i recommend Zonealarm Internet Security. However, you'll have to pay for it (or if u know how to get a free five-fingered discount version)

my laptop is really old and crappy, and i was wondering if there's anything i can do to reverse the ravages of time.
for some reason, it can't find all my ram. O_o it's currently running xp, but someone told me it's not powerful enough to run that, and i should downgrade to 98. vista is out, and i gotta use 98. -_-
i asked ppl for help before, and they told me to make something fat32, and then someone else told me that was bad, and to wipe it. i haven't bc i've formatted the hard drive like 5 times and i'm sick of doing that.
my main problem with it is that it's crazy slow. it'll take almost 20 minutes to start up and 10 minutes to shut down. and if i run too many programs at once, it'll just shut down.
this is the advice i've received:
- buy a new computer
- send it to sweden to have a friend fix it
- wipe it and start fresh with 98 (again)
- prostitute myself out for IT help
maybe i should stop downloading so much p.....nevermind.
nytimes: Every hr you have 10 minutes where you’re not doing anything productive at work, & you can’t look at porn. So you make a comment & fulfill this desire to show yourself off as a smarty-pants.
that is very good advice. very wise of that person to suggest that Windows 98 uses less resources than Windows XP.
your trying to teach an old dog new tricks! it's just not possible to get any performance out of your laptop.
Windows is very resource intensive. it requires a lot components to operate efficiently like having adequate CPU, Video, RAM and Hard Disk to performance its tasks.
The most effective way to increase performance is to upgrade the memory (RAM). if you have insufficient RAM, Windows uses your hard disk as temporary memory storage and the process of swapping data from RAM to hard disk is very slow. Say you run program X, Windows has to allocate RAM to accommodate the program X. If it doesn't have enough RAM, it will swap idle programs to Hard Disk and load Program X into RAM. Now if you switch to some idle program, then Windows will swap back the idle program memory stored on disk back to RAM. So as you can see, a lot of disk activities can slow your computer down.
Now perhaps if you curb your retail therapy spending on non essential items like LV bags, you might have enough to get a new laptop. You don't need to prostitute yourself
what kinda help thread is this 2 pages and my question still hasn't been answered
