    babygurl -

i 4got about FoJ. i've never seen the series b4. jeez i've missed a lot of her series!
I've never seen Files of Justice series before either, because I generally dislike lawyers and cops dramas. In fact, I wouldn't even watch DIF 4 if I haven't heard so much about the Louis/Jessica pairing in there.

I like Flora Chan too, but since I'm adverse to watching lawyer dramas, I haven't seen a lot of the series she's famous for. One day, I'll have to try and make the effort.

unfortunately i have 2 listen 2 dubs in Viet. i swear, i'm gonna learn Chinese if it's the last thing i do!!
That's a good thing. From a practical viewpoint, I'd encourage you to learn Chinese in Mandarin, because it's so widely used. Other than immersing yourself in the HK entertainment scene, Cantonese is unfortunately a minority dialect. Besides, once you master Chinese, it's very easy to grasp the dialects like Cantonese, and it gives you a great foothold to languages like Korean and Japanese as well.

Another actress I like is Michelle Yip and thats thanks to Golden Faith playing Jessica's sister.
Oh yes, I like her too, and her resemblance to Jessica is really unnerving. I started noticing Michelle Yip while watching Eternal Happiness, and I was going, eek, she looks like Jessica Hsuan! I love their camaraderie as sisters in Golden Faith, and it helps a lot that they look so alike. Have you seen Eternal Happiness? I know I'm digressing from the topic of this forum, but I think Michelle looks most like Jessica in Eternal Happiness. Might have something to do with her 'male' makeup, and that series is terrific.

That was SO funny! I mean, here I was, thinking that their Mandarin was not too shabby since in those interviews, they could at least stew sentences together. That is, compared to my one-word stutters! LOL. And now, having heard that from you, that's hilarious! No wonder, you said, they were dubbed! hahaha.....
Actually, Jessica's Mandarin is better than Gallen's. She's comprehensible, but her language standard falls below par for that which is required in a show. I'd love to catch her in an English drama though, and I'm hoping one day she'll come to Singapore to do an English sitcom.

FOJ5 was Flora's first ever TVB series, and I have to say that she was a bit stiff, but she has this persona that got my attention. I hope they get to work together again. They look like pretty good friends. "UE" was better, also the longer hair made her face look LESS long and sharp. As for Michelle Yip, no offense, I felt she was rather annoying in "GF". I don't know, that's just me. Her facial expressions were rather stiff, I thought.

Wait? How is Jessica's Mandarin better than Gallen's? I mean, she mentioned that she was still learning (somewhere in 2002) Mandarin and before that, it was hardly existent.

Oh, you read my mind, though. I've heard her Thailand interview, not all of it, but her English is great. Not very heavily accented, which is good. I mean, I'm so envious of you Singaporeans because Flora is doing an English sitcom in Singapore! I plan to come over and visit, if I could! hahaha..... And if Jessica goes over there, all the more I'd fly to Singapore on the next plane out! hahaha.....

ahhh 1 good thing about my International Channel is that it shows Lydia Sum's english sitcom so it'll probably show Flora's 2. Flora's english singing is excellent. did u c the clip where she sings Color of the Wind? very good & her voice can get high 2. reporters asked Jessica if she'd like 2 do an english sitcom like Flora & she said she thinks it'll be interesting. let's get our black, purple, blue, green.....magic going so she'll do an english sitcom!!

c u can't tell when some1 has an accent unless u know the language. i can kinda tell sometimes though when they pause in the middle of a sentence & their talking seems kinda stiff.

u think i can learn both Madarine & Cantonese? my dream is 2 visit HK & i'd like 2 travel thru asia so learning a lil bit of both wud be helpful. unfortunately my skool doesn't teach Chinese so i'm stuck w/ Spanish ugh! my brain mite explode from all these languages i'm trying 2 master

my 1st series of Flora's was Threshold of an Era. bad 1st impression cuz i was rooting 4 Kenix. but i like her now cuz she seems just as nice as Jessica. maybe that's y they're such good friends.

as 4 Michelle Yip, i liked her sister role w/ Jessica. i also felt bad 4 her in "something something Verdant Bow" (can't think of title at the moment & it's making me mad). such a sad series.

I agree too. Most of the time in that series, she just goes around with a shocked look on her face, which irritated me quite a bit. I just feel that her scenes with Jessica was arguably the better part of her performance in there.

