Interestingly, in her very first drama 月影風荷, she was cast in a lead role, which was a pretty big gamble on the director's part as LSS had no acting training.

Yeah, indeed the director took a BIG gamble with LSS for that series. I watched clips of it here and there..and I gotta say, it was painful to watch....hehehe It was if she was not acting at all...I don't know how the series did, but it must have done okay, since he did cast her in another series of his as a second female lead?

LSS didn't officially join Tangren until 2007 right? So, when she was filming Young Warriors in 2006, she must have not been with the company yet. There must be something about LSS that Karen liked (don't think it's her acting or beauty) to sign LSS onto the company. When LSS signed with the company, was Lin Jia Yu still there or was she already gone...do you know?

I think Lin Jiayu left Tangren right after Young Warriors to sign up with Huayi. Anyway, I'm glad they got the casting right for LOCH. Imagine the original casting choice:
Guo Jing - Hu Ge
Huang Rong - Lin Jiayu
Yang Kang - Nicholas Tse or Wallace Huo
Mu Nianci - Ariel Lin


Let's hope they get the casting right for Bu Bu Jing Xin.

LSS - I think it's the screen presence. You can cast the most gorgeous supermodel in a movie, but she may lack the screen presence, e.g. Cindy Crawford in Fair Game = wash-out + disaster.

You know, come to think about it, I don't think Lin Jiayu left after Young Warriors because she filmed Liao Zhai of 2007 with Tangren. Must be after Liao Zhai, and LSS signed in the same year.

Ohhh, according to Karen's blog, Bu Bu Jing Xin will start filming by end-Nov 2010. And she hasn't even announced the casting! I'm most curious about the female lead. I hope it's not Janine because I don't think she has enough IT Girl power for the role. I thought she was just so-so in TYZN and she lacks chemistry with YH - certainly a wash-out compared to Yang Mi. I hope LSS will have a supporting or guest role at least. Pity Wallace Chung won't be in it because his agent asked Karen to wait until early 2011 as he's committed to two other projects, but she can't wait.

I'm hopeful for the casting given that Tangren has a better history of good casting than others, especially for the male roles. E.g. in Mei Ren Xin Ji, my Mum kept wishing YH was General Zhou Yafu, as she felt Mickey looks too small sized to have the build and heroic stature of a "Da Jiang Jun". But Mickey by default plays dashing hero roles in ALL Yu Zheng productions anyway.

Whoa, I don't think I can stomach that original casting list for LOCH 2008! I agree with Liu Xiao Xiao; I can't think of anyone as Yang Kang and MuNianci other than Yuan Hong and LSS.

Awww! Wallace Chung won't be a part of the cast of Bu Bu Jing Xin? That's such a pity. And I even posted in the Yuan Hong thread (before reading this post in the LSS one) that Wallace Chung would have made a wonderful ruthless 4th prince. Karen should have waited. It's only a few months. If she's filming in November, she only has to wait 2-3 months for Wallace's schedule to free up. Now I'm incredibly disappointed after having such high hopes of seeing Wallace Chung in the same series with Yuan Hong! I truly think, with those two as leading men, Bu Bu Jing Xin would have been a hit! By the way, out of curiosity, what two projects is Wallace Chung committed to so that he cannot accept a role in Bu Bu Jing Xin?

If we're looking for a female lead for Bu Bu Jing Xin who has terrific chemistry with Yuan Hong, then LSS should be at the top of the list. Why hasn't Karen considered her for the lead female role?

xiaolong, is it really true about Yuan Hong ( I saw your comment on Youtube)? If it is, then the chance of Yuan Hong and LSS cooperating again will be slim to none

If Yuan Hong is not going to be in Bu Bu Jing Xin, then there may be chances for LSS to be in the series right? Karen would have to have at least one of her artist in the series and who would it be unless Hu Ge decides to do it.....hmmm.

Apparently a Sohu insider spilled the beans that Karen-YH relations have been chilly for a couple of months. Anyway, Karen has to be nice to YH no matter. If she tries to be catty, HG would definitely not like it .

Actually, YH is considered pretty successful and recognized compared to the likes of Yan Kuan, Nie Yuan and Qiao Zhenyu. HG is a pretty high benchmark to be compared to.

Karen has confirmed YH will be in 24-26 episodes of Bu Bu Jing Xin, no worries. But I'll miss the YH-LSS coupling.

Here's a (more or less) translation of LSS' New Face Sohu interview:
When she turned 17 in 2004, LSS asked herself: “Besides ballet, what else can I do?

This was the fateful year when the director of TV series, Moon Shadow Wind (月影风荷) visited Beijing Dance Academy to scout for talent and spotted LSS during a performance rehearsal. Just from that one encounter, LSS life changed and she entered the entertainment industry.

Tangren then took in LSS and groomed her into a top period drama actress. Her trump card for success was her fragile, delicate beauty and temperament. Her recent roles: Mu Nianci, Yellow Dressed Maiden, Yang Si Niang, Long Kui, Yan San Niang – have all been period roles which have made her one of the most recognized actresses born after 1985. Meeting LSS in person, you can clearly sense the gentleness of Mu Nianci in her, yet there is also a hint of the feisty Long Kui and Yan San Niang.

LSS’ English name is Cecilia, the same name as Cecilia Cheung’s. In Latin, the word “Cecilia” encompasses two meanings: beauty and gentleness, with a touch of sensuality. It’s a name suitable for simple, down-to-earth and kind-hearted ladies. These attributes aptly describe LSS’ personality and demeanour.

As a Pisces Rabbit, LSS is reserved by nature. She poses for our photographs with some caution and trepidation, but is still dedicated to doing a good job nonetheless. Understandably, not many people are willing to bare their feet to show you some ballet steps at a first meeting, but we still managed to finish a great photoshoot.

Sohu: When you first became famous, a lot of people called you “Little Liu Yifei”. Did you mind being called that?
LSS: Actually I think I look more like my mother. People just tend to compare new actresses with more famous ones, but I feel that everyone have their own unique style.
Sohu: Have you ever had any regrets entering the entertainment industry instead of continuing with your ballet career?
LSS: Well, naturally I do think about what could have happened if I continued with ballet which is a beautiful art form. I have ever thought of becoming a ballet teacher as an alternative career.
Sohu: You have acted mostly in period dramas. Are you of afraid of being stereotyped?
LSS: Well, if there is opportunity to act in different types of roles, I would want to try them out to extend my experience.
Sohu: Zhang Ziyi and Zhou Xun were also ballerinas before becoming actresses. Do you hope to one day reach their level of fame?
LSS: Of course I do hope to if the opportunities come by.

I know the actors above were underrated, but I didn't know Yuan Hong were more recognized than they were .

And I know Yuan Hong would probably never be as popular as Hu Ge, so we can't compare...however, as long as Yuan Hong's with Tangren there's always gonna be that comparison and Yuan Hong will always be his shadow. So it's good that he left....

I can't wait to see him in Bu Bu Jing Xin and Ruby's series...

That was what I thought too. I thought it would be broadcast as soon as the end of November, but according to this News (correct me if I'm wrong xiaolong) it won't be broadcast as a drama until 2011?

They were and still are showing a 60 minute directors cut preview on the big screen for selected students, the media, and critics for opinions.

The stars didn't come for the preview, so no photos But I am almost certain Karen will be promoting this series way more than Tian Ya

I think the comic books were passed out for people who attended the previews only...but I could be wrong.
