Default Was the feat of "Grabbing Weapon From Opponent" featured in the Trilogy?

In DGSD and Ode to Gallantry, reaching your hand out to grab your (considerably weaker) opponent's weapon was prominently featured. Here are a few instances of such feat:

    却听得叮当、叮当一阵响,那人双手连振,也不知使了什么手法,霎时间竟将安奉日的金刀、雪山弟子的长剑尽数 夺在手中。

The sounds of "ding dang, ding dang" were repeatedly heard by every expert. The experts did not know what method was employed by the opponent, but he had instantly taken control of An Fengri 's golden sabre and the Snow Mountain disciple's long swords into his own hand.

    说着缓步上前,双手伸出,乱抓乱拿,只听得呛啷啷响声不绝,七八柄长剑都已投在地下。

He stepped forward, reached out his hand and started randomly grabbing. The sound of weapon collision was heard repeatedly, and 8 or so long swords had already dropped to the floor.

    说着伸出左手,凌空向单正一抓。单正只觉手腕一震,手中单刀把捏不定,手指一松,单刀竟被乔峰 夺了过去。

He extended his left hand to grab through the air without physical contact. Shan Zheng felt a tremble on his wrist, which forced his finger to release. In that instant his sabre had been deprived by Qiao Feng.

Did the Trilogy feature this feat?

Finally getting back the initiative, Miejue quickly turned her attention towards Zhang Wuji. Despite his amazing inner power, Zhang Wuji hasn’t really learnt any lightness kung fu techniques. So, unlike Wei Yixiao, he could not maintain his speed even whilst carrying a person. Zhang Wuji felt a strong wind from behind, turned around and parried with his saber. ‘Dang’ - the saber broke as it crossed paths with the Heaven Sword. Zhang Wuji quickly threw out the remaining half of the saber at Miejue, hoping to slow her down a bit. This throw utilized ninety percent of his powers, forcing Miejue to lower her head and dodge it. As the saber flew right over her head, Miejue felt a tinge of pain from the accompanying wind, temporarily paralyzing her. Zhang Wuji saw this chance, and quickly stepped up towards her, his palm shot out, and in a fluent motion snatched the Heaven Sword from her hand.

The wrist power involved in this sword-taking method had the backing of the seventh level of Qian Kun Da Nuo Yi. Although her kung fu is high, Miejue still could not block such a powerful and accurate palm move.

    ----------------------------

From their running movements and their hand movements in taking out their weapons, Guo Jing could see that the weakest out of the four appeared to be Yin Kexi. He immediately threw both his palms forwards towards Xiaoxiang Zi. Xiaoxiang Zi extended his rod forward, aiming for Guo Jing’s palm. Guo Jing looked at his weapon and saw white silk twirling around it and there was hemp at one end. Guo Jing saw that Xiaoxiang Zi’s martial arts were high and his weapon strange, he’ll definitely have some strong points about him, so he turned his right arm around and used a stance of “Divine Dragon Sweeping its Tail”, he immediately grabbed Yin Kexi’s golden whip. Yin Kexi wanted to use his whip to attack his opponent but it had already been grabbed. He followed the opponent’s pull and threw his body forward with a glittering dagger in his left hand. This stance was using an attack as a defense and it was the top skill of the “Eighteen Little Grabbing Hand Technique”.

Guo Jing called out; “Good!” He used his grabbing hand technique on him again. His right hand still held onto the whip as he went for his dagger. Guo Jing’s arms were crossed over as his right hand held onto the whip in Yin Kexi’s right hand and his left hand held onto Yin Kexi’s left hand. Yin Kexi was sure that by thrusting his dagger forward, his opponent would have no choice but to let go of his whip and avoid the dagger. Who would have thought that his dagger would also be held?

At this time, Fawang’s wheels and Xiaoxiang Zi’s short rod attacked. Guo Jing did not manage to snatch away the golden dragon whip with his first pull and he shouted out; a surge of great chi went through the whip into Yin Kexi. Yin Kexi felt as if a metal hammer had struck his chest heavily, his eyes saw stars and he threw up a mouthful of blood. Guo Jing let go of the whip and blocked the attacks. Yin Kexi knew that he had suffered a severe injury and he pulled back slowly. He sat down on the ground and circulated his chi through his ‘dan tian’ and held back the urge to vomit more blood.

hmmm...I dont think that it is a difficult feat if the opponent is weaker. YG was able to snatch WYP's weapon away with his teeth, and he even managed to snatch LMC's whisk away as well(partly due to her being suprised). Even LWS used some AT technique to snatch one of her adversaries weapon early on in the novel. Then are probally a bunch of other examples through out the trilogy.

to Patudo: I suppose Those 2 instances could pass for "Grabbing Weapon From Opponent With Bare Hand," although they are a bit different from the later novels. In DGSD and OTG, experts would just extend their hand and the weapons immediately fall out of the opponent's hand, but in the Trilogy, experts have to try different tricks to deprive the weapons. It's performed in a more deftly manner in the later novels. But of course, the circumstances were different, and the Trilogy Greats were arguably fighting more powerful foes.

