Default SPCNET A Capella - Final Round

Welcome to the final round of the SPCNET Singing Competition!

0-0-0: SPCNET seems to have been down while I was planning to post the final polls So NetDriftr has kindly offered to post them while I get my beauty sleep.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, one member has withdrawn from the background music division, so there will only be three entries. Congratulations to these finalists and a big thank you to everyone that participated.

The rules for this round are simple: vote for your favourite entry!

The restrictions applied in round 1 will be maintained for the finals. That is, voters registered after April 2007 will not be eligible to vote, neither will members with 20 posts. Those pending 20 posts may leave a message here and at the end of the voting period, they may be eligible. Similarly, clones created during the Actress Battle Royale will not be acceptable, and I assure you that I recognise every single one of those names having entered the entire list into a database.

Thanks must go to spcnet, who is generously sponsoring the competition. Vouchers for yesasia will be awarded to the winner/s.

Also, I must concede that NetDriftr has been a great help in running the competition with his unrivalled professionalism, ability to spark debate and most importantly, hosting the website which certainly beats having to download from megaupload or sendspace.

I have been accused of making this final round too "idol" like, BUT I think it's great for members to comment on the songs they chose and "speak to the voters."

Also, I am still in denial about the anonymity of this competition. Humour me by pretending that you have no idea who is who

You may download or listen to the songs here: http://www.blankie.net/spcnet/

    Title: Broken Vow
    Artist: Lara Fabian
    Language: English

COMMENTS: I chose this song because of the meaning. Basically, it is about letting someone go even if you have some intimate attachments to them. You let someone go while you suffer as they move on in life. Yeah, tis my mood right now ^_^ Lara Fabian is a very good singer, I can not even compare.

Title: Fan Sau Zhong Yiu Zoi Yue Teen
    Artist: Jacky Cheung
    Language: Cantonese

    COMMENTS:
I always felt bad that my four-voice effort seemed to be a bit outside the spirit in which the acapella division was done, and with four voices it's not surprising that it sounded better than it was. Thank you everyone for your kind words and support, and here I present a song which feels much more right for the competition. It's not as good as my earlier entry, and certainly nowhere near that of the other excellent entries in the acapella division, but it's probably the best I can do, and for some reason I feel very
proud of it! Hope you like it too.

    Title: Carmen
    Artist: Li Yan Ping
    Language: Mandarin

COMMENTS: This song is an old song and has been sung by many singers including, most recently, by Charmaine Sheh in the TVB series 'Glittering Days'. I chose Li Yan Ping's version because that is the version I have in my collection of karaoke VCDs, thus, I'm most familiar with this version. But my version is not an exact replica of Li Yan Ping's version because I need to cut short the song to below 2mins and modify it to be more suitable for a rendition without background music. But the most major difference is of course my rendition is very much inferior to Li Yan Ping's great rendition of the song. But I still hope u guys will like it. ;-) Cheers!!!

    Title: I Believe
    Artist: Fan Yi Chen
    Language: Mandarin

COMMENTS: This song is originally in Korean, and is the theme from the Korean romantic comedy 'My Sassy Girl' (awesome movie BTW). Unfortunately I had to do the Mandarin cover since I can't pronounce the Korean words. Hope I didn't butcher the song too much m(_ _)m

By the way, amazing work, all of you! I think I know who is who (not identities, but based on the preliminary songs they sent), and I see a lotta improvement! You all picked more challenging songs.

so the last time you were pretty dumb?
i dont see how saving your vote will make a difference. its the final round - strategic voting is moot here (unless you really dislike one of the candidates, and vote against them so they will not get the numbers)

Too bad you're not in the final, people would save their votes just to .... for you.

pfttt.. its as much a popularity contest as a singing contest - in the case of popularity, i may get some votes despite sounding like a sick cow! LOL

Wow, Mr. NetDriftr knows how to use antonymns! Too bad he doesn't know that those aren't the only two opposite-pairs in the world! How devastating =(

It's not very hard to match up the voices anyway. Actually I shouldn't talk, I still can't figure out which one was 0-0-0 from last time, but then again, I didn't really try hard enough to bother listening lol.

I must say, 1 & 3 is a hard pick both are really good, especially no.3 because I was listening to the music with my earphones and so many high notes, as a compliment it so lound that I was hoping it almost broke it. This one, I going to save my votes, as compared to the BGM Finals.
