The battle for the Best Actress Award has heated up with Jessica Hsuan and Melissa Ng added to the fray.

Over a hundred TVB artists attended the 2006 TVB Sales Presentation last night, and the battle between Lisa, Kenix and Gigi was brought from off the stage to on the stage. Lisa’s position as the no. 1 female artist was solidified as she stood solidly in the center of the stage with Adam Cheng. Surprisingly, Jessica Hsuan and Melissa Ng came from nowhere to flank Lisa and Adam, whereas hot favourites Kenix and Gigi had to stand by the side.

At the end of the programme, the artists came forward to stand on the stage, and their positioning on the stage was generally indicative of their standing in the company. Lisa and Adam were in the center, flanked by Jessica and Melissa. They in turn were flanked by Bowie Lam and Joe Ma. Kenix and Gigi were next. Gossip-plagued Sonja Kwok who has been unlucky in love managed to salvage her career though, coming in at the 7th position. The same went for Leung Wing Chung who also made it to the front row. Others in the front included Ron Ng, Bernice Liu, Tavia Yeung, Kevin Cheng and Linda Chung.

On Lisa’s standing next to him on the stage, Adam said that both of them had the honour only because of their relative larger experience; other than that, there was nothing special about their positioning. On the 150-episode Tale of Two Cities that will be next year’s mega production, Adam said that he was happy to have the opportunity to act in it, although currently his schedule for 2006 is jam-packed.

On Jessica’s and Melissa’s elevation in status, Jessica and Melissa both said that they had just followed the company’s instructions and stood where they were told to stand. Jessica last won the Best Actress Award with her performance in the 1999 Detective Investigative Files IV. When asked if she might break her 7-year jinx, she laughed and said that there was no need to compete. Journalists told her that this year’s trophy would come embedded with diamonds, she laughed and said that her old trophy was quite stunning as well.

On the ongoing fray for the Best Actress Award, Jessica said that she did not know the details. She said that as long as they had confidence in themselves, the audience would vote for them if they liked their roles.

Melissa said that she was very happy to be standing next to Adam as he took good care of her that night. As to whether she felt she had cemented her position in the company, she said, “I still feel that I have a lot of room for improvement, but nonetheless, I am happy to be groomed by my company. I won’t give myself too much pressure, because it’s best not to think too much while learning. So, if I do win a prize, it would be a bonus, but if I don’t, I will continue to perform the best that I can.”

It'd be so cool if Jessica nabbed the Best Actress Award this year.. like the article said, Jessica surprised everyone by standing right beside Lisa, almost dead centre. Since Jessica is so down low, reporters are focusing more on Kenix, Gigi, and Lisa, so people are expecting one of them to receive the Best Actress Award. It would be an even bigger surprise to have Jessica win it this year. BAHAHA! BAM right in their face and they wouldn't even know what came at them. =D

I can't wait to see it! So anxious, yet excited just to see Jessica again! wootwoots!

wouldn't it be great if Lisa got that one award Sheren got in the last 2 years & Jessica ends her 7-year streak? and the winner is.........k-k-k-k-k SUEN HSUEN!!!!! sorry Kenix, it's not u. imagine the shock on everyone's faces. but i wouldn't mind if Kenix wins cuz i'm sure her role in RDOV was pretty good. but this diehard fan wishes that Jessica wins every year no matter what.

speaking of War of Beauty, i thought Maggie should've won for that role instead of the one in King of Yesterday. though Sheren Tang's was the best character in that whole series. she was so evil. i think i have something for the evil people

it would've been more competition for Jessica's Lo Por Jai character if War of Beauty was shown on the same year. that's why i was so mad when Jessica didn't win for SP. there was absolutely no competition that year........oh jeez lets hope no other fans get on my back about this comment.

I keep getting Maggie and Gigi confused for winning last year's Best Actress Award. I always think that Maggie won last year, but she didn't! I thought she would have won because of War and Beauty but it was Gigi that won! HAHA! Silly ol' me. I really really thought Jessica would win for Golden Faith and Square Pegs. But I guess everyone else thought differently. Honestly, it doesn't really matter to me if Jessica doesn't win EVERY year, but those two roles were GOLD. She just deserved to win for those years. What was Jessica up against last year? Was she even nominated? I forgot.

