Hi guys, wow, lots of news on the Lu Ding Ji production in the past couple of days. As a RPG philistine, I’ve been staying away to recuperate from the damage the costumes have done to my eyes. Honestly, I think they make Fantasy Zhuxian’s costume design look like haute couture, especially the ensembles poor Ruolan and Prince Fourteen have been put in.

So there’s really only six-day’s worth of pictures, even though they promised us seven? Harumph! I call that false advertising. The tiny glimpses we got for Sunday better make their way to the Internet sooner or later, one way or another (come on TR publicity, do your job). Loved how everyone jumped in with their own fashion critiques, too bad I missed the discussions when they went on.
Re: the last outfit on Saturday, according to the weibo caption it’s supposed to be “old-school” “academia” style, hence the crisp Oxford student shirt and school tie. I notice that the pants fit lower on her hips here, emphasizing a straight school girl silhouette rather than the slimness of the waist (compared to the belted ensembles of Wednesday or Friday). The school tie gives it a nice pop of color I think, and the lighting’s really nice, so it’s natural that everyone likes this look.
Looking at those black pumps again, I guess she really does have big feet.

I don't know why everyone's hating on the headband, lol. I'm not a huge fan of it, but I think it adds a bit of flavour. I think the glasses are supposed to be fashion blogger chic (I'd say half the outfits are built on fashion blogger chic, especially with the glasses, pants, vintage top, etc.). I think it's a dreadful trend because 99.999% of fashion bloggers claim to be unique...in the exact same way. But they did make some nice alterations and she makes it seem natural, which saves it from being just "blah".

am i the only one who actually loves the headband? i thought it went with thursday's look much better than wednesday though. i must say i want all those outfits. LSS looks lovely

Oh I liked the headband too. It’s not really “her” but I liked it. I’m different though in that I liked it with Wednesday’s look better than Thursday’s. Maybe because Wednesday’s ensemble was sophisticated and dramatic, the bohemian hair and makeup created a bit of an interesting flair and contrast. In contrast, the chocolate shop outfit was more low-key, something closer to everyday life, so the headband just stood out for me a bit more in a jarring way.
I’m pretty sure the glasses are her own instead of sth just accessorized by the stylist, as she’s worn them (or v. similar ones) in private and BTS clips, and also as part of her modern-day Ruoxi guise. Supposedly she’s a bit (100-200 degrees) nearsighted, and she’s allergic to contacts, but she often goes without them anyway. That’s prob. part of the reason for the “glazed look” she was widely known for earlier in her career.

I have to say that though I like how classy she looks in the structured clothing she favors so much (and which I’d defended to Xiao Xiao in the past), there’s a part of me that does miss the more fluid layered looks she wore earlier in her career, with the thin cardigans and scarves and such (I have to dig out old pictures some other time for examples of what I mean here). They’re still her in that they’re casual and unfussy, but they’d felt a bit more girlish/feminine to me, if dressed down still.

I’ve found the pic of YH and the kitty on LSS’s weibo, as per this discussion b/n xiaolong and me ages and ages back (by which we confused the heck out of Xiao Xiao).

I'm love little furry things, so pardon me if I'm trying to recognise her cats (it's 10000X more difficult to recognize cats than dogs). Was that cat the same one whom YH scared the sh*t out of? Looks like HG & LSS share the same love for cats.

Someone with the photo will have to repost it (Xiao Xiao?), but my first instinct as a cat owner is to say no. The forehead markings seem different iirc.

It’s from their trip to Egypt, so I think we can definitely say that it’s not the same cat in the later pic. Not sure if this is a feral cat they got acquainted with there (there are other pics of K and YM surrounded by them), it seems kinda rotund and docile for one. It definitely looks older than the kitty LSS posed with more recently.

The problem is Chen Jingchou is a very run of the mill game protagonist. Hu Ge's played enough of these kind of characters and it really doesn't serve to help his career at all. Of course his fans argue that doing another video game drama won't serve his career anyways but at least he is doing a more interesting role like Yuwen Tuo.

