Default 16-year old Gwok Jing vs. 16-year old Gwok Fu

When Gwok Jing was sixteen years old and living in Mongolia, there was little indication that he was destined for martial arts greatness. His teachers, the Gong Nam 7 Freaks, themselves not elite fighters in the world of LOCH (at least not relative to the Greats), didn't have much hope for him to amount to much as a martial artist. It wasn't until Ma Yuk went to Mongolia and began training Gwok Jing in the basics of inner power that Gwok Jing's latent martial arts talent began to emerge.

Gwok Jing's eldest daughter, Gwok Fu, never blossomed as a martial artist at all. She didn't have her father's martial arts talent, although she did (potentially) have access to a huge selection of skills to learn from as a result of her associations.

But if sixteen-year old Gwok Jing were to catapult ahead some two decades in time to fight his sixteen-year old daughter (and they'll have no idea who each other is, so don't worry about family loyalties/holding back), who would win that fight? Was Gwok Fu at sixteen already a better fighter than her father was at sixteen, despite her lack of significant further progress and his later development into a Great?

Hard to say, but if Gwok Seung were better than her elder sister had been, Gwok Seung would not likely have been exponentially so.

GX was said to have talent...her sister inherited GJ's dumbness and HR's lack of determination. thus, GX is probably by far better than her sister.

yes, while GX inherites HR's intelligence and GJ's determination so i imagine GX would have been a lot better.

What about attitude then? If GX was as slack as HR had been back then, it doesn't seems like she will be much better than GF.

GJ's determination which meant she would have learnt her martial arts better than Guo Fu.

talent my dear. a 15 yr old HR seemed more capable than a 16 yr old GF. i would imagine 16 yr old GX is at least as good as her mother?

What about the original topic, people?

As for Gwok Seung vs. Gwok Fu: while it would seem that the younger sister *should* have been a much better fighter than the older sister at the same age, there's no evidence that such was actually the case.

I think Guo Jing would have actually been worse than Guo Fu at 16 years of age. The 7 freaks were pretty bad teachers and GJ was probably even more clueless about his martial arts than GF

That's my impression too. The sixteen year old Gwok Fu, while no martial arts dynamo (and never would be), seemed to at least have the basics down pat. Her father at age sixteen, however, still seemed to be struggling with the basics.

Does that mean then, the 16 year old Wu brothers would have been able to bully around the 16 year old Guo Jing as well?

Guo Fu would win because although Guo Jin at barely learned his master's arts whereas Guo Fu at 16 had the basics of not only some of the Jian Nan arts but also QZ internal energy, which GJ had not recieved at the time

I think so. The Mo Brothers at age sixteen could fight better than most other sixteen year olds. They were just no match for Yeung Gor.

Just want to respond to the 16 year old GX vs 16 year old GF.

A 15 almost 16 year old GX was able to evenly match her 35(?) year old sister at least for a while. Although there was nothing conclusive shown in their exchange, the fact that GF had well over a decade of expirence and training over her sister, yet could not subdue her easily, would seeminly imply that 16 year old GX>GF at the same age. Not entirely surprising considering the fact that GX was a martial arts prodigy while her sister(as well as the Wu brothers) were said to have only normal comprehension.
wow..04-08....4 years just like that..time flies..

All true, but that doesn't mean there was a huge gap between them when they were each sixteen.

Gwok Seung at sixteen looked just as helpless against her family's enemies as her sister did sixteen years earlier against those same enemies.

Guo Jing was an expert wrestler. Even out doing a stronger Ouyang Ke. Guo Jing is quite possibly the greatest athlete in the entire Jin Yong canon.

I'm not surprised. Those enemies were highly-skilled pugilists and were much older than sixteen years old.

Not at age sixteen, however. When Gwok Jing was sixteen, other than his archery expertise, he was struggling to just not trip over his own feet while trying to get the hang of the Gong Nam 7 Freaks' martial arts.

Then he met Ma Yuk, and everything began to change.