What is this big hype about Gigi "winning" again this year? What series was she in this year that made her so credible? Or was it because she won last year and people just like her more now. =_=''

I had a dream two nights ago. And Jessica was in it! She was taking care of Ah Wong and working hard at the same time. Very similar to Life Made Simple. LOL! That just shows how much I miss seeing her! =)

have fun in HK fatlouie. i've never been there so i wouldn't know where u can find VCDs & DVDs. i'm pretty sure there's a bunch out there though, just ask around. i know that when i go to Canada there's a video/music store every 10 steps u take so i can't even imagine how many there are in HK.

yeah i agree. Jessica deserved to win for those 2 roles the most. last year she was nominated for Lady Fan & was up against the War & Beauty ladies. i wasn't as hopeful for her last year as i was for GF & SP.

i really hope that LMS kicks up & gets as interesting as SP. then Jess can snatch the award w/o getting crap from other fans. u know, something like "she didn't deserve it, LMS sucked, blah blah blah". wasn't it just last year when ppl were complaining cuz Jessica's online fans were showing fans from other countries how to vote so she would win? they were saying how it's unfair & everything. otherwise, i have a feeling Kenix will win this year. she hasn't won anything for a while.

People always think of the stupidest excuses when someone other than their favorite idol wins. I know, cuz I do it too. HEHE! And I guess it's even harder for Jessica because she has been around for so long and has much more experience.. so people expect more from her than the others.

Oh yeah! Last year was all about War and Beauty. That was apparently THE series of the year in Hong Kong. This year I'm hoping it'll be Life Made Simple, but it's kinda weird how it'll be put in the nomination list even though it hasn't finished airing yet. It's a little more difficult to judge whether it's a good series or not (esp. for people who are just watching for the show and not for the cast members itself). People will most likely remember the series more if they really enjoyed it and knew how it ended. Another "big" production would probably be Revolving Doors of Vengence. I watched a few episodes of that while I was in Hong Kong. It's not bad. It's almost like a twist of Golden Faith. I'm not sure about the ratings though, but from my preliminary readings from the forums, I don't think it did as well as Life Made Simple (even as of now).

But just two words:

I think this will be another one of those, "I'm only watching for Jessica" series. The cast does not look too promising. No real strong leads except Jessica, and perhaps Lisa? I THINK she's supposed to be in this. I'm guessing Ron Ng is going to be one of the male leads this time around. Still waiting to hear who's going to be paired up with Jessica. I can't believe Louis turned it down!! It would have been the perfect opportunity for them to work together again. And I bet they will both get the Best Actress and Actor award then. Or at least Best Couple award. They better find someone good and suitable to match Jessica. Hopefully no newbie please. (just because they want to promote the newbies more and use Jessica as a boost for them.. sheesh!)

Oh....juz saw the schedule...don't think I could make it to any of them except the tvb anniversary show which I dunno if I could go...sigh... Will only be @ HK on the 18th.... Do you guys know if they will show the anniversary show live in HK? if so, which channel will it b & what time?

It should be on the Jade Channel, there aren't many TVB channels... i bet you'll find it. AHH how happy i was when i was in HK and China(Guangzhou) watching TVB series....hehe

I'm taping it for sure, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to make an extra copy of it, unless I tape it twice at different times. (In Vancouver, if you have cable or satellite, you can watch the Toronto Fairchild channels during Eastern time, and then there is also the Vancouver Fairchild channel in Pacific time, so this way I can watch things twice if I needed to.) Since it's airing at 9:40pm Pacific, it means it'll probably be airing at 6:40pm Eastern and end at 9pm. But this means I'll be hogging the tv for the whole night. ;p Unless if there's a re-run of it.

Does anyone know how I can make an extra copy without having to tape it twice? I wonder how people upload stuff onto the computer... so it'll be easier just to download it. I'm sure Vicky will have clips up with Jessica's part from her website or on the bravenet forum.

I was listening to the radio interview with Joe Ma asking Jessica about the Best Actress Award for this year... and she said that she's worried about next year because she won't have any series out. That sucks. I wonder if her position will be shifted, so instead of her standing in the "middle", she'll be on the side of something because she won't be as important next year. Noooooo.... =(
