While you're at it... might as well promote the whole SPCNET

Moin, Yang Guo,
Will be done! Thank You, Moin!

Moin, I dreamed last night that you have posted chapter 8 of LXF.
So, please make my dream come true.

When GL wrote "Lu Xiao Feng," LXF is the main character and all, but personally, I think that GL meant XiMen ChuiXue to be like the pure, prince-of-your-dreams guy. While LXF is the ladies man, XMCX somehow seems to have a deeper impact on readers. I'm really having trouble trying to get my point across, but basically, when I read the book, XMCX stuck in my mind, while LXF was more like ... meh. So, I'm trying to figure out, if GL did that intentinally, like do other people have the same feeling as I do, or is it just me?
P.S. Maybe it's because XMCX is my favourite character.

I dunno, XMCX never really "did" anything for me. I mean, his killing sword aura and ability made him really cool, but his callousness and obssession with the sword really put me off.
LXF, on the other hand, has obvious flaws and he's in some really comical bits in the books. Still, Hua Mun Lau is my favorite char, and not LXF, but then Hua Mun Lau sort of disappears off the radar after the first book.
I think the reason LXF doesn't stand out that much is become he has such cool friends that in many ways could overshadow his importance. At times, LXF seems to play a secondary role to his 'supporting' cast even though the series of stories are titled by his name. For one, all his friends have cooler names than him, that would piss me off already if I was him. compare him to another GL's man of mystery CLH, who doesn't have to share the spotlight with anybody, it might be fairly easy to guess who has a bigger fan following.
(Moin, there's a later book concentrated on Hua Man Lou right?)
It means you got eyes like apostrophes, you dress white, talk black, and drive Jew. So how am I supposed to know what kind of zipperhead dog-munching dink you are if you don't?
Hua MunLau returns in Book 6: Phoenix Dancing in the Ninth Heaven.
so that's the one. while I was surfing one day, I came across something that says there's a book titled "Jian Qi Man Tian Hua Man Lou" but I couldn't find that title on any of the sites, so I figured it must have been renamed to something else. "Feng Wu Niu Tian" might be it then. interesting how the title turned from about HML into about LXF.Originally posted by TigerWong

There was no book concentrating on Hua Man Lou to my knowledge. However, he does return to serve a prominent role in Book 5: Phantom Mansion. In that story, he was crucial in the first and last chapters in explaning and setting up the story.

Phoenix Dancing In Ninth Heaven did not focus on Fa ManLou, he just makes an appearance in it. The main character is still Lu XiaoFeng running like a mouse from Gong Jiu.
I personally didn't really like the last four LXF books, because they were so crowded, too many characters, just too much stuff going on.
My personal favourite was the third book "Before And After The Duel."

My love and my agony.
Okay, I'm confused. If I go by the 70s TVB LXF production, the first three books are:
1. Golden Roc Treasure Mystery
2. Before and After the Duel
3. Mou Dong Battle (Phantom Mansion?)
Okay, so TVB declined to produce Embroidery Thief (unless they did this in Return of LXF ('83? but let's ignore this since I haven't seen it and can't rent it--local UEE doesn't have it anymore, damn them). So the list should look like:
1. Golden Roc Treasure Mystery
2. Embroidery Thief
3. Before and After the Duel
4. Mou Dong Battle (Phantom Mansion?)
But Moin is saying Phantom Mansion is book 5... does this mean there's another book after Before and After the Duel? And does this mean you're not going to translate Phantom Mansion, Moin, since you said that you're only translating the first 3 books? I'm begging you to translate the first and last chapters of book 5, if so.
Never go by what TVB says. That being said, you should try to check out LXF '83, I thought it was pretty entertaining.
The books are:
1. The Legend of Lu XiaoFeng (The Golden Roc Adventure)
2. The Embroidery Thief
3. Before and After the Duel
4. The Silver Hook Casino
5. Phantom Manor (Mou Dong Battle)
6. Phoenix Dancing in the Ninth Heaven
7. The Sword God's Smile
LXF '83 has elements from Books 2 and 6.

I tried! I really wanted to watch LXF '83 after I saw the clip of the opening someone here put on their website. I couldn't get the theme song out of my head for days. So I went to my local UEE (they distribute TVB's stuff here in NYC and possibly elsewhere in the US). I even plunked down a deposit of 50 bucks. AND THEN THEY TELL ME THEY DON'T HAVE IT ANYMORE. Ahem.
So, if you can tell me where I can get LXF '83 (preferably on VCD/DVD), I will be in your debt forevah.
AHHHHHHHHHH! I went to Chinatown yesterday and guess what I found?! The Lu Xiao Feng series with Damian Lau! You don't know how happy I was, 'cause people told me you can't buy that version anymore!
Yah! HeHe.

I don't think it's out on VCD yet, but hopefully it will be released soon. I do have the tapes at my parents' but they live halfway across the country. I guess you'll just have to wait for the VCD release or try digging around in some of those smaller shops in Chinatown. I'm actually surprised that someone wouldn't have it as NYC has a pretty big Chinatown.Originally posted by kraal
