung.
