    Default Five Deadly Venoms remake

    Shaw Bros Remakes

Hong Kong-based Celestial Pictures recently announced that two projects to remake Five Deadly Venoms (Wu Du) and Flying Guillotine (Xue Di Zi), produced by Shaw Brothers in the 1970s. Directed by The original Five Deadly Venoms is about a young protégé being ordered by his dying master to eliminate the evil ones among five of his previous protégés, known as the Five Deadly Venoms. Each of the Five Deadly Venoms has a lethal skill learned from a toxic animal. The young protégé has to identify and team up with the good one in order to defeat the other four. The story of the remake will be set in present days and the beautiful but lethal Spider Girl will join the all-male clan, replacing one of the original male characters. It will be written and directed by Kirk Wong (The Big Hit, Jackie Chan’s Crime Story). According to a previous report, Andy Lau may have been onboard as a financier and the cast may include Edison Chen, Maggie Q and Lau himself. Shooting would begin right after the Chinese New Year next spring.

Andy Lau to Remake Chang Cheh's Classic WU DU

Sina.com.cn reports that Hong Kong superstar has planed to finance a remake of WU DU (Five Deadly Venoms / Five Venoms / Pick Your Poison), by late martial-art film director Chang Cheh. The original report claims the cast will include Edison Chen (Dog Bite Dog, Initial D, Infernal Affairs), Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard, Mission: Impossible III) and Lau himself, the film will be shot in English (???) with director Kirk Wong (The Big Hit, Jackie Chan's Crime Story). Released in 1978, the original Wu Du tells that a young kung-fu protege is ordered by his dying master to eliminate the evil ones among five of his previous proteges, known as the Five Venoms. Each of the Five Venoms has a lethal skill learned from a toxic animal. The young protege have to find and team up with the good one among the Five Venoms, to defeat the evil ones. Ok right just then I found out that Andy dropped out. Anyway, what do you guys think about the casting?

Andy no choice to withdraw himself from Five Venom

The cast of the re-make of Chang Cheh's classic Five Venom initially includes Andy Lau, Jay Chou, Edison Chen and several big stars, it's scheduled to start shooting in September.

However when interviewed, director Wong Chi Keung revealed that Andy would be busy shooting 'Xiong Di' thus unable to participate in the shooting, therefore he would have to withdraw himself from the production.

Update on FIVE DEADLY VENOMS Remake

Each of the Five Deadly Venoms has a lethal skill learned from a toxic animal. Story of the remake, by Hong Kong-based Celestial Pictures, will be set in the present days in a fictional city. Director Kirk Wong (The Big Hit, Jackie Chan's Crime Story) says the cast will probably include Jay Chou (Curse of the Golden Flower, Initial D) as the protege and Edison Chen (The Grudge 2, Dog Bite Dog, Initial D), Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard, Mission: Impossible III, Naked Weapon), Huang Xiaoming (The Banquet), Wu Jing (Invisible Target, Sha Po Lang, Drunken Monkey) and Liu Chia-Hui (dozens of Show Bros. classics) as the Five Deadly Venoms. I agree with you. She can be in any movie she wants (though I question her acting talents), I frankly wouldn't care. However, I cannot see how anyone in their right mind cast her in a Chinese period piece. I don't see how they can present her in a realistic character.

On the topic of the Five Venoms, though, it looks like the cast is catered towards teens anyway...Jay, Edison, Maggie?
I doubt the directors were looking for actors/actresses based on their acting credibility.

Edit: I think this movie requires wearing traditional Chinese clothing...so is it a period piece? Wuxia maybe? I've never watched it before so I wouldn't know...
