    Great Suet Seung, I'm ready to start whenever you are!!! ♥♥

    Thanks HuangYushi for the links. I am going to visit those sites right now. You're right. Like you said, I don't know what is a website and that's why I feel so lost.

    The other day, my brother gave me a fast tutorial course (10 minutes). He himself is not familiar with Frontpage, but he was able to make me understand something fundamental: you don't build a website like you make a drawing or do scrapbooking. To create a website = you write a text and you use "tags" functions.

    Hi Lysil,

    Sorry for the delay. I've been a little preoccupied and last night I went out to watch a movie with a friend. So now I'm just starting to organize this. I've never written any tutorial or taught anyone before so please excuse any un-professional tutoring okay?

    Just so you know there's this Microsoft Frontpage Training website here (This teaches you how to use Frontpage):
    http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/tr...832701033.aspx

    So here we go...

    Once you open Frontpage this is what you normally see:
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i19.tinypic.com/6frvm7s.jpg')

    Let's see where do we start? I guess with the basics functions.

    At the bottom here, there are four different tabs: design, split, code, preview.
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i19.tinypic.com/4z34088.jpg')

    Design- This is the one you'll spend most of your time in. This is for most newbies and people who don't have time to do their own coding, when you're in Design, you can use the features to do the coding for you.
    Split - When you're in split, this allows you to see both the html codes and design at the same time. As seen below:
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i10.tinypic.com/4tr1vzn.jpg')

    Code - Unlike Design, here you input the html codes. In design, you don't need to know what html codes are.

    Preview - when you click on Preview, this allows you to see how the web page will look like when it is online.

    Next, we have the features and tools you'll use to make a web page. If you're familiar with MS Word, some of the tools here will look very familiar.
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i18.tinypic.com/6f9awqu.png')

    Left to Right 1st row:

    1) The icon that looks like a white piece of paper, you click on that for a new blank page (to create more pages). BTW, you are able to create more than one page at a time.
    2) Next icon Open Folder, Click this to open pages you have saved previously.
    3) Floppy Disk - Click this icon to save the work you've done.
    4)Find and Replace -I never had to use this, but this should be self-explanatory
    5+6) I never had to use these, so I don't know.
    7) Printer - Click this to print.
    8) View in Internet Explorer - Click here to view your page in internet explorer, but first you need to have saved this page or else there will be a prompt asking you to save this page before being able to view it in internet explorer.
    9) ABC with a Check mark - This like the one in MS Word, check's your spelling in the page.
    10)Scissors - You use this to cut, you know like cut and then paste. So you highlight an item or whatever and click on the scissors to cut it out of the page.
    11) Double pieces of paper - You use this to copy something on a page to different page. And more.
    12) Clipboard with a piece of paper - This is the PASTE button. Self-explanatory.
    13) Format Painter - Never had to use this, not sure what it does.
    14) Arrow facing left - Click this to undo your last action.
    15) Arrow facing right - Click this to redo your last action.
    16) Web Component - This gives you a choice of inserting: a Dynamic effect(marquee- words that move, interactive button); a web search - search engine kind of thingy; Spreadsheets and charts; a hit counter- to see how many people visited your website (I'd advise against this); Photo Gallery option which it will make a photo gallery for you, and more.
    17) Table - This inserts a table - Use the mouse to drag and highlight to the amount of rows and columns in a table you want. See picture below - I highlighted a 2 by 2 (row and columns) table and so it will give me a 2X2 table.
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i9.tinypic.com/4ka5iyp.jpg')
    The result you should get will look like this:
    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i7.tinypic.com/5y8sgmu.jpg')

    Now you can readjust the width of the table by taking the mouse and pulling the edge of the table (on the right side) to make it wider or narrower by pulling it outward or inward.
    18) Insert Layer - This is use to make div layer type layouts.
    19) Insert Picture from File - you click this and it will bring up a thing that you can look for a picture on your computer and insert it onto the page, and normally when you have this webpage online on a web host, you need to have uploaded the picture onto the web host too.
    The rest of the features on that row, you need not know because I hardly use it.
    Second row should be easy, if you know MS Word.

    How am I doing so far with this crappy lesson?

    I think it is probably easier to have someone who knows how to use FrontPage and teach you in person because the lazy side of me has already kicked in. And I'd prefer to show you in person too. But alas, you live in a different state.

    Don't, Suet Seung, don't say that your lesson is crappy! Really, it is not! For me, it's obvious that you must have put quite a lot of time into this. Many, many thanks!

    Okie, I have FrontPage 2000. When I open the program, I don't see exactly the same thing as you.

    On the side bar, I can select different "views": page, folders, reports, navigation, hyperlinks, and tasks.

    At the botton, I see 3 tabs: Normal, HTML, and Preview.