I didn't know she just started learning Mandarin recently. Anyway, whatever I said is solely based on the Mandarin interviews I've seen of them. Jessica's diction is clearer than Gallen's, and her Mandarin tones are more concise and less Cantonese accented.

u think i can learn both Madarine & Cantonese?
Oh yes. They're after all part of the same language, with some variation in tone and pronunciation, and slightly different vocabularies. Knowing one makes it very easy to learn the other. The reason why I suggest learning Mandarin for a foundation is because it's more widely used.

i also felt bad 4 her in "something something Verdant Bow" (can't think of title at the moment & it's making me mad). such a sad series.
It's "Lofty Water Verdant Bow". I felt that Michelle did her best performance in there.

Hmm, it seems like my recent posts have been digressing helluva far from the topic of this thread. Time to rein back...

When I was younger I used to love watching tv series after school but since graduating from high school I havn't watch much of it, maybe two to three series max. a year.

Now, I still don't watch that much series but my sister wanted me to download these series for her and sometimes out of boredom I'll watch the movies I downloaded.

I never really care for any of the hk actors, not because they can't act or anything, but because like Arashi, I hardly ever watch hk dramas anymore. But I have to say, Jessica really made be obsessed with her and the movie Lady Fan.

It's not the best movie but certainly not the worst. As for ASIT, I hated Sonjia so much because she stole Louis' heart and left none for jessica. Even now I don't know if Louis just married Jessica because she got raped or because he really did love her.

During watching the show, I found myself cursing Sonjia and rooting for Jessica. However, I didn't watch the middle because it talk about Michelle and Sonjia.

That movie still pissed me off.

Louis really did love Jessica b/c he said he wanted 2 go find her when all of this trouble is over. & then he was so happy when he saw her again on that boat. when Louis was floating almost dead in the water cuz he got shot by an arrow & Jessica & Joyce was looking at the waters, i'm just like "oooohhhh comon comon comon SEE Louis SEE HIM!!" then when they saw him "AHHHH hahahaha hehe they saw him!". that part where he tangoed w/ Jessica was so cute. yeah i hated Sonja & Michelle Saram in ASITP too. i still h8 Michelle (never liked her at all) but Sonja's OK now.

hahahaha..... Not so much a shocked face, just an expressionless face. But, yeah, they are eerily similar after seeing the series. They look almost alike. I agree, the sister relationship was more believeable than the other scenes.

I'm assuming Jessica's diction is better because she was still learning back then, so you have to be precise. If I'm not mistaken, that was what I read back in 2002 about her Mandarin.

Oh dear, I haven't been here for two days and look at all these posts. As for me, I haven't seen like half of Jessica's series, but to the ones that I've seen, I usually own them as well.

To JessCC --> Thx for the brief summary of Happy Harmony. If you don't mind (and if you still remember) can you share what 'Class of Distinction' is all about? My cable provider only shows Mandarin dubbed versions...w/o subs , but at least I'm able to see a few of Jessica's series that I can't seem to find in any of my rental stores or even in the Chinatown.

Can you also share about these 2 series, briefly? I can't seem to find any review about these series and even if there are, they're in Chinese and I can't read Chinese, yet.....have been learning Mandarin for almost 3 months now and just starting to get into the characters. And about 'Where is My Love', is it good? Happy ending? If it is, I might consider buying the VCDs online.

He..he..anything I can provide, I will. In addition, it is a quite memorable serie, give it a try.

As for ASITP, I'm not too fond of it either since there are a lot of 'unnecessary' scenes involving Michelle and Sonija, although I don't have anything against their looks, just the acting which makes me feel like them.

I'm busy d/l-ing these clips as we speak. Haven't touched my laptop for 2 days, I had a rather long weekend (Sat-Sun-Mon) and was enjoying myself.
Babygurl, I'm learning Mandarin and it's really amusing and like Arashi said, it's widely used and I think it's like the Chinese int'l language. However, I have a difficult time practising coz not a single one of my family member can speak the language, and not any of them share my likings of watching Chinese series either, well my dad watches it with me from time to time but that's only because I'm dominating the TV he..he..

Aaagh, this is my wish too. I play her Thailand interview over and over again coz I just love to hear her real voice and speaking in a language I can actually comprehend.

I'm neutral towards Michelle Yip but I agree that her sister role with Jessica in GF was nice. I'm currently watching LWVB and she's okay.

In Golden Faith, some of my favourite scenes involve Jessica and Michelle. Like the one where after Michelle booked Gallen, while Jessica's going to buy a Cheesecake, for parking in a no standing zone, Jessica says were sisters can't you let it go for your own sister and Michelle booked him anyway. Then when they get home, Michelle eats the cheesecake. I like the bit when Jessica shoves the cake into Michelle's mouth. They were both so cute. I think that Michelle probably didn't act her best in Golden Faith, but then again there wasn't much to her character. But she was so cute in Eternal Happiness, a very enjoyable series. Also in LWVB, Michelle character was the most interesting, if it wasn't for her, the series would have been so boring. Rain Li was so annoying.

