the most interesting female characters in wuxia are unfortunately not the ones i think are good role models (think Madam Ma, Lin Xian Er etc.)
role model wise, i pick Xiao Zhao, Miao Ruo Lan, Cheng Ying- that kind of sweet girl that is somehow... suppressed within me

One of my role models is in fact a real person, but since he's an ancestor in the Murong family (which is prominently featured in DGSD), I can include him here.
As I understand, the story goes that Murong De, a founding emperor of the Southern Yan empire, once asked his subordinates which historical emperor may be compared to him. One subordinate named Ju Zhong said that he could be compared to 2 named great emperors. Murong De ordered one thousand instances of silk be awarded to Ju Zhong. Startled by such a handsome reward, Ju Zhong said he didn't deserve it. Murong De then said: "You have your way to to play me, and so I have my way to play you. You didn't mean what you said, so I played a joke on you. Did you think the reward was for real?" At this time, General Han Fan said: "The chosen one should not speak of deceiving words. What was said today, both the emperor and the subordinate have committed a mistake."
Upon hearing such a criticism from his subordinate, most emperors (and even today's bosses) would have had this outspoken general removed. But Murong De did the opposite. He was extremely pleased to hear such an honest critique of his action, and in turn awarded a modest and real 50 instances of silk to General Han Fan.
Murong De represents a humble and genuinely conscious leader who strives for excellence. Most importantly, he lets his followers speak their mind and rewards honest opinions rather than empty praises. I think Cheng Ying is a great role model. She's sweet, considerate, caring and has all the qualities you'd want in a friend/love. She's someone that (almost) everyone loves.
