Crazy Fan Brings Tragedy to Her Family

This Andy Lau fan is indeed a couple of french fries short of a Happy Meal, but the ultimate celebrity fan worshipper turned insane is still John Hinckley, Jr., the Jodie Foster fan who, in 1981, shot the President of the United States (Ronald Reagan) just to get his idol's attention.

Miss Yang here still has NOTHING on Mr. Hinckley. Miss Yang's actions led to the death of her father, but Mr. Hinckley's *almost* took down the Leader of the Free World.

A male netizen who had courted former online sensation Furong Jiejie, or Sister Hibiscus, has proposed to Yang Lijuan, the obsessive fan of Hong Kong star Andy Lau, claiming he has dumped his former love to give Yang his whole-hearted support.

Twenty-four-year-old Shi Feng, or "Male With Photo" by his online nickname, censured Lau for his alleged irresponsibility and claimed he and Yang, 30, have something in common. Shi said he had similar experience and, confident in his appearance, is encouraging Yang to channel her love for Lau to him. Shi said he is eager to meet Yang personally and have a heart-to-heart talk.

"I think I'm good-looking enough and believe that my sincerity will capture Yang's heart," Shi said in his blog.

Shi gained fame in the virtual world by wooing a female netizen nicknamed Sister Hibiscus, who made a sensation by posting sexy pictures of herself. Shi said he has now given up on Sister Hibiscus for Yang and would like to support Yang and his widowed mother economically.

Meanwhile, famous singer Yang Chengang has also offered 30,000 yuan (US$3,880) to 40,000 yuan to pay for the cost of Yang's father's funeral. Yang Chengang said he felt he should help her though he thinks the family was stupid.

Yang Lijuan's 68-year-old father jumped into the sea in Kowloon last week, when he and his wife escorted their daughter to meet Lau. His body was found in the sea near the Tsim Sha Tsui area, earlier reports said.

Yang Lijuan returned to her hometown Lanzhou, capital of Gansu Province, on Friday, leaving her father's body behind at a public funeral parlor in Hong Kong.

ghostdarTeal’c: Actually, I followed this story through Spcnet until Yearning’s latest update, whereby that news so appalled me that my morbid curiosity got the better of me, so in one sitting I did some catching up with the story.

In one report, the father was remembered as a kind and gentle man, a good teacher much loved by his students. Always a loner, but becoming more so due to his daughter’s conditions, (mental illness is still a stigma in many societies, including Chinese.). His marriage was rocky, the wife being the shrew and he, the henpecked husband. All in all, a depressing human story to read. What is even more depressing to read is that some people actually blamed Andy for this tragedy.

Ken: For me, what separates Yang from the other crazy fans like Hinckley who acted alone is that her parents acted in concert with her. I could dismiss killer fans like Hinckley as being psychos, but a parent (no matter how misguided) willing to die for his child’s fantasy just somehow seemed so much more tragic. Where is tough love when it’s needed? Hopefully, her delusion won't turn homicidal.

Yang’s age is all over the place, from being 28 to 29 and now to 30 years old.

Now, I really pity the father. Sounds like a very depressed man. Having and insane daughter and a shrewish wive really took the toll on him. Maybe he's just too tired to continue with his depressed life, so, just took the quick way out.

I heard about this on AF and couldn't believe it!! Gosh, I have been a fan of ANdy for over 20 years, but I would never be anything like this fan. She is a psychopath!! She also has no right to blame Andy for her stupidity. ANdy is already being nice about it, but she is pushing everything too far. I can't believe her parents would support her in her wacko ways... sigh.. What has this world come to? Or is this all a scam that has gone wrong???I don't find anything wrong with being a loyal fan and idolizing your idol or even day dreaming about meeting them and all that. I think it is time for my comments on this incident. I do admit that I have my days of going crazy over my idols, favourite movie star or singer. There are times I even considered to declare myself crazy for my crazy obsession. The crazy daydreaming of being their friends is so hopelessly silly part of me. Nevertheless, there 1 thing that still roots me down. Perhaps it's my rationality. As crazy as I can get, I think I only admire their artistic works and nothing more. I try my best to keep it at that. More often than not, this crazy feeling will go away in time as mysteriously as it came to me. I would never go the tremendous extra mile to do such things to my parents. Bless them, they'll knock all those senses to me if this is really happening to me. In the end, the conclusion of this incident is I don't get it!

Yang Lijuan in Hong Kong

A fan obsessed with movie star Andy Lau has received an entry permit so she can return to Hong Kong to handle the funeral of her father who committed suicide after her hopeless attraction for the star had bankrupted the family.

The 28-year-old woman, Yang Lijuan, denied media reports that she would demand 500,000 yuan (US$64,767) from Lau in compensation for her father’s suicide.

“I have never asked Lau to compensate me with 500,000 yuan and I didn’t receive 10,000 yuan from him as some media have reported,” Yang said.

Yang has been crazy about Lau for 13 years and her obsession became public when her father committed suicide in an effort to force Lau to have a private talk with her.

“I will go to Hong Kong to take my dad’s ashes, not to meet Andy Lau, but if he was a real person, he should show up and fulfill my father’s final wish,” Yang said.

Yang said she hasn’t determined the date of her trip to Hong Kong.

Yang’s father, 68, jumped into Salisbury Sea off Kowloon around midnight on March 26, one day after he and his wife had escorted their daughter to meet Lau at Lau’s birthday party. His body was found in the harbor near the Tsim Sha Tsui area.

The father left a 12-page suicide letter, claiming that the family’s trip to Hong Kong left them penniless and it was all Lau’s fault.

A star chaser-turned-director has announced his plan to make a thought-provoking film based on Hong Kong veteran Andy Lau’s obsessive fan, Yang Lijuan.

Director Chen Tianxing said the news struck a chord with him, and he felt a great need to make a film, showing such fans to appreciate their icons in healthy way.

He also plans to donate all earnings from the screening to Yang Lijuan and her widowed mother.