As for ASITP, I don't like both Michelle and Sonija, but i'd choose Michelle over Sonija because she was smart, she died! I can't stand the sight of Sonija, I wished she died in that Chemical bomb thing. When I watch ASITP now, I just watch the first three tapes and the last two tapes. Skipping any scenes with Sonija.
Jessica Hsuan + Louis Koo = Amazing Chemistry!

Aiyoh! You want me to talk about Class of Distinction? Hmm..... *scratching her head* Frankly speaking, I can't quite remember anymore. Uhm, I think Jessica was a teacher in a school and Leon was this new teacher and he was given the worst class to take care of (typical!) and through trials and tribulations, Jessica helped Leon and falls for him BUT, if I remembered correctly, they didn't end up together because he fell for someone else instead. If someone else has a better memory, please help belki and me!

Oh, "Old Time Buddy" has been one of my favourites since I first saw it. "Game of Deceit" was funny, but not QUITE as memorable. "DIF4" was something of an epic for me, loved the relationship, HATED the ending! "Golden Faith" and "Square Pegs" (obviously!) are added to the list.

The story for "Where Is My Love" goes like Gallen and Jessica are happily married, but one day, Gallen gets into a 1-night stand, and Jessica finds out about it and wants a divorce. The rest of the show has Gallen doing his best to win her back because he truely loves her. This is the Chinese synopsis that I read. I haven't seen this series myself and I'm currently d/ling it. I heard it isn't very good, but I can tell you the ending once I finish it.

In "A Good Match Made in Heaven", Jessica plays a matchmaking fairy "Hong Neung". One day, she messes up and causes 2 people, Deric Wan and Amy Kwok who are destined to marry to never like each other. To redeem her mistake, Jessica goes down to earth to pair them up. However, she finds herself falling for Deric instead. In the end, Jessica gives up Deric to Amy and sacrifices herself to become the 'red thread' that ties them up. This is one of Jessica's earliest series and she looks very cute in her 'maiden' ancient costume. Her modern hairstyle looks kinda weird tho. It's a very old series so I'm not sure you can find it anywhere. The version I watched was in Mandarin and very bad in quality.

The girl I like the most in ASITP isn't Jessica, Sonija or Michelle (ugh, I feel ashamed that she's my fellow countrywoman), but Joyce Tang. Joyce did the most for Louis imo, and didn't even get to be with him at the end. Personally, I feel that Louis never loved any of the women in there. He liked Sonija because she looked like his old girlfriend, he acknowledged Michelle as his wife because she sacrificed so much for him, and he felt guilt-ridden because he was partially responsible for Jessica being raped.

I don't really like Old Time Buddies because it's so comically exaggerated and generally I can't stand the swinging 60s era.

I also think that one of the reasons why Jessica is so successful in her career is because she has a lot of chemistry with her co-stars. She pairs off very well with lots of male leads compared to other actresses like Maggie Cheung who is imo a good actress but doesn't look good with a lot of her male co-stars. I was thinking that pairing Roger with Jessica in Square Pegs would be a bad idea since Jessica looks older than Roger but it worked surprisingly well. I like Game of Deceit, but for once, I felt that there wasn't much chemistry between Jessica and Nick. Maybe it's because Nick is so much shorter than Jessica and whenever I see them together, I feel like laughing.

Hmm, my fav scenes with Jessica and Michelle in GF would be the ones where they fought for the chicken drumstick and the part where they were sharing ice-cream and Michelle said her dream lover got abducted by aliens, haha. Their scenes are very spontaneous, so much so I suspect they're playing themselves. I wonder how's Michelle and Jessica's relationship in real life?

Uhm, which Michelle now? Saram? She's from Singapore? I don't know about "ASITP" but she was miserable in "ATE2". Ugh! Sorry, can't help but put my two cents in there. If Josie Ho was not there to lighten it up a bit, I would have personally "killed" her character! hahaha.....

You know, now that you've mentioned it, of all the series that I've seen so far of Jessica's, I think Nick would take the cake for not having enough chemistry with Jessica. Maybe it's the height, or maybe he looks too boyish. I don't know. Jessica happens to pair better with MAN-ish actors! hahaha..... But then again, her character ending up with Francis was horrible too! Ugh!