I personally liked Yuwen Tuo much better than Chen Jingchou in the game, even though Yuwen Tuo was the "antagonist". He's also probably my favorite character in the game series. Well from the few Xuan yuan jian games I'm played anyways. :P

I haven't played the game. I wanted Hu Ge to play Chen Jingchou because I hope he would pair up w/ LSS

Recently, I went online to read more info on Tian Zhi Hen, and now I do think that Chen Jingchou is a boring character, not much different from previous Hu Ge's role in CP. From the little info on wikipedia, I do think that Yuwen Tuo is interesting, he is not totally "antagonist" though. I think he is semi-villainous. I think he is one of those guys who honestly think that what they are doing is the best for others (this is just my guess b/c they did not describe him in length ) Anyway, this might be a good role for Hu Ge for a little change after all the time playing the "hero." Could you tell me more about Yuwen Tuo plz?

honestly, i hate series that have two leading males and two leading females. if it is more like one leading couple, but a minor second couple i'm fine. LOCH is the only exceptional for me. Anyways, I'm so confuse as to between ? Xiao Xiao and Tuo ???, the other lady, who will get with who? I feel like ? Xiao Xiao will end up with Yuwen Tuo and Jingchou with the other lady Tuo ?.

Wow, is that WXB pointing a "gun" at himself? LOL. I can totally see a more pervvy Li Xiao Yao coming out here.

I disagree with Mookiehyun (me and Allinon's livejournal friend - an extremely rabid YH fangirl and Qing Dynasty buff) who insists YH would make the ideal WXB since he's a real-life WXB What struck me about WXB (besides his loving relationship with Kangxi) is that he is FUNNY! Really similar to Hu Ge's Li Xiao Yao. Maybe Nicky's more versatile in being able to bring out the dark side of a character and still can be comedic at the same time, but yeah, I think if they were to be paired up, HG is better suited as WXB. It always struck me that WXB is younger, but they should be same age peers right? And was WXB really that dark/complicated? I hated HXM as WXB even though he was chosen to bring out the character's dark anti-hero side. But funny is the much more important aspect of WXB. HXM tanks at comedy. Period.

Looks like the game won't be focusing on WXB's pervvy ways and more on Kangxi-WXB comradeship in an epic battle with Sophia (hopefully)? I loooovve those pics of HG & Nicky goofing around! I want to see more of them together.

It's not so much that WXB himself is so dark, but it's the way the novel chose to focus on plumbing such a character type (who would be a sideshow in any other wuxia novel) and have him at its center, with a skewed worldview to match. Does that make sense at all?

I'd completely forgotten that ZJZ actually did make a version of DoMD. He's always struck me as someone whose ambitions outstripped his taste level/artistic insights tbh: you can't create an adult vision of DoMD just by hyping yourself up with such claims, and then be too concerned with pleasing everyone commercially. (The kind of version I was thinking of maybe belongs more in a movie theatre than on TV.) Was HXM really chosen because they thought he could be dark and adult (I never saw Feng Sheng, supposedly a good dramatic turn for him)? Hate to say this, but for all of his extremely gorgeous and manly looks, I find his entire public persona to be that of an overgrown adolescent. And he does make the audience laugh when he tries to be comedic--too bad it's at him and not with him...

Is this funny face part of the BTS or HG rehearsing his WXB face? Definitely a funny WXB in the works here! I think HG has a great sense of comic timing - something that YH or HXM can never have.

IMO if he wants to stretch his versatility, he should go more into comedy rather than dark & complicated.

LOL...I'm not really interested in LSS clothes. I'm more into her dramas. So it's back to game series after the challenging Ruoxi? The Russian princess turn...not sure about that, but it's probably the best role rather than any of the wives.

Frankly I'm not looking forward to HG as WXB. Despite the inferior production props of the DOMD 1984 classic, no one has ever come close to Tony Leung's comic timing mastery in his WXB.

I get the feeling she asked to play Tuoba Yu'Er because the other female character is a douchebag LOL. Just like she avoided the douchebag role of Qiao'Er in Clothing the World and played the much more interesting female character (even with so little scenes).

Excuse me if I fangirl another actress here - but it just crossed my mind that if Ariel Lin were to play WXB, she would palm Tony Leung's WXB! Hu Ge is good at comedy but Ariel's a classic! Why not have a cross-dressing actress play WXB who would sizzle with Nicky? Tangren, why let gender get in your way?!

I heard the news that the main male lead will be Yuwen Tuo instead of Chen Jingchou. Haha, I know it, Tangren needs Hu Ge to attract viewers. But I think they will change quite a bit from the original game. BTW, Tuoba Yu'er is the main female lead. I hope the male lead and female lead will pair up like in many other series. I want LSS - Hu Ge badly *cross fingers.*
