How did she die? I heard that she got killed by someone. Yammie is a great actress and have been one of my favorites since the 80s. Some people think that she can't act and is a wooden doll, but that is their opinion. I am glad to hear that she gave a great performance in this series. I hope that she will get better and continue to be in more productions.

    *SPOILER WARNING*

She was "forced" to hang herself by her own husband, the eunuch after he found out she was pregnant with Benny's child. After she was found dead by the SUen family, the eunuch said she commited suicide. It is very, very sad and they did not bother to have a proper burial on her body and the servants just dumped her in the middle of nowhere.

And her husband tormented her with frequent beatings as well. They left her body out to be torn apart by wild dogs. It was very disturbing.

Thanks for the spoilers! I really like spoilers regardless of whether I will watch a series or not. Poor Yammie!! It is bad enough that she is married to a eunuch, but she still has to suffer because of him. What an evil guy!!! I hope he will get the ending that he deserves. It is wierd how Yammie is once again in a good modern series as only a guest star. She was also in Looking Back in Anger as a guest star. She was hanged in there too.... Is it a coincidence???

Was she really pregneant with Benny's child??? Or did someone frame her?

Yes, it is Benny's child. That is one of the revenge Benny wanted to take towards the ending of the series on the Suen family on the eunuch (Yammie's husband) because he killed Benny's child and the woman he loved very much besides Amy.

I never like the actor who played the eunuch. Even when he was with TVB, he always played the evil or bad guy. Maybe he is good on such character.

Did you see the part where Benny told Amy that Yammie was his No 1. Love and Amy is only his 2nd Love. Wow...Benny really loves Yammie so so much!

Yes, I did. I'm done watching this series a few weeks ago. Benny felt sorry for Yammie coz she married an eunuch and wanted to give her happiness in her life. But.... Amy is his 2nd woman he ever love after Yammie.

I never liked his style of acting, good guy or bad guy, but ironically, he is one of the teacher's at TVB's acting academy. So glad that none of the graduates picked up hsi style of acting!

Think he taught chinese opera, while Chung King Fai taught emotions + drama.

oh so that is Benny's child... Which Benny are you guys talking about? Benny Chan Chi Pang or the other one? What did he do to get revenge on the family? what happened to the evil eunuch in the end? I don't mind spoilers since I may not see this series. The one that plays the eunuch played guo jing's first master in LOCH 83 from TVB. He is considered a "veteran" actor...

I saw the Cantonese version and was wondering if the story is much elaborate in the Mandarin version. The Cantonese version ended at Tape 18 (Episode 36) but I saw a few people renting Tape 19 of the Mandarin version. Anyone knows anything about it?

And I also noticed a lot of scenes which doesn't seems to connect when one episode ends and the other begin. Perhaps the Cantonese version has been heavily edited?

    After seeing the ending...

I was surprised that Steven was burned so badly. At least he did not die and could be looked after by his wife.

I thought that Benny in the end would take his father's name BUT did not. I think he did the right thing. Being in this kind of family...in Benny's words would dirty him more even though he does not deny that he is #2 son.

I was also surprised to see Ying Goo Benny's aunt did not die BUT Koo Sook die.

The ending was still sweet though ... Amy did not mind Steven being scarred. Adding you see them holding hand in hand with each other till the end.

You finally done watching this series huh?

I also like the ending when Amy & Steve walk hand in hand after she found him "hiding" at the hut they first "met".

Ying Goo died of old age. It was mentioned on the last episode. But I wasn't clear what happened to Benny. Did he serve the country in the end after he killed his father & 2 lai-lai? I tot I heard from 2 of his former side-kick when they told Amy in the old house during the war.

Steve got burned when the Japanese blasted a bomb and he tried to protect his son from getting killed.

When I get some free time, I'll re-watch this series again.

I've seen a couple more episodes. I'm at the part where Miss 9th is locked up for wanting to have a divorce from her husband. It's really good again! Thank goodness the plot picked up. Although there are still a few slow points here and there, it's not as draggy as I felt last time I posted.

I thought the episodes where Ma Su went with Steve, Amy, and her son to visit his hometown and bond with his mother (her death was of course very sad) is so touching! It was so sweet when Ma Su really started to connect with her and tried hard to bond with the village. She really loves Steve and I'm really happy they're a "loving" couple now. Unfortunately for her, Steve doesn't love her as much as she loves him. Her character has gotten so cute and really knows how to think for herself and be considerate of others.

Surprisingly, I've grown to really sympathize and enjoy Miss 9th's character. She is quite pretty. Now I understand why she acted the way she did when she was younger (sleeping around, acting wildy, smoking, etc). It's really sad how she says, "I know my life is decided and I have no choice. Yes, I did "pick" my husband, but did I really pick him?" I feel so sad how she can't get a divorce simply because it will ruin the family's name. No one understands her and she's not happy at all. I feel so bad how she's wrongfully judged and misunderstood. Also, her parents can't even lecture her and don't seem to care about her.

