^Really, and it is spelled as Temasek by the way.
Singapore was known as Singapura from around 14th century onwards. So yeah, if PoC takes place around 1720, then the country should be known as Singapura.

I didn't get a chance to watch the second installment, will probably try to watch it before the third one comes out. Chow Yun Fatt's "Welcome to Singapore" piqued my interest.

do you think they did research before doing this? i mean, in POC2 there's this East India Trading Company insignia on Lord mercer's small box where he kept the agreement guaranteeing Jack Sparrow's life upon capture, and i dont think ive seen that insignia thruout my history lesson....

however, they might have used singapore cuz it's easier to the tongue...... or maybe they just dont give a damn, it is disney movie after all.....

I think that's a likely reason too. It's really not difficult for them to find the info.

    That's not the point.

Very few people would recognize the East India Company seal but people ( though very few Americans) would recognize Singapore instead of the other names

we're talking bout history accuracy, im just pointing out the other historical blooper that i found......if they want to stick to the actual history there should be no stopping them from doing so......even if they used Singapura, people who recognizes Singapore would definitely be able to make the connections....it's just a two vowel difference anyway......im sure the audience isnt that stupid

You'll be surprised at how stupid the general audience is.

I can understand why some of you guys are mad over the historical inaccuracies, but I suspect that the script writer might have called the island "Singapore" because not too many people are familiar with the whole history of the island, and would be confused if it was referred to as "Singapura". Not to mention, the comic effect would not have been as great.

Anyway, I'm actually REALLY looking forward to the 3rd installment. I was excited about it ever since I saw the 2nd one (can't believe some of you guys didn't enjoy it ). I'm excited to see who Elizabeth chooses to be with in the end, though I know it's most likely going to be Will.

But only 2 more weeks to find out!

i guess they hate it because of its cliff hanger ending. man that totally killed the story b/c yu have to wait a year fot the continuation. but i felt that PoC2 had more action and story plot.

Most Americans aren't familiar with Singapore either.