The "Empty Hands in a Hundred Blades" martial art was employed by various practicioners ranging from the Extremely Strong (like Guo Jing) to the Above Average (IIRC one of YD's disciples used it).

The result, of course, depends on the practicioner and the target.

Just means JY was too lazy to describe as detailed and explicitly on how the practioner took the weapon out of the hands.. not that it was any easier.. more so maybe it just wasn't an important fact.. and that everyone knew who the stronger one was by light years.. that explaining how to take a weapon was a minor point.

No, it wasn't that the description was short of detail. Rather, the details show the feats performed in DGSD and Ode to Gallantry are of a different calibre.

does it feature this? nope, thats the simple answer

As many people will tell you, the time lapse between DGSD and the trilogy many powerful arts where lost, and some gained. I blieve there is a thread on this somewhere.

    RE:PJ

hmm, I dunno... Those scenes you quoted seem pretty similar to when ZWJ disarmed Emei sects disciples one by one and started flinging the swords towards MJST. Also I find disarming someone with your teeth more difficult than simply grabbing the weapon away with your hands.

The last one with QF was sickness though, ill admit that one seemed to be a higher calibre technique.

Just wanted to add(translation courtesy of Foxs)

Both the fisherman and the woodcutter were disciples of a well-known expert; their martial arts were nothing but ordinary. Before Guo Jing’s stance arrived they had hastily withdrew their weapons and leaped back. Suddenly they felt a jerk dampening their backward movement; turned out their weapons were pulled forward by Guo Jing’s palm strength. They had no choice but let their weapons go; saving their own lives was more important.

Guo Jing caught the iron oar and the steel axe, he lightly tossed them back and called out, “Catch these!”
A emulation of XF's feat shown here.

XF was pulling the weapon away from its user without endangering their life, they let go because of XF's powerful internal energy, in this instance, the two let go of their weapons because GJ was going to hurt them with his palms if they did not let go, and they let go by choice... sort of.

To be fair to both sides :

    a)

GJ was still a relative noob at that point (compared to the Greats and 30 yr XF).

Yi Deng's 2 disciples should be arguably better or on par with IMPARTIAL JUDGE.

    There were TWO of them.

    b)

XF's feat was more refined. GJ seemed to yank on the weapons itself with brute force. XF managed to get IMPARTIAL JUDGE to loosen his fingers unconciously while tugging the sabre.

    单正只觉手腕一震,手中单刀把捏不定,手指一松

The pulling of the sabre is not that big a deal by itself. Getting the guy to loosen his grip thru long distance without having to LDA his arse or to forcibly yank the weapon out of his fingers with brute force is the trick.

    Oh crap, I am going to do another XF advert but here goes ;

This is another good point to counter the 'pure brute force warrior' image of XF. He could have just yanked the sabre with brute force like GJ did but he chose to do it the more refined way.
Its BIxie Jianfa Gawdammit you guys!!!!

Xiaoxiang Zi sneered, “Impolite? How? I want to see it!” He stretched out his long arms and snatched Song Defang and Wang Zhitan’s swords. Zhao Zhijing immediately jumped up and executed the “White Clouds Exiting the Cave” to defend his back and then he stood next to the envoy. Xiaoxiang Zi handed him one of the swords and slashed the other sword towards Li Zhichang. Li Zhichang raised his sword to parry but his hand became numb when his sword hit the other sword. He tried to use his internal strength to resist the sword but the two swords snapped.

Xiaoxiang Zi’s strokes in snatching and deflecting swords were extremely fast and in the blink of an eye he raised his hands and threw out his palms, disarming four senior Quanzhen disciples. He carried out three strokes continuously and defeated seven Quanzhen experts. The several hundred people in the hall were shocked; they did not expect this zombie-faced man to be so highly-skilled.

    @freakonboard

That would be when the swords fell from their hands and he snatched the swords up, not pulling it into his hands