I thought when Amy said, "What if the situation was opposite?" (in regards to Ma Su/Miss 9th) I think that's so true. If Ma Su wanted to divorce, I'm sure she would have gotten it just because she's 2nd mistress' (in regards to her character, I still like her. However I feel sometimes she's a bit unreasonable with how much she stresses on the importance of the FAMILY name and not the individual. I totally understand how she has to do this because the family is so rich and powerful and all, but still...) daughter. Anyways, I wonder how this divorce plot will be solved. It's really interesting because during this time women either committed suicide or suffered until death if they married the wrong husband.

I really like Miss 9th with Steve's brother. They are so cute! I loved the scene where she goes to his village and he teaches her how to relieve her sadness and listen to nature to calm down. I really hope they get together! She seemed so happy when she was in the village. Sometimes, living simply and poorly is better than living a fast-pace, complicated, and rich city life.

I think Mr & Mrs. 9th and Mr. & Mrs. 3rd really love each other. I thought the part where the two wives thought their husbands were cheating/gambling was humorous. The confrontation between Mr. 3rd and his wife was so powerful about how she calls him useless and how he declares perhaps he was the one who married the wrong wife. Although they constantly bicker, you can tell they both love each other a lot. I'm growing to like everyone a lot more. Even first master (the eunuch) isn't quite annoying anymore. It was nice how he bonded so well with Steve's son (and daughter).

The scenes during the Lantern Festival are really good. The couple scenes were compassionate and touching. I find all of them really loving.

Benny's character is interesting. I'm a bit confused though. So is he the son of 2nd master and a maid? If so, how did he know?! I'm really curious how his revenge plot will go. Amy and Steve's relationship seems to have gone to the back-burner at this point of the storyline. I have around 6 more hours to go, hope the ending is good cause so far I'm still loving this series

Hehe, MetalAZNWarrior, glad you're picking it up again. Personally, I find Benny's character to be the most interesting. He did well in here with all the subtle expressions and gestures.

bubcas and om369, I think Benny did end up taking up the Suen family after he killed his dad and the wife. Yeah, his sidekicked kind of mentioned it. I mean, it could only be Benny. Which male is left in the Suen family other than Benny? Also, just before the war started, when his 2 sidekick suggested to run over to HK, Benny chosed to stay behind and kind of said he'll defend his 'territory' (country). This goes back to a conversation he had with Amy or Aunt Kiew (can't remember), I think.. about why he's like what he is.... defending his territory.

Well, that's how I concluded Benny went to war under the 'Suen' name.

Wow, I have around 4 more hours to go and it's really really good!

First of all, I wanted to say I pitied Ms. 9th a lot. Argh, my hatred of the eunuch rose again. He's so evil. I can't believe stuff like that actually happened in the emperial palace in ancient times. It's so sad how she was locked up, had no food, and no sunlight. She didn't even do anything wrong. It's really sad how no one stood up to help her too.

I loved the scene where Steve's brother met her outside and said he had a salted egg for her and he would wait for her to come out and eat it. It's so touching. They are really cute. The part at the hotel was nice too when he cooked her porridge. I thought she would be with him, but too bad she left Hopefully this couple will have a good ending. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they'll be together in the end.

I'm so relieved that Amy found out the truth now! Her crying is so natural. The scene where she re-read her letters to her kids was so powerful and tragic. "I wanted to buy you this for your birthday this year, and the owner said he could put your names on it, but... I don't know what your names are..." then she broke out crying. The situation is hard on her. If she tells, nothing will happen. Everything will just be ruined and there'll be a big mess. But if she doesn't..... it's a lose-lose situation basically.

I really hope Ma Su doesn't commit suicide like in the dream Amy had. That would be really sad. I know she dies cause in the beginning Steve said, "When she died, she told me she was very scared...", but I hope it's a different reason (her death). I've grown to really like her and it's obvious she cares about Steve and her son very much. I want Steve to be with Amy, but I feel sympathetic for Ma Su's character. *sigh* I know Benny loves Amy, but the love just isn't recipricol. Amy only accepted his proposal because she didn't want to be tempted to tell Steve the truth and ruin everyone's happiness.

There are times when I pity 2nd mistress for everything she has to do to maintain the family. I feel bad that she's getting tricked by her own relatives. But then, I disliked her for being so cold and not appealing to human emotions. She acts according to the benefit of the family name - not herself, not the individual, and certainly not the family, just its name. It's sad that her only hope lies on Steve's son. She has no one to talk to and no one to share her pain. Even her husband remembers another woman and she just thinks he doesn't remember her name. By the way, I think she and her husband are so loving. I really like his character. He's so funny and he's more informed and smarter than most people think. I love his lines.

Benny's plan to overthrow the family is coming into play and about to succeed! I'm anxious to discover about his past. Hopefully the ending will be exciting, touching, and dramatic. I can't wait to watch the remaining episodes
