    Default Match Point

    Hi

Did anyone watch this movie from 1995? It stars Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Scarlett Johansson. If you did, I will like to hear your thoughts about the ending...how do you read it? I was not too sure what the ending's about or suggests...would love to hear your take. thanks!

Yes, I watched it on DVD! I thought the movie plot was considerably predictable. The ending part didn't do justice, I feel.

I think the ending was unexpected and a bit rushed. I thought he was going to get caught by the police and/or the wife's family.

I didn't like the police investigation part when the police didn't get more suspicious about his lying or when he requested to the police not to tell his wife.

When I read your post, I was like "WHAT?!? This movie is already 14 years old? No way! How time flies." Fortunately, this movie is really only 4 years old thank goodness. For awhile there, I thought that my life had passed by me without me being aware of it, like my life was almost over. Few, it was only a mistake.

The movie took hands off approach with moralizing. It wasn't its purpose to depict what is right or wrong.

It is a story about luck and how big a role it can play in your life.

    ^ agree

The whole beginning talks about a situation where it is 100% luck (the tennis ball hitting the net), and the ending essentially replicates that with the jewelery hitting the railing.

I'm guessing Woody Allen wanted to direct something different than other comedies, and since few movies talk about luck and the role it plays, what better way to do it than weave the theme into the plot of Crime and Punishment.

Even bad guys get lucky o.o
