i find this How-To useful for what you need. just keep in mind that some avi files will not convert due to the way they were captured, recorded or converted.

I use replay converter to convert and it always work for my iPod.And I convert like very big avi files(full length movies) and it works beautifully Make sure that the frame size does not exceed 640X480 and frame rate does not exceed 30fps or iPod won't be able to play.

I don't have an ipod, but for converting video files in general I use virtualdubmod sometimes with a combination of avisynth when converting rmvb files. It converts to mp4 so I guess it would work for ipods too then.

did you get the error during the file format conversion (eg avi -> mp4) ?

a movie atom is an Apple Quicktime term to describe the movie header information. so this error means the movie file is corrupted.

if you are getting this error when playing the file on the ipod, try playing the movie in another player like VLC (http://www.videolan.org/vlc/). This player isn't as strict when playing corrupted movie files.

i don't know what format ipod use, but ALL avi is convertable, anything you can watch you can covert, it's digital data man, all it is is unpack n pack it back.

agreed. as long you have the codecs to decode/encode you can convert avi files to any format you want.

my comment referred to avi files that might be corrupted..which i suspect is the case why anna cannot convert this particular avi file to mp4.

lol. yea i hated it at first but i realized i was missing a codex.
is its possible that all of my files are corrupt, because none of them work (well just one)
ipod uses .mp4 or .mov file which apple products all use.

avi files are the best, they are so small, 1 regular DVD fit about 10 hours of decent AVI (and i'm talking decent even when u blow it up to 32-42" screen, and still doesn't see pixel). so it's much better than DVD. H264 format is even better. too bad it's not legal mainstream like DVD. most if not all of my stuff is in AVI.

i usually use FFshow codec pack, or you can download VLC media player, it plays everything without codec (it decode frame by frame, take a toll on the CPU but it'll play everything)

I was going to make another thread about a similar topic but I'll ask here instead. How would I convert .ogm video files into .avi video files?
