whats wrong with Maggie Q?? shes a capable actress...

capability doesnt even come close to describe Maggie Q for this production. What's make people cringe upon looking at the cast is the bloody face. does Maggie Q comes across as chinese to you? you can describe anything of Maggie, but she's definitely NOT chinese. it is a total miscast when she's supposed to be a chinese warrior/princess

There wasn't much to her character which is why there wasn't much to cringe about. As far as I'm concerned, the only roles she's ok in are the 'sexy kick a$$' types since all it requires is for her to squint her eyes to look sexy/cool (perhaps evil at times), dress in something revealing or body hugging and take on battles.
She's not bad in action, I'll give her that -she seems to be quite athletic. However, she can't express any complex emotions to save her life.

Naked Weapon, right? That movie was sooo bad! I actually bought the dvd after a very positive review from a guy friend. I literally threw the dvd at him.

Hehe I was actually referring to MI3 but yeah Naked Weapon was indeed terrible lol. Your guy friend probably enjoyed it for the action chicks wearing skimpy clothes
Must I mention that Daniel Wu's acting was also incredibly bad in that movie LOL.

Hey guys, I just read some article in which Bey Logan (that guy who always does special features on HK movies) says that Maggie Q can speak both Cantonese and Mandarin.

Now I'm a bit confused because from what I remember in MI3, her Cantonese was horrendous! But then again, she MUST (or SHOULD) know some considering she's worked in HK for so many years...Bey also said she took both Mandarin and Canto lessons for a few years now..

I'm really interested in seeing her speak (without getting dubbed!) in Three Kingdoms. Let's see how she pulls it off...
Btw, I also hear that Bey Logan is her best friend so I'm not sure whether he's covering up her lacking linguistic abilities or not...

Synopsis
Jo Ja Ryong became a soldier when big china was divided into many counties by an internal war

You know, musical instruments are popular weapons in related games. Maybe that's where they got this idea from.

As for Sammo... well, even the soldiers doesn't look Chinese anymore. Look at those fur coats and breastplates! The fur coats made them looks like they are Mongolians, Khitans, Jurchens etc. while the breastplates looks very Japanese. The helmets are Mongolian too!

Yeah, you're exactly right. The costumes/armour/etc don't look Han Chinese AT ALL. Although the director said the clothing depicted Chinese history accurately...honestly, they look alot like the so-callled 'northern Barbarian tribes' (like the Khitans, etc you described).
I really can't wait to see how well this film pulls off 'authenticity'.