OK, 'dream lover got captured by aliens'? Huh? OK, how did THAT not get registered into my "memorable Jessica scenes" bank? Could it be the subtitles not doing their job well? hahaha..... When did that happen?

Sorry for the confusion. It's Michelle Saram in ASITP and Michelle Yip in GF. Yeah, Michelle Saram is a Singaporean of mix Chinese/Indian parentage. Which is why she's such a bad miscast in the role of a Chinese princess, ugh. She's horrible in every series I've seen her, ASITP, ATE2, Meteor Garden 2 and this 1 Singapore series, and she was my schoolmate too...

I think it's in episode 15 after Deric confesses his love for Jessica, and later in the day, Michelle tries to talk Jessica into accepting Deric. Jessica gets exasperated and asks Michelle what kind of guy does she herself really likes and then wonders if her dream guy is even human in the first place. Michelle retorts that her dream lover got abducted by aliens recently, and she'd introduce him once he gets back, hahaha.

Yeah, her character was very well written in DIF4, not your stereotypical strong or weak girl at all. And ooo, she's got soooo much chemistry with Louis Koo. Sadly, I felt that their relationship was doomed from the start, because he's so hung up over Anne Heung, bleh. Square Pegs was really cool, because it's got the trappings of a tragedy at the beginning but Jessica's Choi Fung cleverly twists everything. I was disappointed with Lady Fan, but I think there's still hope for Jessica and Joe Ma in their new series "Family of Five". Jessica and Joe are always wearing similiar clothing in there, what you'd call "qing liu chuang" or lovers' outfit and it'd be so fun to see them play parents to so many kids.

the best Jessica series ever is hands down, no doubt about it, 100%+eternity , absolutely, positively DETECTIVE INVESTIGATION FILES IV!!! even though the ending sucked and the crime scenes were somewhat boring, i still loved the series & i'm sure all of us agree it's 1 of her best out there. not only Jessica's best but 1 of the best series in TVB. unfortunately i knew the ending b4 i watched the series but it was still sooooo good.

Michelle Saram is really really really bad at acting. i actually laughed when that girl liked her in ATE II. i h8ed er so much in that series. then when i saw her again in ASITP i almost puked. ur rite, she did do the smart thing in ASITP & died! don't u think it wud've been good if Louis went back 2 the present again and Sonja's still married but there's still a single Jessica? they cud've made a ASITP II! i felt sry 4 Joyce 2. wished Louis married her & Jessica instead of Sonja. but i still think Jessica suffered the most 4 Louis & Joyce is in 2nd place. Sonja & Michelle barely did n/ething. there's nothing wrong w/ Sonja's real self, just didn't like her in ASITP.

Michelle Yip still has room 2 improve in her acting but she's still not that bad. her character saved LWVB cuz it was so interesting. it wasn't an excellent performance but i'll give her a B+++

the 2 series that i haven't seen & really mad cuz i haven't seen them r Old Time Buddy & Game of Deceit. (very angry)

Jessica has such good chemistry w/ her costars. & she's so lovable every1's her friend. not so sure about her friendship w/ Maggie cuz of all the rumors. in the movie world they actually call her "the OTHER Maggie" cuz she's not as famous as Maggie Cheung Man Ngoc (Man Hok in canto?). Man Ngoc's much friendlier than what this Maggie seems 2b. maybe the rumors rn't true, who knows?

In DIF4, her character, performance, chemistry, appearance -- basically everything about her and related to her excluding the ending -- is fabulous. As for Lady Fan, I haven't watched it in full but from the scenes I've seen and the spoilers I read...it's nothing compare to the original one. I'm not condemning Jessica's performance coz it's mostly about the script and how the story is delivered, but, Jess' character in there is...uhm...*hesitating*...I mean, customary to other characters she's been playing. In other words, it's going a bit fusty (eventhough it's the Jessica I love to see). I'm still glad she has lots of screen time in this serie and I can't wait to get my hands on the DVD with English subs.

Btw Arashi, I marvel at your review on this serie, it's honest and I consider very objective. I'm looking forward for Family of Five too, hope her role is something 'fresh'.

Which is why she's such a bad miscast in the role of a Chinese princess, ugh. She's horrible in every series I've seen her, ASITP, ATE2, Meteor Garden 2 and this 1 Singapore series, and she was my schoolmate too...
Schoolmate? She was your schoolmate? And you didn't have the decency to tell her that she shouldn't act? LOL! Just kidding!

Hmm..... I remember this scene, just not the alien part. I guess the subtitles didn't do its job well. Oh well, guess I'll have to brush up on MORE Cantonese words!
