I read augster123's post exactly as he was thinking earlier. He was trying to ask whether it being highly possible that the "Du" generation monks learnt the YJJ or XSJ, although he rephrased his question in another way.

And no, I didn't read the 3rd edition. But when I mean advanced arts, I meant "uber" arts like augster had said: YJJ or XSJ. Moreover, I was referring to internal energy in that comment.

    And Whsie:

If that's the case, aren't you going a bit too far with the shaking roof and all? Additionally, I think Bliss wanted to portray a more vivid picture of the fight. As far as I'm concerned, the closest I could get with the powerful forces emanating from these fighters in the Chinese text was that their fight produced lots of loud whoosing, howling (wind) noises.
i only made a reference to a translation which i believed to be true to the novel. i'm not chinese literate so i'm depending on the kindness of strange translators. but DFBB did have a strong inner power base. his martial arts were comparable to RWX before his imprisonment and he improved alot to get the tittle 'number one in wulin'. he wouldn't get that tittle if he couldn't hold his own against someone who RWX was outmatched against like abbot fangsang, even if they never fought.

the du generations were the best in shaolin, so they must have had access to yiyinji or shaolin 9yang or some of the other dozen shaolin high inner power techniques.

Nothing wrong with that, except that you went further on to mention about the shaking roof. If I remember correctly, Bliss's translation doesn't have that.

he improved alot to get the tittle 'number one in wulin'.
In what aspect? Are you sure it's internal energy? Overall martial arts improve all right, but we know the major factor that contributed to his being a powerful contender in the 4 vs 1 fight would be his speed rather than his internal energy.

The other 'ors' from shaolin 9 Yang onwards -- maybe.

About the YJJ part... Being the best in Shaolin does not neceessarily mean you have learnt YJJ, right?