    If I understand right, it should be easier for me to work in Design since I don't know how to do the coding yet. And Design for you, it's Normal for me, right? I only have to put pictures and write texts like a usually do in Word, and the coding will be done automatically, right? So it means that my brother was talking nonsense! He told me that I have to add the function tags myself. Ha, ha, stupid brother!

    As for the tools, I have a lot of experience using MS Word, so I know those commands pretty well.

    Alright, I'm going to take some time now to look at the Microsoft FrontPage Training website... Hey, your site seems to be great, there's no overuse of computer terminology and jargon. I still have to finish reading HuangYushi's sites. I hope after that, I will be able to use hyperlinks.

    You're so encouraging, Net. Ha, ha... Well, I don't plan to give up my job anytime soon, so I'm going to stick with this for a while.

    I have another question to all of you: Is that consider copyright infrigement to use pictures/drawings I found on Internet? For example, those I find when I do Yahoo images search? I guess so. In that case, where can I upload images to use for my website? Will I have to take pictures myself with my digital camera?

    If it's a website you found pictures from, contact the webmaster to ask for permission for the usage of those pictures. When in doubt, give proper citing of where you got the images from. Um, Credit Source: Yahoo.com, doesn't always cut it though.

    For your website, I assume you'd have a web host or server of some sort to upload your pictures onto. And then theres always free image hosts you can google and find then upload your pictures and make sure you take that link and put that in the html part <img src="http://www.urlhere.com/image.jpg">

    Taking pictures with your digi-camera is a nice thought too.

    Using pictures that I took myself is a nice thought, but it won't give a nice result.

    Q1: What sort of pictures/drawings/images are you thinking of using?
    Q2: What do you want to use these pictures/drawings/images for?

    These are the 2 most important questions that you have to answer before wondering if you can use the pictures/drawings/images freely from the Internet.

    1. The pics/drawings/images are meant to represent something in my company.
    In this case, it is better for you to snap and use specific photographs (with security clearance, if necessary) of real scenes in your company.

    2. The pics/etc are meant to add some sort of functionality and stylistic design to the website, e.g. buttons, roll-overs, etc.
    For these, there are royalty-free stand-alone (individual) images, image sets (e.g. buttons with different wordings but all in the same colour/style) and whole website templates (i.e. you just plug in the text/content) that you can download from the Internet and use without paying a single cent. Just do a Google search for them.

    3. The pics/etc are meant for decorative purposes.
    Royalty-free pics/etc for decorative purposes are also available for download from the Internet. A tip: A bit of restrain may sometimes be necessary in the use of purely decorative images to avoid the website from looking like the handiwork of an 8-year-old.

    Here's another website to add:
    http://websoup.org/resources/

    It's a good resource for web designers.

    Now if you're not able to create a decent website, may I knock on your blockhead?

    actually i disagree. i think tables easy to use and adapt to screen resolution more easily.

    also, i think dreamweaver is the easiest program to use for website design because it's WYSIWYG unless you want to code everything yourself. I've made websites using notepad, but that was a long time ago. i don't think people use that anymore.

    css stylesheets are really useful, otherwise, you end up having to do things 50 times instead of once.

    Hi,

    My Web site is almost completed. Many thanks to all those who have provide me with the many useful tutorial links.

    But I need help again... I want to recreate something that I saw in this Web site: http://www.jinsungkorea.com/

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i16.tinypic.com/4vevrwh.jpg')

    You see at the right side of the screen shot? There is this rectangle that can move when you scroll down the page. I think this is really cute. Please, is there somebody who can tell me how I can do that with Frontpage??

    use front page + dream weaver and ur own coding it's really easy that way and it gives more option. Lazy though, cuzz after u make a website u have to maintain it, pain in the *** IMO.

    Sorry, I keep annoying you, guys.

    Is there anyone who knows how to make an (interactive?) calendar like this one?

    $this->handle_bbcode_img_match('http://i11.tinypic.com/6fu90z9.jpg')

    Friday is the due date for the Web site, so after that I won't bug you anymore!

    A lot of people told me that I should not have used Frontpage. "Not good for designing Web site, too much coding for no reason", they said.

    If you use Frontpage and it generates those _vti folders for you inside your directories, make you sure you don't upload them to the live website because they are a security risk.

    Im no coder. More on the design side and I use GoLive. I think DreamWeaver(is dreamweaver still around?) or Golive would suit you better as far as design goes.

    For your calendar question, i think the simplist option for you would be to search for free java script codes. There are plenty of free resources out there for anything you can think of.

    just an example: http://www.free-javascripts.com/time/calendar.html

    Another tip, if you are familar with html...you can view source of a webpage(if allowed) and read the coding and it pretty much will give you hints etc. how and what they are using for the page.

    Due to several complaints, I will stop using the terms "Babe" and "Baby" in reference to our female counterpart. They will now be replaced with "B*tch."
